  1. Which is better: Robbo or AI? After all, News Corp has stated that it uses AI to produce 3,000 stories a week. In fact, how do we know it didn't prepare this list?
  2. Alternatively, perhaps having looked at who's available to be added to the list, the club has decided to wait until better choices become available, such as in this year's national draft.
  3. Does the club have an annual "Most Courageous Player" award? If not, naming one after Brayshaw would seem appropriate to me. He has shown as much courage this week in making the decision to retire as he showed on field throughout his career.
  4. But how would the AFL have Brayshaw's medical advice? Surely that's personal health information which wouldn't be shared with the AFL unless Brayshaw explicitly gave permission for it to be provided.
  5. It's going to be hard to beat this as my choice for post of the year.
  6. Maynard should not make a public apology. That would just be analysed and picked apart. He should, however, make private contact with Brayshaw to extend best wishes for Angus's future. He may have already done so. The secret of being classy is to have done it when no-one (other than Brayshaw) knows you've done it.
  7. If the AFL has created a substitute for game day to compensate a team that loses a player due to concussion, it would seem to me a logical step for the AFL to allow a team to replace a player on its list who is forced into a medical retirement because of concussion. Clubs should not have to be forced to wait to do so until the next available draft period. If nothing else, it puts unnecessary pressure on players contemplating retirement due to concussion who may feel they are leaving their team one short.
  8. The fact that an appeals body determined that Maynard should not be suspended clearly confirmed that a new rule was needed. We might not agree with that tribunal's decision, but the AFL was left with no choice but to amend the rule to ensure a future tribunal would not make the same decision in similar circumstances. And to be even more controversial. I wonder how Maynard feels today? I expect he feels terrible. Whether anybody on here cares, or should care, is another matter, of course.
  9. Brayshaw reminds me of Luke Ball in that upon retirement he has so many options available to him. Will he go into the media? Into AFL coaching? Into an admin role at club level or within the AFL itself? Few players who retire have these options. Whatever he chooses, I'm sure he'll be successful. With Paddy McCartin, that means picks 1 and 3 from the same draft have been forced into early retirement because of concussion.

I'm not familiar with the works of Taylor Swift. Are these the lyrics of one of her songs called "Bring it I say"?

Appropriate comment from someone called "Cheap Seats". Reminds me of the probably apocryphal story of a club's Members' Handbook which had in its Table of Contents, "Seats - see under Members"
  12. The list is clearly influenced by statistics and awards. Hence, just like the Brownlow medal, defenders don't get a look in. I'd seriously contemplate including Tom McDonald in this list ahead of Fritsch. (Steven May and Jake Lever are better players, but have not played in red and blue long enough).
  13. And take your hands out of your pockets. Not only does it look slovenly, but it will damage your pockets. (I'm only repeating what was said to me at around the same age more than half a century ago.)
  14. Does the paper explain the ranking formula? Is it their own subjective assessment or another Champion Data derivation? Or generated by AI? (It has been claimed elsewhere that a significant proportion of the Herald Sun's "stories" are now generated by AI.)
  15. I have no idea whether you'll be proven right or wrong. But, gee, I love your enthusiasm.
  16. Yes, really (if you can believe Wikipedia): "The children's choir singing toward the end was sourced from an archive recording of a WWII Hitler Youth choir singing "Die Jugend Marschiert" (Youth on the March) and the song concludes dramatically with the children's choir shouting "Sieg Heil!" immediately followed by the cataclysmic sound of an atomic bomb explosion."
  17. And with a Hitler Youth choir right at the end (well, just before the atomic bomb explosion)
  18. I was sure you were going to include Snakes on a Plane in your pop culture references
  19. For the literalists out there, I know 7 is an odd number. But, it seems odd as much figuratively as literally. I can't get my head around why there are going to be 7 periods of play.
  20. I reckon we'd be better with some onballers, too.
  21. With Salem running laps with Oliver, I wonder whether Salem is really rehabbing something or just being used as company for Oliver as he continues with his re-integration. It would make sense to me if the club was helping Oliver by making sure he wasn't always doing the boring stuff (running laps) on his own.
  22. Bad list management. Presumably salary cap problems.
  23. I'm very pleased. I had thought "decimated" meant reducing something by 90% to leave one-tenth. Having checked I'm pleased with the better definition of it meaning only one in ten rather than nine in ten. (On the other hand, the historical, literal interpretation is that decimate meant "to kill one-tenth of a group as military punishment in the Roman army." But let's just ignore that detail.)
  24. I'd rather name him after a piece of clothing than a Nazi sympathiser.
  25. I'm not in favour of it at all. But if it is to be introduced, it should not take effect until all traded future draft picks have been used. Trading is inextricably linked with draft picks. And given future picks are already "in play", the mid-season draft should only be introduced after they have been used.
