  1. I can see the logic in playing Preuss if Gawn doesn't play. On the other hand, I suspect (but with no hard evidence), that the Match Committee wants to find a way to get Tom McDonald into the team. I wouldn't be surprised if T McDonald comes in and shares ruck duties with Jackson, each doing about half the game.
  2. Pity Chris Lamb still doesn't play for us. Then I could make a pithy comment about garlic salt being the one I like.
  3. AVB received a big head knock early in the game. Was lucky not to be concussed or to have broken something. Could explain his fumbling, but he's never really been a slick ball handler. And should add that he wasn't alone, particularly in the first three quarters. For example, Langdon fumbled all night, although gets credit for being where the ball was so often at both ends of the ground.
  4. A warrior, yes. But I still wonder whether that's enough. Last night he fumbled (but was not alone) and didn't do much with the ball.
  5. 6. Oliver 5. Viney 4. May 3. Petracca 2. Weideman 1. Salem Closely followed by Lever. Brayshaw gets the Encouragement Award. His last quarter was vintage and hopefully he can continue on from there.
  6. I expect us to be about 6-8 goals up 10 minutes into the second quarter and to finally scrape through with a 4 point win.
  7. I can't recall if a VFL/AFL team ever went through a whole season without winning a game. GWS and Gold Coast when they first started and Essendon when half its list was suspended won at least one game. As did we in the Neeld years. If our team goes into this game assuming victory is a foregone conclusion they've got rocks in their head. We have to go into this game with the attitude that we are playing a team that is challenging for top position and play accordingly.
  8. Partly because of past performance, but also because he gets to more contests than Jackson. I know stats aren't everything, but while both players had minimal influence last week, T McDonald took 4 marks to Jackson's zero. McDonald also had 5 kicks (Jackson 2) and 1 tackle (Jackson 0). To avoid accusations of bias, McDonald and Jackson both had 2 handballs and Jackson had 4 hitouts to McDonald's zero. As I said, neither had any statistical influence on the game. McDonald's bigger and stronger body also means he's more likely to take contested marks. Is he out of form? Of course. His immediate upside, though, is higher although in the longer term, I would be disappointed if Jackson doesn't reach a higher threshold.
  9. I would have expected Jackson to be out before T McDonald, partly because of the need to manage payers and partly because I have more confidence in T McDonald at the moment, even with his struggles, than I do with Jackson. That Jackson is playing gives me an uncomfortbale feeling that it's some insurance in case Max isn't right.
  10. Actually, I think we're now a stock to buy. The President's public comments which I assume were made after he'd made some private ones to Goodwin and Mahoney have given the club an opportunity to make some bold choices for our next game. I had earlier suggested three changes; I now think there will be five so as to send a message. In: Tomlinson, vandenBerg (if fit), Rivers, Bennell and Jordan. If vandenBerg isn't ready, one of Bedford or Hunt. Out: Pickett, Jackson, Jones, Harmes, Hannan
  11. Pickett, Hannan, Jones should be dropped/rested/managed. Harmes and Brayshaw have had a few poor games now and both should be rested, but if the three abovenamed go out, perhaps they gate another chance. It would help if they played in their natural positions. I would bring in Tomlinson, because he is our best second wingman. It didn't work with any of Harmes, Jones, Brayshaw last year and, not surprisingly, not working with them this year. If he's ready, vandenBerg should return. Rivers or Hunt (even though he hasn't played as a defender for a while) should take the 7th defensive spot instead of Harmes, who should go onball with ocassional visits forward. So, Ins: Tomlinson, vandenBerg and Rivers/Hunt Outs: Pickett, Hannan, Jones.
  12. 6. Gawn (although nowhere near his best game) 5. May 4. Hibberd 3. Petracca 2. Lever 1. Salem (but what has happened to his kicking? Or, in BT speak, his ability as the "best distributor of the ball"?) It wasn't easy finding those six. The rest were shambolic, except for Sparrow who I considered for the last vote.
  13. Seeing as I'm working from home, is there any way I can claim watching this game at home as a tax deduction?
  14. Jaded, I hope your friend recovers.
  15. On the contrary. The important point is that the player asked for permission rather than just tried to bring it in without permission. Nothing wrong with that. If only someone had thought to ask for permission for their children to visit a theme park with their grandparents.
  16. If people knew they would be named and shamed, would it make a difference to their behaviour? I suspect it would, and therefore I have no problem with idiots being named. But it needs to be all idiots and not just those with the least power and influence. As to the family members who breached the AFL's Covid rules, they should be sent home. Today.
  17. Not sure if this is referring to a football strategy or the Queensland government's Covid plan.
  18. You could argue that because we're 3/4 and not 5/2 we need to "exepreiment away" because what's happened so far hasn't worked as we would have liked. But I understand your point.
  19. There's a lot to like about Luke Jackson. His hairstyle is not one of those things.
  20. This country really needs to etsablish a new indictable offence called "criminal stupidity".
  21. Apart from ANZAC Eve, have we ever previously played a Thursday night game broadcast on free-to-air TV?
  22. Luci, I wouldn't give too much credence to anything Goodwin says publicly (or any coach, for that matter).
  23. In the last post in the now locked Changes thread, Kev Martin says Sparrow is a great kick. Who's right?
  24. Has Sparrow been training with the defenders? if not, who takes the seventh defender's spot to replace Jetta? Harmes?
