Why. Why do I have to watch Oscar spud it up every single week. And the same old atrocious forward entries, it never gets better!
-
The only thing more pathetic than Oscar is the decision to bring him back in to the side.
-
half the players on the field have 5 touches or less, it's been 1 quarter. ?♂️
-
Our 18th place decision making really compliments our 18th place skills. I haven't missed a Dees game in Melbourne for about 10 years, and I would normally feel deep shame for not going today. But today I purely see it as an investment in my mental health. ?

I've been thinking about this a bit, now we're the bottom dwellers again with little hope for the future. ? There's something about the current crop of players that just isn't as likeable/relatable/exciting/dynamic as our other squads in the last 30 years or so that I can remember. Outside of Oliver, Nev, Gawn we don't really have many iconic stand outs that all great teams have. It looked like it could be Hogan but the fans never really warmed to him, for various reasons [big sook]. It's really evident that we have this big gaping talent hole in the forward line. Where's our Jurrah, Neitz, Schwarz, Farmer, Yze, Jakovich of this era? The aerialists and the great kickers, the player that makes you stand up in anticipation when the chaos ball goes into the forward line? Jesus we are light on up there and right across the ground. I just find it hard to really get excited about this mix of players, especially the forwards. It's clear we are 5 or 6 skillful players short of being a decent contender. Hard to love a team populated with Omacs, Wagners, Spargos and others substandard project players that clearly aren't going to cut the mustard. I'm seeing young skillful dynamic A graders popping up in every team these days... and the best we can do over the last couple of years is unearth a couple of players who are 'competitive' or 'hard at it'. Need a bit more than that these days unfortunately...

No Dom Tyson? ?
-
Yep. Fritsch missed a few spoils whilst on him and Hibberd was also marking him for chunks of the game.
-
Goodwin needs to start from scratch. Our style is cooked and we are embarrassing in all facets. I've never seen so many people leave at 3 qtr time, everyone's just had enough. We'll be going back to Sunday twilight games next year and rightly so. What should be an amazing night on Wednesday will be another embarrassment. No thanks.
-
Hore for Oscar next week if Nev is back.. Oscar's height advantage means jack, he can't time a spoil at the moment anyway. Had enough chances in 2019 and going backwards, zero confidence. Hore is more nimble, a better mark and can rebound. Please Goodwin, there is no way you can justify not making this change.

Box Hill Hawks v Casey Demons - VFL Round 1
Buzzy replied to KC from Casey's topic in Melbourne Demons
Absolutely nailed the key issues. Lack of footskills mean we rarely hit a lead. Lack of aerial ability means we rarely take contested marks.. so bombing it doesn't work either. That's why I was bloody annoyed when we lost Howe. At least he was better than 50/50 with the ball in the air. When I look at the surplus of key marking/intercept players the Eagles (and many other teams have) it makes me weep for our future. -
And not pick up May to address CLEARLY the worst part of our team? Are you Oscar McDonald?
-
to be fair, the back position was always going to win that contest, especially with you being able to use hands now. Frost should have been closer to his man in the first place though.
-
This ☝️. At least Frost attacks the ball and has the athleticism to apply a second effort. Oscar can't even master the defensive basics of applying a spoil... he's off with the fairies, doesn't know whether to go for the ball in flight or body his man and ends up doing neither. It's embarrassing. You would love to play on him, you can beat him in so many different ways. We are taking the p*ss with this project and it's making us a laughing stock.

Omac and Frost: Premiership Kryptonite
Buzzy replied to At the break of Gawn's topic in Melbourne Demons
I miss Lynden, he was twice the player Oscar was. He actually wanted the ball. -
Both Wagners in? That's meant to make our side better? If Stretch can't get a game with all these outs then what is the point of having him on the list?
-
We are a poorly skilled team - going forward it hurts us double, as we can't accurately kick to advantage - or take advantage of a flying shot at goal on the run from 50.. Too many rushed hacked kicks from players like Brayshaw, Neale-Bullen, Viney etc. If I was playing against us I'd do exactly what most teams do - let us do the hard work then flood numbers back (don't even have to man up), and beat us easily on the break with pace and skill. Cue some panic from Frost, a misjudgement of flight from Omac and voila you've got yourself a sausage or 10. Against Melbourne you just sit back and wait for the kicking error. You're right though, if they beat us at all out of the middle we are stuffed. Imagine if Gawn went down this year? *shudders*
-
How was Gawn beaten by Stanley? Gawn had 53 hitouts to 27, and nearly doubled Stanley's AFL Fantasy points. Disposals were 13-14 but Gawn's were all kicks. Gawn also laid 4 tackles to 0. He wasn't at his best but that's a dominant display over an opposing ruckman.
-
You reckon he singled her out because she is a woman and therefore 'below him'? That's a big call. I don't think any of his major gaffes have been for those reasons, just dumb comments without thinking. I.E his 'old campaigner' comment to Kane Cornes... who happens to be a white male. By the way, does someone become immune from being included in a bit of light criticism over their coin tossing ability when they lose their legs? What a ridiculous beat up.
-
absolutely ridiculous call from the club at the time... not sure why HE even allowed it to happen, he could barely move!
-
We are the filthiest team going forward in the history of the game. Skill level is rubbish, it's going to cost us in plenty of games again this year, as per usual. Sloppy sh*t and painful to watch.
-
Our effort all over the ground was laughable today. When you're seeing free Port players all over the ground, it just shows a complete lack of respect and intensity from a big chunk of players. One piece of play summed it up for me: - Gray was waiting to deliver it just outside his 50. Salem loose, looked around and saw Westhoff ambing out of the goals square on his own and thought 'too big for me, I'm not taking him'. - Oscar then came over to take him, but that left Ryder on his own. - Gray kicks to Ryder, overcooks it, but Oscar decides he's going to have to take him now, Ryder just lets it go over his head but Oscar runs and jumps under the ball, completely missing it for his second embarrassing high ball misjudgement of the day. - Ball falls straight into unmarked Westhoff's hands, simple goal. As good as Salem was today, that was a p*ssweak moment from him... And Oscar... well if you're slow and non competitive when the ball hits the ground, you'd better be a bloody good spoiler and body on body player, but he's neither of those either. This is the kind of rubbish effort that will get brought up on 'On The Couch' by Garry Lyon - and so it should. Selfish and clumsy football, crap start to the year. This better not be repeated or you'll see a lot of people drop off this bandwagon.
-
3 or 4 times today Oscar has gone to ground to tackle a player already off their feet... No use to anyone down there buddy!
-
I think little finger. Compound fracture means the bone has broken the skin I believe, so I'd say minimum one month for a small bone to heal. Plates these days can help though.
-
We don't seem to have addressed our inability to lock the ball in the forward line as per last week's issues. Ground ball keep coming straight back out when our forwards can't clunk it. Maybe Brisbane has dropped a lot of numbers back but it looks too easy for them.
-
Most of the comments were based on the first quarter - and warranted. Significant improvement since then clearly.
