Congratulations Jack. Had the great pleasure of attending games at the ‘G and seeing your Dad play and later captain the side. Not so much of your good self. Living in the periphery at Darwin. But l do strongly recall the first time at Marrara probably in your first season. One committed, courageous act intercepting an opposition pass with fierce determination. Where angels fear to tread. Another chip off the Viney block. Fast forward to September 2021 Preliminary Final in Perth. Max put on the show but IMM you were best on the ground. When complimented at training later in the campaign you were not only appreciative but humble to boot. Long May You Run.

Just like a Viking raid on some unsuspecting monasteries in Northumbria. Ensure the plunder includes cases of Grange Hermitage. Leave the women.

Not afraid to apply defensive physicality on his opponents. That is a desirable trait in the big league. Imagine Goody, Rick and Max on the Casey balcony last Sunday were fully cognizant. For those with leanings to “learnings” lessons is perfectly adequate. Even Simon says ‘learning’ now.

True. Box Hill were one of the better Victorian teams in the ‘VFL’ last season.

On that outing and pre-season practice match form, it appears Casey Demons have slipped from being contenders to a re-building phase. Plenty of opportunity for a relatively young list to build resilience, develop their physiques and hone their skills. Unlike some I won’t be announcing on a very limited sample, that players are not going to reach AFL standard, draft picks have been wasted or an immediate mass cull is in order. Judging by the migration of posters from threads mostly celebrating the ‘Joie de Vivre’. of recent senior team performances. Out at Casey Fields there are hectares of space for wallowing in the wintry mire of MFCSS. etc

Game Day! Andy, WJ and assorted D’landers, must have have been partying hard into the Wee hours. Celebrating the Mayblooms de-petaling. Box Hill Hawks may be a different proposition, faint echoes of the empire strikes back? As the Enterprise voyages fearlessly into the unknown. This seasons new Casey Demons are also a relatively unknown quantity with many new faces on board. Mixed with some more familiar faces. Today’s transmission from Planet Casey will soon reveal whether the blend of new and old will gel. A New Hope?

By the numbers 6 Christian Petracca 5 Max Gawn 4 Christian Salem 3 Alex Neal-Bullen 2 Tom Sparrow 1 Bayley Fritsch Honourable mentions Kysaiah Pickett Clayton Oliver Ed Langdon Blake Howes Jack Billings Trent Rivers Harrison Petty Adjudicators Has the 50 metre penalty for belated unduly rough play been jettisoned? Or is it open season to physically target the opposition’s ⭐️ players? What was once policed (albeit inconsistently), has become nothing to see here. Priority it appears is given to the next sponsor placement. Media Broadcast Watched today’s game with no commentary and an alternative soundtrack. When the Fox commentary team appeared Gerard, Dwayne, Jason et al, the Stones were pumping out “Brown Sugar”. Piggy whatever the match situation would always find a positive about the hawks. So cliche. Opposition Hyperbole watch If young Watson is the new ‘Wizard’. After an errant goal kicking performance. (One solitary goal since debut). Mediocrity it appears transcends merit. Overall comment Despite losing some key players to injury, an admirable team performance. Replacements were activated or switched. Seamlessly, not missing a beat, the Demons left the carcass of the (formerly great) hawks, bereft in the MCG dust.

joeboy - keep on punchin’ A consistent and fair appraisal overall. Goody in his presser seemed pleased that Sammy Mitchell persisted with his master tagger. Just leaves the hawks one short offensively at the centre bounces and ball ups. The Demon onball collective appeared to enjoy an even team orientated performance. Clayton Oliver contributed manfully with 23 possessions despite quote ‘couldn’t shake opponent’ and being the focus of some extracurricular physical attention. With 14 disposals in the Round 23 clash last season that triplet would fit. Given the coach’s tactical response and the fact that #13 had an over 60% improvement in possessions this time. Oliver - cunning plan gazumped Ed watch 26 disposals at 76.9% DE 4 tackles at 92% ToG%. Langdon - kicks klicks quick Young Caleb’s GPS data must be impressive considering his youth. Great addition to the Winger’s club. Windsor - has the tank

Off course will bow to your local knowledge SB.

