  1. As LaDeevina already pointed out, Jones did the shutdown role on Bob Murphy in our win.

He also did a very succesful shutdown on an in-form Corey Enright down at the Cattery in that win.

If he's given a role, he can play it well. If he plays as just another midfield rotation, he doesnt have enough skill

to be effective enough to justify his spot, I'd rather see ANB or similar take it.

    He's a keeper for mine.

So he played an important role in a third of our wins. Not bad. Be nice to have him available to cover Murphy again next season.

  2. Terlich has to go irrespective of contract.

Matt Jones gave us nothing last year.

I would give hunt one year but rookie him and see what he can give us with an injury free preseason.

Harmes is a given to be promoted to senior list.

Michie has shown he is a good VFL player, but the penny hasn't quite dropped at AFL level.

I disagree with all of the above bar one.

Mat Jones contributed last year, indeed wasn't he was a crucial element in of our wins IIRC (though i can't remember which one) with a shut down job on a key hb playmaker? If so he was factor in one of our 6 wins. He provided run and carry, did his job and covered the loss of injured players. That adds up to more than nothing. Not sure of his contract status but if he is contracted i can't see how you could rookie him. Pay him out then pay him a rookie sapary? He'd probably take that.

Michie was among our best in the last 3 games, partic against Carlton. He makes good decisions, is quick and a good, penetrating kick. The penny has dropped.

Terlich stays and is good depth. No harm in keeping him given we are unlikely to pick up a delisted player. Besides we should honour contracts if we expect our players to.

    Yep, promote Harms.

  3. Cheers man , appreciate it

My apologies. On reflection my comment was much harsher than I intended. And given I know SFA about juniors more than a little hypocritical.

I think parish is a stone cold certainty at 3, not because I know anything about him but because of the signals coming from the club.

As for pick 7 from JMs comments you'd think a forward might be on the cards but I still think they are desperate for mids. Sure to be someone who is super competitive, which makes me wonder about curow. He (and others) describes himself as cruisy. Doesn't mean he isn't fierce but makes me think more garlo stoner than viney tiger

  4. And uses OUR pick 25...

    Fmd we're clueless by comparison.

Hadn't read this thread at all so when i opened landed way back on the 15th October. Clueless? Is that same club that trumped the bombers to jump ahead of them in the draft and get pick 3 (and 7 to boot), i imagine much to their immense frustration.

  5. Nah, screwing up top 5 picks are the true moments of pain and frustration.

Tambling is worse than Toumpas; we could have eked out 150 games out of Jimmy.

The pain comes in the opportunity cost. And Wines is excellent, but the Tigers had a chance to set themselves up for a decade and chose a very good HBF and mediocre wingman. Hawthorn chose two bookends and the rest of awful history that we are still living.

Ok i concede the tiges take the prize for missing a once in a generation player for a once a year one.

But surely we deserve a prize for sustained excellence in recruiting blunders. Sort of a lifetime achievement thing. The Barry award.

  6. That GWS list of missing is down right scary.

They will make the 8 depending upon injuries. Everyone of those players apart from Steele would be a starter in their best 22.

    Melbourne:
Missing: Tyson, Vanders, Kent, Jetta, Frost, Pedersen, Dawes, Watts, Lumumba, Petracca, Trengove*

Our list of outs is also pretty scary. You could make a strong case that all 11 of them are in our best 22.

  7. There is zero chance Schache slips past Brisbane. They are crying out for a tall forward and he actually wants to play for them.

If they did pass on him it would be the worst drafting blunder.

The worst drafting blunder? I think the dees has a lock on that prize

  8. Most of it's been covered, but here are the points:

    - Not counted as part of the list for the purpose of player numbers (ie he's not one of the 44 listed players).

    - His wages are not counted in our salary cap.

    - We have him for an initial contract of 2 years. If we like him we can then add him to our Rookie list for a further two years.

    - The same rules apply for upgrading him as for any other Rookie.

To qualify as a Category B Rookie a player can not have been a part of any Aussie Rules List for three years (pretty sure that's the limit) and I think they have to be playing another sport at the elite level. Playing Basketball for Australia obviously qualifies him. Blicavs at Geelong was trying out for the Olympic track and field team as a steeplechaser when he signed with them. There was a bit of talk earlier this year that Alex Keath wanted to get back into AFL. This is the route he would be taking as well, and I think he'd have his pick of pretty much every club in Victoria if he decides to do it.

