The real issue are the lack of preventative measures (international flights allowed & shoddy quarantine conditions) Cause & effect but the concentration is on the A-end of the problem. Lockdowns It's like umpiring in footy ... the game is now near impossible to adjudicate and we set up the umpires to fail. We then blame the umpires for not doing their job properly A toxic environment results Agreed (in part) Vaccinations should be the absolute focus ... a huge advertising campaign should be undertaken. Get any number of high profile people telling us to get the jab But in the meantime the immediate aim is to stop the spread of the disease. Lockdowns are necessary as a result of poor governance. Otherwise we could end up like the UK or the USA. Not so much India as they have their unique issues I feel for those who are deeply effected by these lockdowns but what choice do we have?
  2. Macca replied to Demonland's post in a topic in Melbourne Demons
It's not rocket science ... whilst we're having these outbreaks of the disease we either have lockdowns or the disease will quickly get out of control We could end up like the large majority of countries around the world ... very quickly. Hospitals crammed full of patients on ventilators, tens of thousands contracting the disease and numerous deaths Who wants that? Now I know that looks like the words of a politician or a health expert but the evaluation is based on common sense and logic. And we have a super-large sample size as evidence (the rest of the world) Preventative measures such as limiting overseas flights or much stricter quarantine conditions should be in operation but that is not happening (it should do but that's your clueless politicians on both sides of politics at work) None of us can accurately predict the future with regards to new cases of Covid but the Government in Victoria is not going to lift the lockdown conditions unless a target number is met for a certain length of time (zero?) In the meantime, the footy goes on with crowds elsewhere (out of Victoria) With many countries, sport has been played in front of empty stands for over 12 months We've actually been quite lucky Ironically, the AFL have been on the front foot with regards to their own lockdown measures ... ahead of the Vic Govt. in fact

As is the case with many threads here but this one in particular ... too much whinging and not enough analysis. The woe-is-me crowd abounds Mirrors the game day threads My analysis probably stands out to the feeble-minded as I'm one of the few here making any sort of attempt And I'm certainly no expert, my thoughts are only opinions, not facts And I don't see you offering up anything other than taking people to task for stuff that you don't particularly like Keep sniping away dc ... I suppose you have to be good at something
  4. Macca replied to Demonland's post in a topic in Melbourne Demons
No that's not it It's the amount of whinging that goes on about the lockdown and those who don't take Covid seriously enough You want good news don't open up this thread but if you do take a look, expect people like me to post in the way I do And then don't make smart alec remarks as your only way of adding to the conversation Try posting up something intelligent for once Have you got anything to say about Covid or do you prefer to cross your fingers, close your eyes and wish it all away Good luck with that
  5. Macca replied to Demonland's post in a topic in Melbourne Demons
You're private little world has been interrupted by a very deadly disease. Take it seriously So stop complaining about it and get on with it. It's not going away in a hurry so face up to some realities As previously stated, be grateful that you've got footy in any capacity
  6. Macca replied to Demonland's post in a topic in Melbourne Demons
Yeah but you're hard to please anyway, lets face it. If I had have just had a big moan about Covid would that have made you happy? At your age you should have learnt how to shut out the stuff you don't care for. Use the ignore feature or skim past My posts aren't aimed at people like you anyway, you're too far gone. I can't remember a time when you offered up anything of any substance. Just peurile attempts at humour (and you're not funny) Reality is that my projected outcome over the next few weeks should be looked at as a positive As previously stated, Covid could be spread Australia wide and if that happens you may not get much footy at all So don't be an ingrate
  7. Macca replied to Demonland's post in a topic in Melbourne Demons
This 'delta' variant of Covid has changed things again. Highly contageous and the tracing of that strain and the other strains has gone skew-whiff as well Until they get on top of the shoddy quarantine conditions we can expect more of the same anyway. Another outbreak is right around the corner even if we hit zero cases But we'll need to get to zero cases and maintain zero for 3 or 4 days (at least) in order to come out of lockdown in my view Fingers crossed we get on top of it all but the overseas models tell us that countries who come out of lockdown too early end up going back into lockdown as the numbers explode again As for the footy crowds in Victoria ... the numbers were already down and I'm reckoning that the numbers would fall even further with people not wanting to take their chances on contracting the disease It could be worse ... shortened games, shortened season, no crowds at all. This time around the teams may not have to hub and with a number of States the teams from Victoria can fly in and fly out. And play in front of crowds of some description

