Pert and Roffey - The Review Thread
Tigers & Cats both had extensive reviews* and success followed soon after. Actually, the following year (2006/2007 & 2016/2017) At the time, both Thompson & Hardwick were under a lot of pressure but were kept on *Geelong's was an external review as was Richmond's

NON-MFC: Finals Week 01
Sydney Showgrounds Stadium (ENGIE Stadium) What's ENGIE? (rhetorical question as I really don't care) Capacity 23,500 Which begs the question, isn't there an obsession with maximising crowds? And doesn't Cat Park (Kardinia Park) hold 40,000?
-
NFL
@Gorgoroth What's the go with the Rams? The bookies have got them as long shots to be the Super Bowl winner (35-1) Yet the Rams are roundabout even money to make the Playoffs (5-4)

I didn't have high expectations this season mainly because I reckon Love needs more time to improve. 4-10 weeks out with the small amount of info available The back-up 'Malik Willis' was formerly the QB at the Titans and only arrived 2 weeks ago so he's got it all before him
-
NFL
Apparently Love was walking unassisted so might be ligament damage only. But that can be 6-8 weeks if it's major damage. Worse case scenario is a leg break near the ankle but I'm not sure he could walk around at all if it was that bad Eagles too good even though the scores were close. It felt like they were in control of the game for the most part with the difference being Barkley?

Only audio my end but apparently the players are slipping all over the place

NON-MFC: Finals Week 01
Sure but JHF was one of their best player last night in my view But did one Port player beat his opposite number? They are a Jekyll & Hyde team so if Port are allowed to play on their own terms, they'll beat the Dogs or Hawks But it is a big if
-
NON-MFC: Finals Week 01
Yep but I thought JHF at least gave it his all. His teammates were AWOL He's an easy head to kick but he wasn't the problem

NFL
Haven't seen this guy for a while but Jon Gruden is always good value

It truly is a game of inches. Only audio my end, but maybe just one inch in it!! Ravens have got a tough 4 weeks coming too so Jackson missing Flowers could turn out to be costly

NON-MFC: Finals Week 01
Is that the worst choke in a QF by a team that has finished 2nd on the ladder? On their home ground as well They didn't want to know about it but the other Port might turn up next week Hinkley will cop his fair share of the blame but what about his players? 2nd to the ball all night and they refused to play in front

8 starters in the tipping comp (so far) but there are sure to be at least a few more Remembering that we're now awarding 1 point for getting 2 out 3 correct. So, we may well get a number of weeks where many participants receive at least 1 point Picking 3 from 3 will still remain a difficult assignment so the bonus point will come into play on occasions Bonus rounds are weeks 5, 9, 13, 17 & 18 In those weeks we all play for 6 points (with a bonus point on offer) Can't wait for the games to start to be honest Not sure I'm going to enjoy watching the AFL Finals with the Demon's absence

The Soccer thread
For those without cable SBS HD are broadcasting 2 World Cup qualifiers this weekend (live) Friday 9.50am Argentina vs Chile Saturday 10.50am Brazil vs Ecuador These games are always played in front of full stadiums, full of atmosphere and lots of noise Argentina currently top the table (10 teams) but Brazil are surprisingly in 6th position Although, to be fair, only 6 matches have been played out of the 18 to be played (each team)

