  1. Great call by the recruiters and a huge call by Jason Taylor to back their judgement. As it said in the article he could have easily overruled Interesting also that they had Jayden rated in the 20's. Certainly nailed that
  2. I miss the old top bar too
  3. Yes it would be very awesome
  4. Jeepers Jacka for the first time in a decade I'm in a pretty happy place with this footy club and you have to take us back to the nightmare.
  5. Well my 1,000th post is a good time to discover I know nothing about football. I thought Vickery was a player of limited ability, who goes missing often and would struggle to find suitors. Hawthorn obviously see him completely differently. I'm backing the Hawks.
  6. I like your reasoning and truly hope you are right. Trenners was certainly the better player in their first two seasons with us. It will come down to if he has completely gotten over his injury and if he can move onwards. He was a number 2 draft who in the early days looked certain to justify that ranking. If, if, if he can fulfil his potential it would be a brilliant result for Jack, the club and us supporters.
  7. 34 years ago I vomited out my nose after drinking Bundaberg rum. I haven't had a drop of the evil stuff since
  8. Absolutely agree with that. As a mere spectator it is pretty much impossible to see leadership on the field aside from the overt and inspired "follow me boys" type that only a few can do. Nathan and the the other leaders no doubt teach, encourage and contribute to the group throughout the week but it would also be wonderful to see some dragging the team over the line stuff on occasions too. Edit. Yes, way too early for Brayshaw
  9. It is a hard topic to debate. You could argue the difference between last year and this was due to having better players on the park rather than anything to do with leadership. Roos has said on a number of occasions that Nathan Jones' leadership skills have greatly improved in the past couple of years. Obviously you would take his word for that but as a spectator I didn't see any leader type actions over the past couple of weeks when playing finals were on the line.
  10. Wouldn't mind starting with Hawthorn at the G on a Friday night. The old guard V the new. Get them early in the season too. Anzac Eve Tigers plus return Friday night match QB V Pies with a 2pm Saturday return match Bye after Darwin match No Geelong at Geelong. Time for others to go there Home game V Bombers with us in our proper jumper Some fairness in home game schedule V big Vic clubs Last game of the year at the G 13 G games
  11. The Cordners RM? A couple of team of the century players Premiership Captain A couple of B & Fs in Premiership years I think Think one brother played one year for one flag One ended up being the Australian Consul to the US one a doctor in the army maybe Is there a Hall of Famer amongst them? 6 or 7 flags between them by memory Yep, that worked out OK
  12. Obviously we all have different opinions but mine is that he would be much better off starting his corporate career the day after Casey finish their finals push. I would be stunned if he got picked up and placed on another AFL list
  13. I am a huge fan of Brayshaw's and an even bigger one of Oliver's so I'm not going to vote against them but if Sydney can regularly get Academy picks of the quality of Heeney and Mills then equalisation via the draft has failed
  14. Considering Jason Taylor's record since landing with us, I think seeing who he would have chosen would just make us all sad
  15. Cmon Paul make the call to John. Time to pull in one of those favours
  16. Coming on to Demonland this morning and half expected to see a game day thread for the North/Swans match. I'm almost as toey about that game as any Melbourne one for the year. Go Swannies!!!!
  17. I think I rate Weitering higher than most here. For me he is doing things no 19 y.o key back should be doing. He is to Carlton what Jesse was to us last year but without the two years development. I would give the rising star to him.
  18. One of my favourite bits out of many Frost takes a mark at HB. David King "This is where Hawthorn have been so good, their defensive grid, we don't celebrate it enough. I don't think enough is made of the defensive grid of the Hawks and just how effective it is" Brad Johnson "Yes, from the aerial shot it is magnificent to watch Kingy" Frost then runs around the man on the mark, don't argues Hodge, gains another ten metres and kicks to Gawn who goals
  19. I get the feeling that Tom would be a strong anti performance enhancing drug advocate. Given that he is, no doubt, an in demand player and would be seeking a successful club if he was to move (which I definitely don't think he will) you would think Essendon would be 18th on the list of clubs he would go to.
  20. If you wanted a one picture summary of the woes, pitfalls and debacles to befall the Melbourne Football Club from 2008-14 a poster of James Strauss could possibly do the trick nicely Drafted way too high at pick 19 he promptly suffered injuries including a shoulder reconstruction, ankle issues and then later that horrific broken leg and then the ignominy of being kicked in the face in a match involving the AFL's new baby, the Gold Coast Suns. Symbolism galore. But the greatest injustice for him was to debut Rnd 1 2010 in a typical almost 10 goal loss to a rampaging Hawthorn. Plenty of Melbourne players have debuted in losses over the past few years but not many are asked to take the responsibility of kicking out. The Hawthorn players could smell blood and applied maximum pressure. The media still carry on (until recently) about Jack Watts' debut game ruining his development but the stupid premature pressure put on James in his first AFL game was infinitely greater. The measure of how far our club has come is that would never happen today. James suffered from a poor recruiting, dumb bad luck, haphazard development and poor coaching which pretty much sums up the MFC during those dark years
  21. Quotes from Melbourne/Hawks match "They'll take the ball from one end of the ground to the other better than any other team in the competition" "If you can't stop them, like we couldn't at stages, they can torch any side in the comp" "We couldn't stop them moving the ball nearly as much as we'd like" "When it came to the crunch we couldn't curb the influence of Gawn. His second half was as good as any ruckman that I have seen in a long, long time" "When you move the ball that quickly they will get easy goals out the back which is good for your accuracy" And my personal favourite; "They made us look silly at times" A. Clarkson press conference 6 Aug 2016
  22. Well this has been quite a good day, hasn't it
  23. They are all so identifiable but the Kennedy shuffle was probably my favourite
