  1. This is actually a quite relevant case study - this is the Rule/ Law Trenners was charged under: "Contact shall be classified as high or to the groin where a player's head or groin makes contact with another player or object such as the fence or the ground as a result of the actions of the offending player. By way of example, should the player tackle another player around the waist, and as a result of the tackle, the tackled player's head make forceful contact with the fence or ground, the contact in these circumstances would be classified as high even tough the tackle was to the body". Hansen was nearly hospitalised for a spinal injury!!!! Chapling should've been facing EXACT SAME 3 WEEK BAN - but more reasonably so, as he deliberately pushed a guy into a fence (as opposed to, yknow, tackling a dude!!!) WHERE'S THE PARITY!???
  2. (*NB: protest does not = start a new thread they can appeal - and should! AFL boxed themselves in irreparably and stupidly here... Evidence was that that is how players are TAUGHT to tackle Laws of AFL now state you can't tackle like that - so for us to challenge it meant they had 2 options: 1) agree with the MRP, and make it known that now every tackler has been taught wrong, and every player will now have to adjust EVERY tackle they make from hereon in - BUT the Laws are correct! Or 2) overule the MRP, thereby making a mockery of their particularly incompetent, and never road-tested Laws! This all evolved from the MEDICAL REPORT of DField - ie the RESULT/ IMPACT! Thereby negating the fact that the tackle WAS actually legit! Seriously - i saw 2 of these tackles in last nights game, but nobody with a predisposition to concussion was tackled, thereby there will be NO report! Ass-backwards logic of the Laws has just shunted the game back decades, long-term, and hurt the Demons badly (and Trengove's fine record) in the short-term for NO JUST RESULT!!
  3. this is the main feature here - but conversely, also the SOLE reason why he was charged!!!! AFL have tied themselves in a knot with this one!
  4. not so sure i would've called the Tackling Coach - coz basically, what they are inviting the Tribunal to do is say that type of tackling is ILLEGAL! Tribunal: Damned if they do (suspend, then everything every junior footballer all around country is taught, is WRONG!) Damned if they don't (no suspension, rules are a joke!) very risky strategy - Tom Cruise would approve...
  5. all this talk about tackling is giving me a concussion - 3 weeks Forums!
  6. bad start - we don't even have a Silk! (ie QC!) oh, and Dangerbrains 'cognitive functions' are still being monitored daily... the dude would get concussion opening the paper!
  7. just thinking lateraly - Dangerfield has a history of concussions, to the point he might be considered more prone to it than others... Give the ass-backwards manner in which this report came to being - If this tackle had happened on, say, Moles (which it DID!), and there is NO concussion, there would never have been a report! How can any system work this way?
  8. i know - insightful stuff - top work moderators!
  9. this truly is our Kennedy Assassination moment! (and seriously, 'line in the sand' for the future of the game!)
  10. so the MRP are now officially working ass-backwards... assess the gravamen of the injury - > if serious, charge player regardless of actual action... I think Thomo said it above but where's the line with regard to intent? For mine - smashing someone deliberately with a forearm (Tambling/ Brown) is 10x worse than any incidental contact incurred during a regulation play Jumper punches, shoulder-run-throughs, headlocks, mule kicks, Stven Baker, etc are all designed to have malicious intent - whether they connect or not - and should be judged harshly Players should be rewarded for playing fairly, not penalised MORE HARSHLY than intentional acts of violence! - do you really think Bails would be giving Jack the 10th degree about that spirited tackle? Or any other coach in their right mind?? Fk no!!
  11. someone quoted it on page before: "Contact shall be classified as high or to the groin where a player's head or groin makes contact with another player or object such as the fence or the ground as a result of the actions of the offending player. By way of example, should the player tackle another player around the waist, and as a result of the tackle, the tackled player's head make forceful contact with the fence or ground, the contact in these circumstances would be classified as high even tough the tackle was to the body". so theoretically, to stretch this analogy to its most ludicrous conclusion, you could push a player in the side - he falls into an opposing players shin - gets a broken jaw = high contact/ 3 weeks!
  12. yea i realise it will likely be impartial - just wanted to throw in some topical bias Interesting quote from the Hun: Trengove's suspension comes after the Dees turned to former Melbourne Storm skipper Robbie Kearns for a swift lesson in tackling, an area badly lacking in the loss to West Coast in Round 6. "Robbie came and spoke to us ... about the culture that Melbourne Storm have, how tackling is their major focus," Colin Garland said yesterday. BLAME THE NRL!!!!