So basically we get to sign him outside the drafting system, pay him whatever we like and he doesn't cost us anything in terms of salary cap or list composition for two years while we train him up and see if he can really play.

By that criteria I have to admit there is little chance I will be selected as a Category B rookie. Bummer. Would have been quite the story.

  9. .... and injuries. Lots of 'em. Petracca, Trengove, Frost, Salem, Viney, Pedersen, Kent all missed (big) slabs of the season (or most of it). Even having a player like ANB miss most of the pre-season didn't help.

OK, injuries are part of the game, but we don't have the depth to cover the above outs.

Could not agree more. Add jetta to that list as well. It would be great to have a lucky year injury wise next year. Starting with a healthy track, trenners and Kent

  10. What utter tripe. You'd be the same kind of muppet that says you are doing 1km over the spped limit you deserve a $380 fine

    Thanks for the insult.

So you think being a bit over the limit is no big deal? Where do you draw the line on drink driving 0.08, 0.09 or perhaps 0.10?

How on earth could you argue the bit from my post is tripe? Are you honestly saying that someone who is 0.06 is not impaired, not affected by alcohol? Is that what you're saying?

With your speeding analogy you're also implying that you don't really deserve a penalty for being just a little bit over? You really believe that?

Note i didn't say drunk, i said impaired. The difference between life and death in some accidents might be literally a split second reaction time. Any impairment might impact on that reaction time. That's why we have a limit. It is a serious offence to go over, far more serious and much more likely to be a factor in an innocent person being hurt than some bozo taking a line of coke in Vegas.

  11. By the by pro dee I'm with you on king. Going forward I reckon he will be crucial player. I remember thinking when he kicked a goal in his one and only nab game in 2014 that he had something. Quite agile for a big fella

  12. I particularly liked these two lines from Nathan Schmook (in his verdict):

"...The Demons used the incoming points to perfection to gain picks 3 and 7...They read the play quicker than other clubs."

An important element in this play was getting the melk. Some on dl think we paid covers and some said we went to early and should have waited to drive the price up.

But getting it done early was critical as it didn't hold up other trades and indeed it gave ESS some currency to get their trades moving. In the end it mattered little if we gave up 25 or 29.

Also we needed to ensure if we were going to angle for high draft picks that we got a player with approx the same number of games and age as howe lest we unbalance the list. In an ideal world we would also get a player who could slot into the back line to replace howe. And we wanted a tough, hard running competitor. Given all that clearly it was not overs after all. The melk perfectly fitted the bill and as required we got it done early and without fuss. Well played

    A+ for mine

  13. Agree but Hodge was just over .05, if wasn't like he was [censored].

You can be over .05 and still show minimal affects of alcohol. Can't snort a line of crack/speed ect and show no effects.

Not excusing Hodge as he broke the law, but I think most realise it was just over, if he was [censored] I'm sure he would have copped a right whack.

That's a nonsense. Over is over. He was impaired. If he had been involved in an traffic incident that required him to react his impairment might have caused an accident. If there was a fatality he would likely go to jail for manslaughter - even if the accident wasn't his fault.

Assuming Carlisle didn't drive - and there is no suggestion he did - who did he put at risk other than himself?

  14. I know nothing about future players but i have to say i would be concerned about picking up Weideman given the fact that he suffered this year from a foot fracture. Even though Jetts and Garland overcame foot fractures we have first hand experience of how difficult it can be to get back from one with Clark and Trenners.

That said i have no idea what the actual fracture was and it may not have been a navicular. Still any foot issue is a worry.

  15. it's a bit irrelevant about the out of season testing in this case

whether there was or wasn't this case would still have caused the same negative outcomes, simply because it got into the news

    Fair point.

I agree with you on the point about how he could have arrived at the brilliant idea of sending a video of himself to anyone doing a line. What a fuckknuckle. Also did i hear right that he did the line in the US? If so he's taking a pretty big risk career and life wise. A drug charge in the states would mean he might end up in jail and most certainly would never be able to travel there again.

  16. He's owned up to it, nothing will happen apart from a fine

And nor should it. Said it before and say it again the players were insane to agree to including use of illicit drugs outside of match day testing. In any case he hasn't tested positive and for all Jake and anyone else knows what he thought was coke might have been talc
