I think you are right. If it was a simple 2 year deal then I can't see why he wouldn't have got it done already. My suspicion is that we are trying to push for a long term deal and his management is, rightfully, playing hardball... probably calling Tim Lamb after each game going "mate the price has just gone up another $100k". And we could also be trying to get a few other 'smaller' deals done, or even perhaps trying to lock Oliver away long term which may enable us to up our offer to Jackson, as perhaps Oliver would be happy to accept more years at less coin like his best mate Trac. I think if Jackson was keen on going back to WA the jungle drums would be beating very loudly. He is too much of a hot commodity for this sort of stuff not to leak from 'inside sources'.

I can't see them resting Trac unless rest is going to miraculously fix his ongoing knee swelling, which sounds like something he has battled with for a long time. Even at 50% output, his presence means the opposition is very focused on him and it allows others to come into the game more. He can also easily rest up forward and we can give ANB and Kossi more midfield minutes, or even Gus and JJ now that Lever is back in the side. Given Brown is going to miss again, Trac up forward working with Fritta is definitely not a bad option and it's another weapon we can pull in games.

I think no change. Tomlinson will play on Himmelberg and May will take Hogan. No need to rest Trac if his knee is structurally ok. He can always play more forward minutes.

I am also perplexed about the crappy time slot for the Freo game. Perhaps it’s due to the time difference in Perth? The timeslot for the North game isn’t bad given we all have to vote in the election during the day.

I don’t think that was what he was inferring at all. I think he was saying that May has been trying to organize a very raw defense without Lever and trying to tell Smith where to stand because Smith was playing the Lever role and it’s not something you can just learn to do in 4 games.