  13. i appreciate that the Sling Tackle has always been outlawed - in the "classical" sense, that you weren't allowed to grab a player by the jumper and swing him 360 to the ground - its excessive and unwarranted. However, this is a TACKLE! A Dangerous Tackle (in anyone's language) would be a spike tackle, or regulation dumping. Players are taught to tackle the person to the ground! (am also disgusted that AFL have all but abandoned the 'dropping the ball' as holding the ball these day, which DField did, but comment for another time) i would have ZERO problem if this had occurred to one of our players i hardly think its a lost cause - as stated above, the technical definition of the rule applies here (notwithstanding its a CROWS medical relied upon!) - but it is commonplace that a tribunal comprised of former players will look at this objectively, likely have regard to where else they have applied a 2 week penalty (Brown, Tambling), and come to legit conclusion that it was a LEGIT TACKLE which had unfortunate consequences which were unavoidable! By this setting a precedent, in turn, meaning to 'untrain' players in their methods of tackling, is unfeasible!
  14. Just make sure that he is taught the MRP Safety First Way! First - politely ask the gentleman with the ball if he would be so kind as to allow you to partake in a tackling exercise Second - Once you have his consent, then try to make arrangements for both parties to be stationary Third - once stationary, now consider the best angle to approach applying your arms around the gentleman's body - but ONLY in the 5cm area in the thorax region. If this part is not covered by his arms, which must be free to protect himself at all times were he to collapse, then do NOT apply said tackle Fourth - Once all preconditions are met (and assuming the gentleman has not scurried 100m away for a goal) please feel free to apply said tackle
  15. "Official" Deez mailout has Bate at FUF, Petter on the wing, Warnock at FUB, Maric at forward pocket! All straight in! Also feel better about having a key fwd at a key position - sick of seeing Sylvia/ Jurrah - ain't working! Same with our midfield - named Syvlia, Grimey and Trengove in there - Jonesy back to the flank = much better! Martin rightfully dropped - was deplorable last week, when it was a big man's time to shine in any pack marking situation - same with Morton Juice may have to come in purely for ruck stocks - Dunn in the ruck??? rather have Jurrahcane!
  16. Can we all agree that we got rid of the right draft pick from his year, ie Brock? Christ what a non-factor he's been - imagine the pasting he'd be copping from this site right now! That being said - wish we'd got a Kennedy for it... Surely WCE/ Bombers have too many big men to accommodate them all (and we *desperately* need) and we have youngsters to spare! ie Lynch/ Kennedy/ Darling/ Ryder/ Hille/ Pears, etc - give ya a Morton/ Strauss/ Blease!
  17. 1. Davey/ Jurrah - Davey: love the wormburning 20m chest-seekers; the back-arching out of the backline with 5 bounces; the side-steps - BOTH - love the silky skills. JurrahCane:love the packriding (esp over own teammates, Smitty did the same to Lyon!), self-belief in goal-scoring and the sense of everything-will-happen whenever the ball comes over the 50m line 2. Allen Jakovich - sitting in my office right now with a blockmounted autographed picture of the man! Was the first enigmatic full forward and last of dying breed of FUF's who are not just goal-hungry, but knew it was their role to bag multiples if the team was to win (or even wanted to be remembered in the golden era of FUFs!) Part of the most exciting forward line in history! (Farmer, Lyon, Neitz, Schwarz, Stretch, Lovetts etc). Scissor-kicks, 10-goal hauls, brother-pecks, pack-marks - the man knew how to bring crowds to the game, and reeked of just enough arrogance with the ability to back it up. AJ4LIFE!
  18. i remember when i used to like him after i heard he fronted up to Van Damme after he hit on his woman then i heard him in consecutive GFs - bringing absobloodylutely nothing to the game!
  19. Agreed - i liked how he "stalled" for thinking time, while sneekily bascially checking the video replay - gutless and pure-Subi decision! same thing happened with Wonna's goal - and this is after the disgrace of Goodes kicking a fair goal straight through the middle, called a point by goal umpire - but as there were only 40 Sydney fans there, no "review" forthcoming!!
