The key question you raised is the key question - it is weighing up financials vs the value you put on the non financials. I am hoping he sees that and stays
-
agree up to the point that if it is all about the "once in a lifetime opportunity" you would then have to consider and compare all the "once in lifetime opportunities" on the table.

Alright - I'll have a go at putting clarity for the parties at war. I havent read anywhere where there are massive objections and bashing of people who fall into the camp of 1/ Believing he will stay 2/ Believing he will go 3/ No idea what so ever ( thats me !) The angst has been caused because anyone who has suggested that he has signed heads of agreement, a contract or has verbally committed to go is calling Tom a liar and it is a reflection on his character. The Ox by saying that TS received a contract offer last October is calling TS and his management liars Mike Sheahan and Mark Stevens by stating that they believe their sources when they say that he is committed and going are calling TS/his management liars. Anyone who suggests that he has already made a decision is calling TS/His management liars. Simply put - if you believe he will go - wont be able to resist the bucks - well and good. But if you believe and take on board any of the statements by the Ox, Sheahan, Stevens and co regarding 98% gone, committed etc then thats also fine - but then you must accept that when you take that position you are basically saying the TS/his management have lied.

Thanks for that - I was only half listening - hence my last part of the post - "did I imagine that !"
-
I am surprised that no one else bought up Mark "Roo" (because I cant be bothered looking up how to spell his last name !) on "On the Couch" last night. He spoke about Trengove being an Adelaide boy and the MFC having to put a big offer on the table to keep him as Adelaide are already into him about when his contract ends next year. Did I imagine that ? Me thinks he will be asked about that. Interesting to hear what he says.
-
I have asked this question before and i will ask it again and again I will put in the disclaimer - the kid has said in his presser that it isnt all about money. Can someone explain this to me ? If the offers are reportedly $2m apart how can anyone say that the earning potential long term is greater at the MFC ???? - this contract will take him to 25 years old - which means he will have to make up $2M in the last approximate 7 years of his football life ??? You are kidding yourself. If he stays with us I beleive he will have to accept that he will not make as much money over his career at the MFC. As stated above , I am hoping he sees there are more important things than pure dollars and cents.
-
correct - and its only a circus if you happen to buy tickets to the big top
-
And what about Cale Morton - or because we are not sure he is a wanted commodity and he may be bait that we have two completely different rule books ?
-
I agree that there will be lots of sweeteners for Scully at the MFC and I am hoping that there will be some sort of Judd ambassadorship somewhere in the offing. I still dont believe any club will match whats put on the table over the lifetime of a footballer that GWS and GC17 can offer because they have THAT much more to play with in the first two years where they get more money in the cap and dont have pay nearly as much out as a disproportionate % of their lists are draftees on low fixed salaries for two years. I think someone mentioned Connolly on here and also the dogs mentioned that they cannot complete on financials but hope to sell the bigger picture. It is my hope that the differential is not so great to become irresistable. But I have little doubt that there will be a $ gap that all footballers who are offered a GWS/GC17 contract must consider. I believe this is a given.

