  1. Cant see getting Thompson as a smart move by Goodwin. Rightly or wrongly could seem like a sweet retirement journey for one of his mates. His best is well behind him and could also irritate a number of Melbourne supporters who were annoyed at his departure in the initial instance. Would expect an aspiring coach to be way smarter than this. Where is the upside? IMO would be an unnecessary , poorly executed, first move, should it eventuate. Lets hope it doesn't
  2. Fascinating all of this . Is it really about 'the go home " factor I wonder? Lets say Melbourne have decent carrot on the table say $1.3 mill+ on the table for 5 years p.a . Freo are going to have to cough up plenty for the kid from GWS , have Fyffe on plenty and whilst I realise Pavlich is done , $1.3 +p.a is putting an awful lot of eggs in one basket on the edge of pretty much a total rebuild which clearly faces Jesse Doesn't seem to make a lot of sense for either Freo or Hogan. Weagles have Kennedy and Darling and cant see how that would work either. Hawks no go, ( no cap) ditto Swans and Geelong, Adelaide ok for key forwards. Bulldogs after Cloke, ( doubt if they would have cap room). GWS ok for forwards. Saints ok for forwards which essentially leaves Port, Collingwood or ourselves for a finals run, maybe Carlton but that's a longshot. If it was me with our young list its a no brainer, for some reason though I sense Collingwood although they have Moore and nothing much to offer with Port the dark hose. Hope he sticks would just seem the most sensible and best option for him. . \
  3. I think he's a useful character to have about the place. Taken some seriously good marks this year.
  4. We have a young team with 10 wins. IMO we need an A grade leader wanting to take his career to the next level.
  5. PJ had a huge briefcase at Swans game up in Sydney.
  6. Might also have something to do with a no DH policy. May one or two on here are unfamiliar with that.
  7. IMO Carlton really did their homework on some of our losses in preparation for the game. Looked like they watched the Swans game and how hard their midfield hit us and highlighted our deficiencies in that area. Our midfield was no where near strong enough that day . Looked like they also watched the St.Kilda games where Max's influence was dinted ( third man up etc) Seemed to me they really took us on with a fierce ''swans like'' attack at the footy early and we fell back into bad, stepping back ,watching and non involvement habits. Just wished we had a Selwood to stop the rot after the first two goals but nup, the goals just kept coming. Terrible from those involved at the early centre bounces and glad we have Geelong this week to focus on them again. All very well to say we did ok against Hawthorn/Port Adelaide ,but you have to show up every week, particularly in such an important game.
  8. There are a lot of people around who have tried to lift us but for one reason or another , unfortunately it didn't work. To those in this bracket, I say thanks. Better to have tried, than not tried and the way I see it , that's way more than I or many others have done. Sometimes you have to have stepping stones to good times.
  9. If true, very wise of our club not to entertain these sort of dollars with what we have to deal with. Thought it interesting as well, that Jon Anderson made a connection between ourselves and Hurley just to digress.
  10. According to Foxtel tonight The Hurley issue is likely to be fought out by Bulldogs ( cant be much left in the bank after he and Boyd) and Essendon who have apparently upped their offer, Suits me. I'm in the lock up Hoges and Tmc camp. Whilst you are at it Santa could you please do the same for Petracca ,Brayshaw,Tyson,Stretch and Hunt.
  11. No free kick paid for the incident and Weiderman's was missed by the on the spot umpire as well. Meanwhile they had no difficulty in paying the Hawks forward frees or a 50 metre penalty that was dodgy and also resulted in a goal for the Hawks. IMO credibility completely shot and after this surely shouldn't get Hawks in the finals. Too much at stake.
  12. Serious? You're joking right? He's still a kid. Added to that side and playing well , we could kick some scary numbers.
  13. Eventually got home. Well done to all those who managed the magical mystery tour on the Lilydale and Belgrave lines. Probably cost quite a few extra patrons. Was initially happy to be there to see the Weeds first goal, but Big Max was in a world of his own. Just got better and better, the combined midfield effort was relentless. Viney. Jonesy,Tyson and Oliver fantastic. Reckon we should have won by more as we had a couple of real clangers. Just a great day at the footy.
  14. Need some goal kickers next week . When was the last time 9 goals was enough to beat Hawthorn.
  15. Winning ugly beats the other option (like last week and also Norf ). Message might have got through this week). The whole matter of Hogan needs addressing.
  16. I'm a Grimey fan he just keeps on putting in. Feel sorry for him. 1st in if we get done tomorrow.
  17. Well done Dawsy. Haters gunna hate.
  18. Reckon goal kicking is a bit like batting at cricket. If you get to 90 and don't make a hundred , you feel very [censored] off. You get to 40 metres and miss at football it should equal the same felling ,but sadly in footy you might reckon if the next chance is just around the corner you can fix. Wrong , trust me. When you get to 40 , best you just get it done.
  19. Just seems to me that maybe they want to put a totally unbeatable offer to Hoges and want to keep Tmac too ,because with the both of them in the pocket we are on the rise for sure. However if Toms gone crazy by way of demands it complicates . Interesting sort of situation. Hope Hoges and Tom sit down and have a coffee together one day and sort things out. Could be a truly great outcome for a lot of people.
  20. Well done Tom. 100 games at 23 in a key position and you do it very well . You smash pre season, you show composure and leadership and you'll only get better. Thankyoufor your efforts so far.
  21. Interesting. The good sides have blokes like Franklin, Rioli, Dangerfield ,Selwood and co. who just take matters into their own hands and get the job done in certain circumstances and it stamps them from the rest. Carey and a few others used to do it too. After many years without such personnel, hoping that instead of lowering his head, Hogan just does what's required to get to this happening, knocks them out of the way, belts them ,whatever, Petracca as well and I'll throw in Oliver and Viney too. I think these now are the people to carry us forward. These four have the talent to do things a bit differently for us , learn to hate defeat and without any data too support this notion, I still reckon it will start happening before too long.
  22. Flippant reply from umpires advisor Hadyn Kennedy re decisions against Dom Tyson and Max Gawn truly amaze me. Afraid I didn't see either decision that way. Further to wave away WA crowd influence on decisions mind blowing. The deliberate rule in slippery conditions should applied with caution surely. Imo they weren't and outcome in game was significant.
  23. Don't believe you wish we would just fold but can understand your frustration and share it. In simplistic form the notion that top clubs can adopt the simplest "anti Robin Hood" strategies by robbing the poor to stay rich is stupid. But don't think to say we will never get there is right. Sure, the way it is ,with clearly inadequate compensation makes success more difficult but it will in the end make it so much sweeter. I believe we have improved, our playing group and coaching staff are really trying. As Roos said when he arrived, we started a mile back and it will take time. However it is happening albeit slowly.
