  1. The previous time we sacked a coach was Mark Neeld. I think we all thought that was the right decision at the time, and since then have had a premiership (admittedly 8 years after the sacking). So sometimes it works ...
  2. Was it just me, or did others think the same when Goody said he would miss giving George Gawn a bag of lollies after we win? My thought was "You stingy bugger Goody!"
  3. Unfortuantely there is plenty of precedent -- just not one that makes any sense. The precedent seems to be about whether you play for certain clubs, are a star player and on the media's "good bloke" list, and the stage of the season. Any resemblance between similar incidents and their outcomes is purely accidental ☚ī¸
  4. I noticed a few times yesterday that Gawn would let JVR or Petty take a ruck contest in the forward 50 while he stayed a kick behind the play. Is this something new? I must say I like the idea if it means preserving Max for a season or two longer. As he showed yesterday, he can kick a goal, but that is better left to specialist forwards IMHO.
  5. The vomit one will do for this ... 😃
  6. IMHO he should have got a lot more. Deliberately elbowing a defenceless opponent in the head when being held on the ground? And not even being involved in the tackle? A lot of potential for serious damage there. But unfortunately we have all come to expect nonsense from the AFL ...
  7. Can we just call Gleeson "The Goose" from now on? ☚ī¸ BB, you can get your geese on any time you like ... 😃
  8. That is an insult to BS 😀
  9. "We find that there was little, if any, chance, that the MFC player would get a fair hearing." It is hard to read this balderdash with a straight face ....
  10. Xerri: 3 weeks. May: 3 weeks. What???? You have to be kidding me!
  11. Disappointing but expected. Both deserve suspension for mine.
  12. Agreed. Three weeks seems a little light given the act -- "careless" seems a generous grading to me.
  13. Agreed about Tmac. The only vague justification I can summon is that there is more future in Lever than in Tmac. But on form, it is Tmac by the length of the straight...
  14. Clarko's opinion on aggro in footy isn't worth the paper it is written on, especially when it is about one of his own players. I really hope we never have another injury in footy like poor Neil Schache, but [censored] like Clarkson and the commentary box parrots are creating an atmosphere in which this is increasingly likely, unfortunately.
  15. How many weeks should Ben King get for his behind-the-play hit on Steven May? Note the question is how many he should get, not how many he will get...
  16. Reminds me of the time yonks ago when John Kennedy was asked about umpiring after his team got the rough end of the pineapple one day. He said "Normally I say 'No comment'. Today I say 'Absolutely no comment whatsoever!'".
  17. Lots of things rankle me about that result, but one that sticks in my craw more than most is that Moore IMHO should be cited for pushing Melksham into that contest with Howe. What do the panel think? Also, it seems we had the measure of the Pies running game for much of the match, just like the last quarter against Brisbane. If we can keep doing that, we will be in a lot more games this year. If only we could kick even a little bit straighter!
  18. I am not sure that is right. If you are holding the ball and the free is against you, you have to give it straight to the player indicated by the umpjire, or else it is 50. The problem with Kozzie's 50 was that he sort of had the ball while lying on the ground, which leaves some room for doubt.
  19. Agreed. I recall thinking last year when he was at least able to walk around that it could be the last such appearance. Seeing him being wheeled around in the chair made it seem inevitable that we shouldn't expect him there any more. I felt a little choke when the Dees ran out and Gawn made a bee line for Danners, who was almost right below us (in our customary position in the Redlegs area behind the Punt Road goals). I am sure that will be in the "I was there when ..." moments in the future.
  20. It won't happen of course, but shouldn't Moore be cited for pushing Melksham into that contest with Howe?
  21. Pedantic point: We beat them in Alice by 3 points in 2020 https://www.saints.com.au/matches/2859
  22. Any comment on the length of the last quarter? Wasn't it almost 40 minutes? There were a lot of goals kicked plus the stoppage when Spargo was taken off for a concussion test, but it still seemed excessive. What is the record for the longest quarter (barring lightning delays and power outages)? Ironically, if the quarter was a couple of minutes shorter, we would have won by more ...
  23. Demonland goes nuts? 😀
  24. That was a win for the ages! One thing that stood out to me was our attitude and intensity, especially in the last quarter. We left a few goals out there, for sure, but we kept at it with plenty of second, third and fourth efforts as required, and if a mistake was made, we just kept on going without dropping our heads. It reminded me of our best a few years ago, when the last quarter was always ours, mainly due to intensity, pressure and 1%ers. With some tidier skills (including better goal kicking), we are not too far away from our win over Brisbane in the Qualifying final in '21 (a stretch I know, but a Demon can dream!).
  25. Thanks. I am a little short on toilet paper :-)