  20. Was also there last nite Deplorable... First off - just have to vent about the Subi Home Ground Umpire Advantage - can't resile from the fact that there was ELEVEN free kicks WCE before ONE was paid our way (13-3 at half time - i have no doubt they were talked to at half time, hence evening of ledger, but way too late!). Sure, its a hollow complaint, but 2 of those frees lead directly to 2 WCE goals in the 1st quarter which is when we lost it. Case in point - the very last goal. 2 WCE on 1 Dee - free kick pulled out of nowhere - but also 50m for NO reason - story of the night (will be conducting a review of frees for/ against, will no doubt show Subi crowds heavily influence in favour of home team, due to 90% being home team supporters!) Basics But as mentioned in OP, seems like the players have been coached-out of the basics! At least 3 times when a player marked, on say, the RHS of the ground, NO-ONE lead to the same side to give him an option! Basic amatuer stuff to lead to the side where the ball is when kicking into fwd 50!! Forget "leaving it open for leading fwd" - NO-ONE lead to that side of ground! This also applies to quick kicks out of scrummages - ALL the WCE players knew where a quick kick would potentially leak out, as they were open to mark it! Not one of our players has that nouse?? And whatever happened to MANNING-UP? THe entire first half was characterised by massive floods in the backline - kicking out - straight to unmanned WCE player! Then they'd kick it back in to mark on chest?? Made the biggest crab ever Nikoski look good! How was it possible that no-one had a man in the midfield, and still be outnumbered at every contest? Forward Line What forward line??? Always astounds me when we name Sylvia CHF, Jurrah FUF! WE NEED A PACK MARKER! Last legit one we had was Neitz! WCE had Darling, Cox, NicNat, Kennedy, Lynch!!! And that's a side that's bottomed out? If we can't hit our mosquito-fleet targets on leads, we need someone to contest! And if Stefan Martin is the answer, i don't wanna know the question! He was awful! Drafting Didn't we choose 4 key position players in the draft?? Why is Darling (pick 26!) averaging 17 possns, 2 goals playing for WCE and all of our rookies are riding pine! Seems Watts plays his best games on Subi Oval too (just sayin'!), but still wouldn't have picked NicNat (whose learning on the job includes back-pushing at EVERY contest) Coaching Never wanted to say this before, but something is wrong if you can't get the Basics right. Players must've been coached to play zone to the point of forgetting to mark their man, or anticipating where a ball should land. Fans Utter disappointment - was there the last time we won, but have now come to expect the worst after 10 on the trot. Have never left before the oppositions club song but had to get out of there - have never been so depressed after a game... and there's nothing worse than having the legit build-up we've had over past 2 years come crashing down in a 2-horse town with the biggest front-running bandwagon supporters in the world (traditionally also support Man U, Lakers, Storm, Yankees!) Still worth coming over for Queens Bday clash???
  21. i'm going with The Tank/ Tank Engine!
  22. what the hell just happened!! No mercy - Jamar is All-Australian playing on a broomstick, and every ruck tap goes to them??? How the hell did they have 3 players to every ball, including on the RARE occasions it went up forward?? 2 disgraceful free kicks gave Hawks a massive spark, but for Tapscott to be nearly our best defender is telling, and also, a disgrace! (as i thought this, kicked it straight to Buddy in goal square?!?) Seemed our best footy happens when we play our game - which is possession footy and kicking to targets - but when that goes slightly awry, prepare for a holocaust! Davey was a key back line setter-upper last year when we're at our best, but was nowhere to be seen; Watts, still actively defying expectations; Jetta, weak marking effort another game-turner; Dunn - just fn lift!!; every single 50/50 ball went Hawks way... Forward line needs some structure - Green should be the key, but just isn't getting delivery/ consistent enough Make no mistake - for us to play at our best, we're the type of team that NEEDS our best out there EVERY week! Need: Bate, Gysberts, McKenzie, Scully, Morton, Macdonald, Wonners, Strauss, Blease, - geezus get Howe in there to sit on someone's head! We could use the car! And try supporting em when you've got West Coast mates!! EMBARRASSING!!!
  23. although its a losing cause, like to point out that the Spark which awoke the Hawks came courtesy of TWO ridiculous "kick-the-goal-for-them" umpiring decisions... when the call is so bad, no-one ever sees a replay, you know its [censored]! Then Jamar gets pinged twice for doing his job against a fn failure of an AFL footballer masquerading in the ruck - Hale & Disgrace! Those 2 "gimme-goals" really got the wind up their sails But at end of the day - GET A MAN FFS!!!!
  24. I agree - Watts played his best games floating around the ground, getting his confidence up by gathering multiple possessions and kicking long. His pre-AFL footage showed he was a strong pack mark and dead-eye kick on goal - but again, playing on 17yos! That being said, i'd say he's streaks ahead at this stage of his career than the other 'developmental player' who some argued we shoulda got, NicNat! Howe looks to be X-Factor - correct me if im wrong but he was playing in TFL, ie on grown men? Better value, and will be better prepared for an AFL season than Watts was, ala Trengove But yeah, it doesn't seem the FD are really showing much confidence in our current structure... What The Hell is going on with reports they are now looking at Ash "WAFL King" Hansen?!? Obviously they think we are one extra tall short, but gimme a break - neither Hale nor Hansen could even crack a game in the Kangas/ Worst Team In The AFL, and now we wanna bring that type of shite into our emerging squad? [censored] please! All we really need is another ruck to make his mark, so Jamar can have a rest/ be tall target - was a good pack mark at FF, but i guess can't really be the long term answer...hopefully the rooks develop quick OR an actual key position player of some quality (as opposed to being Best Of Whats Left!) becomes available