Overall A pleasing result on many levels. However one win does not maketh a season.

joeboy; add some pizzazz! Ok solid overall with very little to disagree about. Ed Langdon must be the new whipping boy out on the Canterbury line. 18 disciplined disposals at 88%+ DE makes him a solid team contributor.

Given our strong connections as being the pioneers of inducting Irish footballers to Australian Rules. May fond memories of Jimmy Stynes, Sean Wight (hon) et al, be celebrated with your favourite tipple Jamiesons, Guinness, Beamish or Bewley's Irish Breakfast. 🤞 for luck of the Irish. Saint Patrick's Day 🍀 at the 'G Demon's win.

All good ET! l’d rather be in the ice cream cake shop than swept past it.

MONIZZ with the XX appellation. Is that the footy equivalent to the Ford Falcon XB GT?

Picket that would be awesome. I’m looking for a four leaf clover 🍀. Should be safe Saint Pat banned the slitherers.

What do people expect we're not talking about a tiddlywinks tournament. Aussie rules is a contact sport and can be quite brutal at times. Harrison's serious foot injury was a result of a 100kg defender's awkwardness, loss of balance or lack of care? Falling impactfully on his lower limbs. Theo should add 'kick' to his moniker but then a well executed dropkick was a thing of beauty to behold.

Tardis obviously needs a fine tune. Saturday's encounter is against the Piranha Park Lions!
-
A decent mix of promising youth and sage experience out at Casey Fields Saturday PM. Obviously the last encounter between these teams was heavily skewed the dogs way due to ‘selection issues’. Expect a more closely fought encounter this time. Given the matinee time slot, Roan Steele should get the casting call to appear in a leading role on the rehearsal sound stage.

To be Frank, DeeSpencer NO. Not unless you're dabbling in some hitherto unrevealed black arts. But on a positive note David Schwartz has miraculously been resurrected at SEN.

#39 Koltyn Tholstrup #39 as expected with higher numbers is rather transitory. Either the temporary holder of the number gains a toehold and moves up the pecking order. Or gets short shrift and is speedily delisted. The exception to the rule, was Neville Jetta whose name became eponymous with the jumper. Neville played a record 159 games in the guernsey for the Demons. Like a quality red maturating with age, Neville became a top AFL small defender, who exemplified courage and determination. Of those who moved on to succeed. Gerard Healy would be a name most would recognise. His early promise was soon rewarded with elevation to the #3 guernsey and in time recognition as club best and fairest with the ‘84 Bluey. Lured to the Sydney Swans by a big contract offer. Healy continued his ascension to football immortality with the 1988 Brownlow medal. George Lakes was another who showed promise in #39 moving on up to #9. George was of Greek descent, his father having anglicised the family name. Recruited from Broken Hill as a gun recruit by Jim Cardwell Melbourne Club Secretary for the start of 1968 season. (JC was synonymous with the golden age dynasty of the 50’s to early 60’s). I recall George as a very skilful centreman in John Beckwith’s coached teams of the later ‘60’s. Unfortunately injury and form lapses meant his promise was unfulfilled. Russell Colcott flipped the other side of the #39 coin. A forward sans well developed mop of hair with a spectacular leap. Competing against the likes of Ross Dillon and Ray Carr. With Tiger Ridley wielding a pair of scissors list deletion was inevitable. He later joined Big Bob Johnson at Oakleigh in the VFA. Where he flourished on Sundays. In a more tolerant environment, taking some big speccies. Austin Wonaeamirri was a glimmer of hope for the Demon faithful in a barren period for the club. His staring role during his debut season. In the magical comeback win against the Dockers in round 7 2008. Is of course the stuff of legends. Sadly Jim Stynes then Club President and Dean Bailey Coach. Who were closely associated with the early (albeit short lived) success of indigenous players from remote NT communities. Are no longer with us. Austin kicked four fabulously celebrated goals and was nominated as a rising star. Circumstances unfortunately, did not allow Austin Wonaeamirri or Liam Jurrah continued sustained success. But as a comet suddenly appears in the night sky and burns so brightly but briefly. Cameos not to be soon forgotten.

Demonland has a Job Vacancy for a Resident Optimist. Catharsis seekers and flagellants need only apply.

Would like to know the body weight too. Gives an idea of the physical stature of the player. Newton’s laws of the motion can’t be applied without the mass. Maybe the people who are running ‘the show’ should supply sideshow mirrors.
