I’m on the train home and 2 Tiges fans are watching the 2020 GF on their phone lol. Ive had a few and I’m not even joking!

I think they realise the era is over!

    I know those guys

They’re on the Richmond Match Committee and they were studying the old replays as an educational document trying to understand where their mojo went

    Well said.

Also sometimes the attributes that drive success are not necessarily very nice ones. The single minded drive and selfishness that drives top sportsmen and individuals across all fields in society does not always make them nice people.

History remembers those who are talented AND nice , like Ghengis Khan for example

  4. We pay the MCC/MFC full membership for our five (grown up and with mortgages) children as well as for me and the old fashioned Guest ticket for my wife.

I start taking Valium in August

One thing you do get with the full MFC is a nominated  child to be a member and with 13 grandchildren only one of whom is unfaithful (poo and wee) there’s no shortage of candidates to take up the membership.

In a couple of years my 50 year membership of the MCC comes up and the annual premium becomes $50 a year which means I might be able to give up work

  5. If Jesse doesn’t go this trade period and I hope he doesn’t, every media event next year will make his life a never ending circus with questions and speculation.

Maybe even if he has said to the FD that he wants out next year, he could be persuaded to sign a (three year) contract extension to keep the dogs away in 2019 with the FD agreeing that they will enter negotiations this time next year.

This would give him a calm footy environment for the year and place the club in a (more) sound negotiating position instead of the frantic mess we are currently witnessing.

Supposition but could be a reasonable interim outcome

  6. With the much publicity about the trade deals swirling around Jesse Hogan, especially in view of the fact that I noticed an article about this in a tabloid lying in a really cheap cafe I happened to enter today, I’m a bit surprised by the black hole of commentary by those who might be most interested.

Maybe the Grand Final could suggest that power marking forwards can be essential for team success (forwards not forward).

Maybe Jesse’s not feeling the love.

A casual observer might suggest that Jesse has developed his capacity to play different roles this season and in a talented team this can be a tactical advantage.

    Don’t Go Jesse

    please

  7. I was there and can’t add much to those fantastic summaries and to have footage is a wonderful memory.

    Perhaps a little context

The world was simpler then and evil wore gaol stripes  -  probably so they felt at home after they got out.

There was huge antagonism between those two teams in those days - not like the respect shown today - although even as a young one understanding right and wrong I had to respect Ray Gabelich’s great lumbering run when (as I remember it) a kick from the Melbourne half forward line caught him alone on the other side of the centre. He certainly nearly won it for the forces of Darkness.

Those were the days of many complaints about Melbourne’s  ‘home ground advantage’, when three or four people would go up for a mark which would always be awarded to the man in front and when any little push in the back was paid every time.

    so different....

    and never ever forgotten

  8. SOMe mind boggling decisions against us tonight

The Ministry of Truth one’s were

Neville Jetta in the first quarter “holding the ball “ (!!!!) (that resulted in a goal )

Brayshaw and Lewis both trying to injure Hawthorn players’ knees with their brains

Umpires who produce adjudications like these are a clear and present danger to the survival of players -  but only of certain teams  -  for example Melbourne Football Club even if no others.

Probably our Workcover premiums are higher than other clubs because it’s recognised that we are fair game and at higher risk because duty of care just doesn’t apply to MFC as far as the game’s umpires are concerned.

Put $50 on a Hawthorn win and you can watch the game knowing either outcome will make you feel slightly happy.

Think we can do it. Go Dees

That’s what my cardiologist says I have to do before I can watch the game

Jesse will have to wins his flags with Casey. Can't fit him in the 22 now

    Harsh

No doubt with Jesse not being the required target the team balance has changed and we’ve become more threatening probably because we’re less predictable.

Jesse had been going up the ground more to become a more versatile player prior to his injury and when you consider his better application to chasing and tackling this year, the signs are there that he will be a real contributor next year.

    Long Live Jesse !

  11. Having been in Geelong these past two days I’ve had the benefit of exposure to the Geelong Advertiser and its reporting of community affairs.

The one particular story (among many worthy entrants) that caught my eye was about the local lad who required the paper to publish a formal correction after he was caught unlicensed and doing wheelies with an unfortunate rabbit tied to his rear bumper.

Anyways, the Advertiser reported (incorrectly) that he had been arrested on the spot and charged and he required a retraction -  namely that he had merely been charged and not arrested  (facts not in dispute)

    Advertiser’s mistake publicly acknowledged.

Anyways, I recommend this journal as an indicator of where the current state of society sits - it never ever disappoints.

But back to the matter in hand -  with its back page lead of how Gazza was gunna show them and with so many fulsome articles on how Melbourne would be overawed what with their almost total lack of finals experience and with the astonishing talent of Dangerfield, Tommy Boy, Selwood etc it would appear that the possibility of Melbourne winning the game was almost unthinkable.

What a thrill to see that pressure and energy from a great group playing for each other and the team -  beats the individualists

and having watched Nathan Jones through the dark years as our only quality player at times, it’s been a joy to see his faithful service to our club return a dividend in his second final appearance.

     Thanks so much Nate