A Day at the Races
The time honoured G1 Moir Stakes to run this Saturday - The Dash for Cash! The older horses vs the 3yo's A decent betting race so the exotics could produce a nice dividend (More so the Trifecta or F4) Moir Stakes 2024 Field 1000m Race at Moonee Valley Racecourse Race Time: 4:50 pm September 7, 2024 1. I Wish I Win (5) J: Luke Nolen T: Peter G Moody & Katherine Coleman W: 58.5kg Best Odds: $4.50 Rating: Bet Now COMMENT: I remember last year, Peter Moody said about I Wish I Win that when he resumed in the Memsie, he didn’t need to be wound right up for it given it was 1400m and that there was petrol in the tank. 12 months, here he is resuming at 1000m and I reckon he’s wound right up. His jumpout work has been strong and last time he was at the 1000m, his run in the Lightning was incredible. If he handles the track and is within range, look out. 2. Mornington Glory (5) J: Ethan Brown T: Gavin Bedggood W: 58.5kg Best Odds: $17 Rating: Bet Now COMMENT: Mornington Glory has been a revelation the last 6-12 months and is clearly liking The Valley so he has earned a crack. Lot to like about his Carlyon won two weeks back, sitting off speed, making a sustained run and was strong to the line in winning. I say no, he can’t win, but maps to do no work and is a must for exotics. 3. Johnny Rocker (3) J: Mark Zahra T: Nick Ryan W: 58.5kg Best Odds: $17 Rating: Bet Now COMMENT: Fascinating runner. I don’t think he is sharp enough for 1000m but I think from the gate, he does no work and will be strong late. Not sure he has the quality to win but he can run top four without surprising. 4. Caballus (9) J: Joshua Parr T: Bjorn Baker W: 58.5kg Best Odds: $15 Rating: Bet Now COMMENT: Potentially, a kind map for him getting outside Estriella, but I just don’t think he’s good enough. He has real flaws in his form IMO and this is different gravy. But, I have said this about a Bjorn Baker sprinter previously and I’ve been burned. But, I don’t think he can threaten. Should be the rank outsider. 5. Chain Of Lightning (4) J: Damian Lane T: Peter G Moody & Katherine Coleman W: 56.5kg Best Odds: $13 Rating: Bet Now COMMENT: Quality mare when right but is she sharp enough for 1000m? Moved well to win a recent jumpout at Pakenham and does race very well on the fresh side. There is forecast for rain Thursday and Friday, so whether that impacts the track, not sure, but she maps ideally. Slight overs IMO. 6. Estriella (8) J: Blake Shinn T: Ciaron Maher W: TBC Best Odds: $3.00 Rating: Bet Now COMMENT: Estriella looks to be absolutely humming for Ciaron Maher. Most of these runners are here to make a statement for The Everest and she is probably leading the line for that given what she did in the Autumn where she looked like a jet before an end of prep run in the Sangster. Her trial/jumpout work has been electric, has been set for the race…very hard to beat. 7. Coleman (6) J: Kerrin McEvoy T: Matt Laurie W: 56.5kg Best Odds: $8.00 Rating: Bet Now COMMENT: Better run in transit and he is probably a Golden Slipper winner. But I have thought his jumpout/trial work this time in has been really poor and hasn’t screamed out of a horse who can win a 1000m Group l fresh. If he wins, too good, but for mine, he’s got none. Not sure he has come up. 8. Lady Of Camelot (2) J: Zac Lloyd (a) T: Gai Waterhouse & Adrian Bott W: 50kg Best Odds: $5.00 Rating: Bet Now COMMENT: Can’t deny her winning claims with the weight, the map and the intent from the trials. Slipper winner that looks prepped right up to run a beauty and the set up just looks perfect for her. Maps to stalk Estriella, Caballus drops off and she gets her chance. Hard to beat…but for mine, is too short. 9. Hayasugi (7) J: Ms Jamie Kah T: Clinton McDonald W: 50kg Best Odds: $11 Rating: Bet Now COMMENT: I can see her being very dangerous. Blue Diamond winner that does need to step up to the plate but gee her trial/jumpout work has been sizzling. Loved her jumpout and then her trial behind Pharari last week was very good. The only knock is can she give them a start and a beating? You’ve got 50kg on her back and a decent price to find out.

The issue with Rodgers is that at his age, he'll need to be protected (Brady/Belichick style) So how is your offensive line looking? And the Jets can't expect to be getting an in-his-prime Rodgers, more so a QB who can hit targets in a more conservative way It can't be all on Rodgers so you'll need a strong running game to complement the passing game Do that and you're more than half-way to the playoffs. Needless to say, you'll need a decent defence as well Exciting times though, as Rodgers on his best days is fantastic to watch. How many best days does he have in him? Maybe 6-8? That's the key

Well, the bookies have the 49ers as 2nd favourite (5-1) to win it all What do they say about the oddsmakers in Vegas, they never lose? haha 4-1 Chiefs 5-1 San Francisco* 9-1 Baltimore 11-1 Eagles*, Detroit 12-1 Cincinatti 15-1 Buffalo, Houston, Green Bay* 20-1 Dallas*, J.E.T.S* Others ... 30-1 LA Rams*, Atlanta* 35-1 Chicago* 50-1 Jacksonville* Of the above, I reckon the Packers, J.E.T.S, Detroit, Cinci, Houston & the 49ers are 'unders' Overs? Rams, Bears, Dallas and maybe even the Chiefs *Teams that have a following on this thread

Brett Favre lit the place up in 2008 with an 8 and 3 start before things went South So it will be interesting to see how Rodgers goes. Like Favre, Rodgers is a gunslinger so all eyes will be on Aaron Much will depend on your offensive line and the ability of your wide receivers (tight end?) Previously, Rodgers made a few WR's so you never know - NFL