The Frankel filly (Argentia) was most impressive though Gorg. A real blackbooker and will relish greater distances you'd imagine Invincible Caviar got beaten by a good one Had a return to form today ... got 4 wins and 3 x 2nds at Eagle Form doing my own form only. Didn't even look at any of the tipsters choices. Charleise, Nudge & Duais stood out and they all saluted! And in the end went with a few of Gators picks at Rosehill and got a couple of value winners there as well

Have you ever heard them utter one word about the benefits of being the away team at the QB clash? Or any blockbuster at the MCG as the away team? Very coy, crickets in fact Good luck to them for being so enterprising but when they cry poor it's a ruse
  10. Macca replied to Demonland's post in a topic in Melbourne Demons
That might work but it shouldn't be forgotten that Collingwood make a lot of money as the away team at QB clash They have that whole Ponsford stand that caters for their 15-20 thousand premium members. Pouring rights, food, merchandise sales etc etc are probably in their favour as well As the away team what do we make? At a guess I'd say SFA We owe the filth nothing
  11. Macca replied to Demonland's post in a topic in Melbourne Demons
You've taken me a bit too literally with regards the handshake deal on the QB clash. The chances are that there are drawn up contracts If so, then we can be expecting $1Million plus from the deal. Are we going to get anywhere near that sort of money if the game is played elsewhere? I doubt it but you never know
  12. Macca replied to Demonland's post in a topic in Melbourne Demons
Yeah but how much are we going to make? If it's an amount way less than what we could have been expecting with the game at the MCG, I'd be playing hard ball For once, we are in a position of strength Meanwhile, Collingwoid are in disarray. And the handshake deal with regards to the QB clash needs to be fair to both clubs
  13. Macca replied to Demonland's post in a topic in Melbourne Demons
The club needs to be aggressive on at least 2 fronts ... the winning of games is a priority But the loss of 2 big revenue games could be replaced with 4 others. Make a profit from the situation. Strike while the iron is hot (10 & 1 gives us leverage) As you suggested the GWS game could be played in the NT:this year but we could have 2 NT games (Alice Springs only) next year ... 1.6 mil instead of $800k (Against low drawing interstate teams of course) Plus 2 more blockbusters next year ... both Friday night FTA vs Cats & Bombers And the QB clash next year needs to be our home home game again

Got 18-1 the double ... race to race too which has a bit of tradition to it The card up at Eagle Farm is very good but there isn't a race at Rosehill that appeals. It's like a Wednesday meeting standard wise Flemington looks half-decent with a few Vobis races. Got a few value tips from James Jordan for Morphettville on Saturday ('Get On - S.A' on the racing channel)

Were they touted as 2 of the stranger-to-stranger positive tests that had the authorities baffled? So are we now down to all the positive tests being linked? All in isolation now? I suppose we can see it as some sort of good news but these false positives and others testing positive later than predicted does make things quite confusing I reckon they'll take the safe route and we'll continue in lockdown through to midnight next Thursday. If we hit zero in the meantime well & good As for the financial hit (NT game & QB clash) the AFL will hopefully come to the party and help out with favourable fixturing down the track ... Pert needs to try his best to at least even the score But if we keep winning like we've been doing next year could be a bumper year in terms of revenue anyway As for now, beat the Lions tomorrow night and we'll keep getting FTA exposure for all concerned (that includes existing sponsors & future sponsor opportunities)

The Victorian, SA, WA & Federal Govts have all stuffed up in various ways. The other States (with potential outbreaks on the horizon) are accidents waiting to happen due to shoddy quarantine set-ups Especially with those returning from overseas ... sooner or later, another person will slip through the net The latest being a person in WA who caught the disease whilst residing in quarantine right next door to someone who has the disease This, just 2 weeks after the same thing happening in SA
  17. Macca replied to Demonland's post in a topic in Melbourne Demons
Yes there is a lot of conflicting info being released. Way back we were told to wear gloves and not to worry about masks (by health authorities no less) Yet at the same time we were being told that Covid was an airborne disease. The quarantine period should be a month (at least) for those who have the disease whilst those in quarantine isolation shouldn't be placed anywhere near those who have contracted the disease. Where's the common sense & logic? So we're now in lockdown because a person in quarantine isolation (in S.A) caught the disease whilst residing right next door to someone who did have the disease (for 2 weeks) Released without testing positive that person later on did test positive. The same thing happened to a person in Perth yesterday Amateur hour at work. The authorities and various governments on either side of politics right across the board are quite clueless Difficult to have a positive attitude when there are so many obvious mistakes being made (ongoing)

