Thought as such, cheers for the info mate ?

Any idea what we're offering? I suspect they want our second rounder while we wouldn't want to give more than a 3rd? Or is it haggling over how much of the contract each club will pay?

Viney Signs Until 2025
Now that he has signed for 5 years we can trade him for a better return

Happy.

Disappointing, would have been brilliant for us on off the backline. I do wonder if Carlton are leaving themselves open for a raid of their younger talent with the amount they are spending on flankers.

Rivers Extends Contract
I've got a suspicion this kid will go through the middle at some stage of his career and star in that role. Kids a gun.

Farewell Braydon Preuss
Can't remember which article but they mentioned GWS have doubts about his endurance and ability to cover the ground. Reads to me that they're trying to downplay his trade value. With Hately requesting a trade to the Crows today, I can't see them willingly including Caldwell or O'Halloran in any form of trade. We should be pushing for a second round pick in my opinion.

Is it worth talking about Parfitt? Doubtful that he will leave Geelong but still remains unsigned. Would add a point of difference to our midfield with his speed and would do so relatively cheaply.

Oliver Rumours on Footy Classified
Allegedly Goodwin thinks we're in a position to seriously contend for a flag so there is no way he trades out his best midfielder while in contract. And there is close to nothing I would accept for him either and hopefully the club views him the same. One of the few "untradeables" on our list. To even get our attention they would need to put up Walsh, a top 3 pick and more. Not happening.

Apart Petracca pre-covid and Pickett extending his base "rookie" contract I don't believe anyone else has re-signed throughout the year. Wouldn't surprise me if we await details from the AFL and AFLPA about list sizes and salary cap before making major re-signing announcements. Would love to get a contract in front of Rivers, Jackson, Petty, Fritsch, Sparrow and others but that's for another thread.

Is it an automatic strike under the AFL's drug policy?

Farewell Braydon Preuss
Preuss is a 25yr old ready-to-go first string ruckman with multiple clubs interested and two years to go on his contract. Clubs want him, they'll have to pay up and make it appealing to us. If we want to become more ruthless as Goodwin said, then it can start at trade week.

Think it won't affect him getting another home but hopefully it reduces his new contract offer so crows get pick 20 instead of pick 2 as compensation.

Farewell Braydon Preuss
Preuss + 47 for pick 22 would be a decent result.

The Zac Merrett Thread
Interesting idea, Saints could use another heavy hitter in the middle. I wonder if there is a talent in the mid to late first round of the draft that would see us happy to offload Brayshaw for a pick. Fair points from both of you. Particularly agree with the bolded xman. The good thing in our position is we have Brayshaw contracted for another two years so it would have to be a good deal in our eyes to let him go. Ultimately I don't think we'll land Merrett and the speculation consistently, like Hogan, seems to be Freo as the likely suitor. Haven't picked over their list in a while so not sure what could be on offer there. Personally I'd prefer to secure a mature guaranteed best 22 player but trades rarely involve player for player swaps.

The Zac Merrett Thread
I doubt it, with what Brayshaw has produced over the last 2 years we won't be getting a first rounder for him. His value currently probably lies in the second round in my view. Late first round at best. If Brayshaw = 2nd round pick then I can't see Essendon doing a deal for "2" X second rounders for Merrett, arguably their best player. Would you take say a Parish and 2nd rounder for either Oliver or Petracca? Despite all his potential and being played out of position, a club that identifies that isn't going to pay a premium for someone that they would argue can't crack centre bounce midfield time for our team. Our whip hands is that he is contracted for another 2 years so we won't be giving him away, but we always take a holistic approach to drafting and trading and a mutually beneficial outcome might see a deal done if it improves the balance of our team. Just my thoughts anyway.

The Zac Merrett Thread
Probably, hence the line "perhaps with later pick swaps." There could be a few permutations of a deal but say Brayshaw + Future first for Merrett and Future 2nd. Depending on ladder position could just mean sliding back in the draft by 10 spots or so.

Farewell Braydon Preuss
I believe both Sydney and GWS have academy players this year which will require a certain amount of draft points. Can't see either of them giving up second or even third rounders, at least not in this years draft. If he goes north then future picks or fringe player is probably what the deal would be.

The Zac Merrett Thread
Would Brayshaw + future 1st for Merrett work? Perhaps with later pick swaps. I'm hesitant about losing Brayshaw but as others have already touched on Merrett would complement our mids better and would perform more consistently I feel. Can't see Essendon giving him up to be honest but a big bodied mid + first rounder might get them thinking.

Jack Viney Restricted Free Agent
Perhaps I'm wrong but I can't remember a single time a contract announcement has been done during the BnF. Doesn't seem like the appropriate forum to me, particularly with some players already shown the door and others most likely knowing they're up for trade. To me it doesn't seem very tactful.

Posted something similar a little while ago. I think the idea has merit.

The 2020 Trade Period
I'm curious as to how we will approach player movement this offseason. We traded out of this years first round due to the compromised nature of it so I feel we will try to recruit players via trade and/or free agency. If we trade out both McDonalds as mooted, I can't imagine we will be keen on acquiring picks unless its used for players or possible investment in future picks. On the flip side to this, would Taylor and co feel confident in landing quality players at later picks given the reduced exposure may leave "round 1 quality" kids to slide? And if so, could that lead to small pick upgrades with clubs looking to trade down to accrue points? Factor in a possibly reduction in list sizes and, salary cap restraints and the number of academy/NGA selections, I think we may be presented with some unique opportunities.

Delistings
Surprised that you've put Jordon in here mate, do you have some insight into this one? From memory you know him or his family and last I heard the club were happy with his progress. I would like to see him get at least another year to have a proper run at it in a somewhat "normal" season. That way he can actually get a chance to develop in a proper second tier system if he's not getting senior games.
