Who Will Be Our Next Coach?

I sympathise with Buckley. I got a divorce once. Killed me financially. Had to liquidate my St. James Glen Iris Cricket Club memorabilia and all. She got 50%. So down to my last $7.85M. [Oh, and I had to rollover my Rangy lease for an additional 12-months.]

Who Will Be Our Next Coach?

All I can say is thank goodness Triple Chins and Chairman Gef were never involved with us. Melbourne’s recent history may be tinged with incompetence, but at least it has mostly been dignified. We’ve generally worked within the rule of law, behaved like good citizens, and carried ourselves with some measure of restraint — even when the VFL/AFL was doing its worst. That’s the difference: we might lose games, we might lose players, but we didn’t lose our dignity by turning the club into a circus of tantrums, curses, and headline-chasing outrage.

Seeking to have Brayshaw's salary removed from our cap. 2. The Mac Andrew debacle 3. The whole tanking saga was a stitch up. I could name another dozen.

Any mail on why the AFL is obsessed with Buckley specifically @Chook in Perth? They have at least three serious other options it seems to me.

She's still upset we pinched Laurie Fowler at the end of '74 and he went on to represent Victoria and win three Blueys. Her job is to make money for Stokes. Needs to top-up her super.

Woke up feeling a bit low this morning. Read this thread and realised, comparatively, I’m higher than Liam Jurrah in 2010.

Who Will Be Our Next Coach?

Um, Norm Smith was doing this in the 50's and he said he got the idea from his brother Len Smith. Any other "innovations"? Once again, we’re told, with great excitement, that “pushing up from half-back” is some revolutionary tactical leap. In reality, it’s been part of footy since at least the early 1950s. It's generally accepted that Len Smith introduced this mode of play as a consistent game style, which was further refined by his younger brother, Norm, throughout the late ’50s and ’60s. Ron Barassi himself acknowledged that Len Smith was the forerunner of the modern running game. Norm famously ran Brian Dixon off half-back, while Barassi took the same principle to great effect at both Carlton and North. Malcolm Blight then pushed it even further at Geelong, playing Gary Ablett Sr. off half-back — partly to freak out the opposition and partly to free up the great man to create options further afield. Listening to some modern commentators, though, you’d be forgiven for thinking these ideas were invented in the last five minutes — probably between ad breaks.
