  1. I'm wondering whether I actually had greater feelings of joy when those miracles occurred than I'm getting right now when we win week after week. Does anyone else have a similar emotional response? It's quite disconcerting.
  2. I'm starting to think people given the name Max at birth have been given some sort of psycho-physiological boost that makes them grow above 2 meters tall. Max Gawn, Max King, Max Lynch, Max Ramsden, etc. (And didn't we also have a draftee called Max King who was a ruckman but never quite made the big time? Or have I remembered incorrectly?)
  3. The two feelings don't have to be mutually exclusive. We can smash the team while at the same time sympathising with their supporters. Or not.
  4. It's unrelated to the Chandler matter, but I don't think the AFL should have the power to appeal. It's their MRO and Tribunal. If they don't like the decisions, change the model or the people engaged to be the MRO or Tribunal members, but don't cherry-pick which decisions to appeal and which ones not to.
  5. McGovern had a go at Todd's brother? I didn't know that!
  6. And that's due to his hard work. And some good coaching, too.
  7. I think the opposite on all three.
  8. Agree. Very impressive. Strikes me as a future coach. I believe he's one of those players who knows he has had to work hard to achieve success. It's the sort of background which he can draw upon should he choose to coach others.
  9. I've always been a fan of the simple designs of traditional jumpers such as our navy blue with the red triangle, Carlton's solid blue with the CFC logo and Richmond's and Essendon's solid black with coloured sash. I've never liked the messier designs of the Eagles or the paddle-pop Lions. However, indigenous art is inherently "busy" with its use of pontillism and animal motifs. These busier designs work brilliantly for indigenous themed jumpers.
  10. It's somewhat ironic that the MRO position was created as a single person operation intended to remove the inconsistencies which occurred under the previous model when different people made decisions as to penalties. What I suspect the MRO process has shown is that the inconsistencies derive from the model, not from the decision makers. However, I doubt that there will ever be a model which does not produce inconsistent outcomes. It's a result of every situation being a unique set of circumstances.
  11. This post could be inserted in any thread about any topic and still be correct.
  12. I think I'd be happier, and I suspect Mazer would too, if ding's statement was modified to say "I want Jake Bowey to play over 200 games for Melbourne and go his whole career undefeated".
  13. So, at least once in every decade since the end of the 19th century.
  14. There was a joke at the time: "What's green and stuffs cats?" Answer: the MCG in September. Apart from a few years in the late 2000s and early 2011s, not much has changed.
  15. "Fact check on aisle 1"
  16. Our coaches or coaches of the opposition? Or both?
  17. I find it difficult to judge, particularly on TV, but I suspect Hunt has been given the role of lockdown defender on the opposition's most dangerous small forward. I'm certain he played on Shai Bolton and Jack Higgins and kept both out of their respective games. He was also on Liam Ryan for at least some of yesterday's game. Can anyone who's more observant than me confirm that this has become his permanent role?
  18. Update: Now 16 Our winning streak of 16 puts us equal 9th on the ladder of consecutive wins. Way out in front is Geelong with 23 in 1952/53. Also, we're the only team to have started two consecutive seasons 9-0 twice. Previous seasons were 1955, 1956 and, of course, 2021. No pressure... but they were all Premiership years.
  19. 6. Brayshaw 5. Viney 4. Jordon 3. Langdon 2. Pickett 1. Petracca
  20. I know English is a fluid language which changes regularly, but someone being described as "in the protocols" is surely some form of linguistic abuse.
  21. Thanks. I'd completely forgotten about that most unfortunate tragedy.
  22. A better solution might be to replace all the footy journalists with robots.
  23. Fascinating data, but please don't tell the AFL. Quick question - why have Geelong and Adelaide played one fewer H&A game than every other team (other than GWS and GCS)? I can't recall what might have happened there.
  24. With no Weideman or Daw picked in the squad we should safely assume that there is absolutely nothing wrong with Gawn's knee. If there had been any doubt, you would assume one of those two names would have appeared. Assuming no late changes, I suspect Melksham will be the medi-sub to get him one game closer to his 200. (I think it will be his 199th game).
  25. The irony about the weekend work discussion and traditional football starting times is that football games didn't always start at 2.10pm on a Saturday. Up until the 1960s it was common for those who worked Monday to Friday to also work on Saturday morning. Because of this, Saturday games used to start at 2.30pm. They only shifted to 2.10pm when Saturday morning work for full-time Monday to Friday workers stopped. My recollection is that this was probably some time in the mid 1960s. It must have meant that some games in mid-winter would have finished in near darkness, given that there were no lights at most VFL grounds, including the MCG.