The Laddies boost is $1 on anything $5 or more Once hitting $11 the boost is $2 (or more) But under $5 the boost is negligible ... 4.20 to 4.60 etc etc. I used to be able to get a $1.50 boost on anything from 4.50 to 8.50 but they've downgraded me (B☆¿$#%&'s!!) So Invincible Caviar is showing $6 but you can get $7 with a boost. Suits my value (or each-way) betting I'm surprised it's not 4.00 or less (just for the hype)
  19. Macca replied to Toorak's post in a topic in Other Sports
And the big watch will be on Invincible Caviar in the R4 2yo event Gorg For those not familiar, the dam side of Invincible Caviar is none other than 'Black Caviar' whilst the sire is 'I am Invincible' Thrashed a stablemate in a jump out and trained by Peter Moody $7 for the win can be had and I've backed it for the prime reason that if it does win, I was on it first time! Don't want to miss out!

That's astonishing Having people who haven't got the disease live in an adjacent room to people that do have the disease (for 2 weeks) sums it all up Everything else that flows on from that poorly thought out arrangement just makes the issue worse There's a way to do it but it means commandeering various building and paying staff an appropriate amount to stay full time on these premises (wearing full PPE gear) And don't have those in isolation stay in the same building as those who have the disease Draconian measures with much stricter rules than we have in jails ... but stop the international flights except for essential services
  22. Macca replied to Demonland's post in a topic in Melbourne Demons
Doors opening & closing, hallways occupied by all & sundry, all breathing the same air in through the ducts & air vents. The covid particles floating about every which way The Staff coming & going at the workplace, back home and into the community What could possibly go wrong? All this with the bureaucrats running the show when they couldn't run a bloody chook raffle
  23. Macca replied to Demonland's post in a topic in Melbourne Demons
Re international flights coming into our country and in response to your post ... Yes, particularly for countries such as the USA, the UK & India where not only has the disease often been out of control, but there is a lot of international travel between Australia and those countries So one slips through the net because of the shoddy Quarantine hotel operation. An accident waiting to happen but all our so-called leaders on both sides of politics are to blame I stopped taking sides decades ago Gonzo ... they are all incompetent in my view I'd like to be more optimistic but taking up that stance can often lead to greater disappointment
  24. I agree as well We're 10 & 1 so there's a bit of a buffer there anyway but, are we even concerned about losing games any more? The team is playing top level footy and after that Friday night success against the Doggies, I'm convinced that we can beat any team anywhere ... even on their own dung heap Do the deal for the financials if we have to play elsewhere and then ... Bring 'em on!

The 7 days is up midnight Thursday but what if we get 6-8 positive cases on Thursday? The lockdown would continue on if that were to occur, probably for another 5-7 days. My realistic view is 2-4 weeks of lockdown ... but we've been lucky so far in terms of avoiding big numbers contracting this damn disease. Bloody lucky in fact People should not be underestimating this particular strain of the virus. It's the Indian varient and highly contageous We will do very well to reel it back in ... but if the government doesn't get its act together with the quarantine hotels, it could easily rear its ugly head again. More than twice over If it was me I'd be stopping all international flights (that aren't essential) until at least the whole country is vaccinated The cost becomes much greater every time we have a lockdown Major Cost vs Major Cost ... take the lesser cost Re the footy ... whilst we're in lockdown in Victoria play the games where the crowds can attend but the AFL then has to make sure all the clubs are compensated adequately and fairly (that compensation might have to extend into 2022) We won't be the only Victorian team losing revenue but a big part of that revenue can be recompensed down the track Just like last season, the TV ratings could go through the roof but the broadcasters will want crowd involvement. Keep them happy and the dollars will roll in