As a disclaimer to the below comment I will suggest it not only about money for many players Having said that ....... Please enlighten me on exactly how you have reached your conclusion above ? Kreuzer may be better off, playing in a better side, playing in a finals side, playing closer to home, better culture etc but I completely reject the premise that he will be better off financially - the reported money some of the players are being offered will mean that there is no way over the length of their careers that the total payment by GWS would drop below what their original club could pay. The only carrot GWS does have is the players over the term of their career will be better off financially at GWS.
-
Disagree with your first comments - I think the angst about losing players will be as bad for all clubs with the advent of free agency - we just havent got there yet. Agree with your second point - and that is the main point - this TS situation is being driven by rumour, innuendo and speculation in the absense of any of us knowing the hard facts. I wont stick my head in the sand - But since I have no facts only rumour and innuendo I choose to believe and do three things 1/ Beleive that there have been no commencement of negotiations with GWS and TS/TS management as per TS and his managements statements 2/ No contracts signed as per TS and his managements statements 3/ Everything will unfold at the end of the season and Tom may indeed go to GWS for a bucketload of cash - but I hoping that our professional management will make an offer that comprises of fair recompense and the selling the dream that he can stay in his home state and the MFC is going places to ensure that he does indeed re-sign with the MFC. I have no idea on the outcome but this is how I am choosing to react to this situation.
-
And therein lies the reason for all the ulcers - reacting to commentators and former club champions rather than letting the process take its course. Welcome to the new world - this is not a one off thing for the next two years because of GWS - with Free Agency, every year, every club is going to have the same nightmare of older players coming out of contract that can move much more freely than ever before. Once a player says - I want to wait until the end of the season to renegotiate then we are going to have the situation of everyones guts getting tied in knots. I for one and not going to get into a panic as this is the first of many players that this will happen to in the coming years. ( and to repeat myself - for those who say this doesnt happen to other clubs - Pendlebury is the perfect example of a player that has committed to one year at the Pies - has there ever been a more transparent play in the history of the game -"I am committed to the Pies and committed to negotiating an even bigger contract next season with GWS still on the radar" ) Come, go , stay , leave - whatever. I trust the club is and will put its best foot - it will either be enough or it won't.
-
I think the answer to that is pretty simple - why on earth would he ? Put TS in front of a microphone and what do you think the first question he is going to be asked ? ( and then reasked 50 different ways)
-
Ummm - Jack Watts contracts negotiations were completed AFTER the end of the last season. Unless I am mistaken, isnt that exactly what TS is asking to do ?

they call me Nutbean "two sheds" Jackson

Wait until free agency comes in - that is going to be like a yearly introduction of GWS and GC17 - we are worried about the loss of our young talent because lets be honest , our older talent is not quite where it should be - wait until these budding youngsters develop and get to where we hope they will be - and then are open to free agency raids - it will be a test of all our nerves.

I shouldn't be posting here.

It isnt a massive fail if he signs or re-signs. My only problem with your current line of thought is not your opinion on whether he goes or stays but lining up two articles which not only have the benefit of one of the interviewees contract is NOT up for renewel this year (therefore no heat on Trengove) but suggesting that articles shows that Trenners has shown some loyalty that is missing with Tom Scully. Tom Scully has said the he would like to be a one club player and envisages that happening. Trenners said the same. Whether both of them or neither them re-sign is not the issue - comparing articles and then interpreting the articles the way you have is.
-
And since the Trengove article, Trenners has gone completely silent. A worrying sign.....(not). With a new article being written every five minutes about Scully there will be continual speculation and analysis over every word uttered. The major difference between the two is one is out of contract the end of this year and the other not until next year so the spotlight is not on Jack Trengove. I am not as bullish as RPFC ( I have no idea if he will stay or not - like BB59, I think way too logically and my head says go but my guts says stay) but I wont jump at shadows either. Each year players will need contracts renewed and some will be renegotiated at the end of the season. Now with free agency on the horizon I believe more players will be waiting until seasons end as the restrictions to move clubs will ease significantly. My attitude is 1/ Dont believe everything you read in the papers or on supporter sites ( in fact dont believe anything). There are so many forces at play - media, player managers, clubs and hysterical supporters and so many games played - that I have adopted a "listen to what the people who are directly involved are saying" policy and take that on face value ( even that can be dangerous - the article on Trengove is a perfect example - where on earth does he say I want to be a demon life ?) 2/ I believe this is the best administration at the club I have witnessed since I have been following my Dee's and they will act professionally and leave no stone unturned to keep our best talent. 3/ I will worry about things the club can control. Scully has said end of the season so thats what it will be - I will worry then. I believe the club is not sitting back doing nothing now - I truly believe it is working behind the scenes to make every effort to get Scully recontractd. good enough for me
-
Where exactly did he say he only wants to play for us. This is what I find amusing - you are reading what you want to read - line up Scully's press conference comments and the article on Trengove and there is zero difference what is being said - the only difference is the headline which I am sure he didnt pen. The only other difference is we are going banana's on Scully because there is/will be another large offer on table.
-
If anyone is ever interested in my opinion - ill go with "100% of what BB59 said"
-
I cant even listen to him His opinion is always right. Talks over anyone else who has a differing view. Will not listen to any other side of an argument. I switch to triple J when he comes on.
-
Not me - you can accuse me of being over patient - I sit squarely in the "hang on to them for way too long" camp Except for ruckman who for some reason blossom late - I dont believe we see what a player really brings to the table until 23
