He quite likes Melbourne, or I should say he really liked CAC. But he thinks Bailey is excellent and that the club has a good future.
He manages Newton, Bate, Miller, Dunn, Watts, but I forget the rest.
This is where I disagree. He's not a great contested grab and playing deep doesn't suit him. He' much better as a third tall playing high and using his hard running.
Those stats are very ordinary for a first round draft pick in his 5th year. It's not hard to have some average ranking categories in the worst team in the league - 4th in goals yet less than one a game and only 2 more than Robertson who's played just the one. More to the point, Bate looks worse than he did 3 years ago. And I suspect that it's because he's being played out of position. He's being asked to play deep this year and he's just not a key forward. He's an ok mark on a lead, but a poor mark in a contested situation. He's far better suited as a hard running third tall playing high. He actually becomes quite a difficult matchup. I haven't written him off as I've seen too much to suggest that he's better than what he's currently showing and I believe that he'll benefit from a change of forwardline structure.
However, you're clutching at straws highlighting these average stats that at best papermache wide cracks.
Whether he tried to kick it or not doesn't matter. Players with class and x factor have those things happen to them - regularly. It's funny how they rarely, if ever, happen to the also-rans.
Me, I'll pretend he meant it.
We'll agree to differ. His preseason form was superb and he's had 3 weeks back. His form in his 3 games at Casey has been solid with his first 2 weeks better than the weekend, but he got a lot of unassuming touches at Coburg and was asked to play different roles.
But here's the real kicker. Give me a half fit Grimes over Dunn every day of the millenium. (but Grimes isn't half fit, btw)
He's not down at all, but if you watch carefully you'll note that the opposition is paying him far more attention this year as he's considered one of our line breakers.
I too spoke to an Old Xav and he said that Hailebury won easily. One of us has his wires crossed - probably me.
He also said that Scully will be a star and would ALREADY be our best midfielder. Mind you, that's not saying much.
Some on here don't like this analogy because of the Clay Sampson's of this world, but I like it and use it regularly. My Brother and I used this analogy after the match. Can you see Dunn or Sylvia playing in a premiership side ? The conclusion was that we could both see Sylvia playing in a premiership team, but not Dunn. My Brother's view was that whilst Sylvia will never be the star we craved, he is an excellent finisher. He can kick goals and how often does he miss his target by foot ? In a better side he'd be a very damaging player.
He's a keeper for mine.
Bell is one of the least "natural footballers" I've seen. He's poor below his knees, he's not crisp or clean with his disposal, he fumbles, he reacts slowly in a tight disposal situation, makes poor decisions, and has diabolical awareness.
Other than that he's great.
