  1. Understand the call for Johnson not to have been included but we cannot burn out Jamar with a view to 2011/2012 let alone the remainder of this year, but would love to see Bail in. Whats the weather forecast for Sunday? Could be a change between these two. Jetta was due a spell as just not having enough impact. Jurrah - just can't wait to see him out there with Watts, Sylvia etc more often. And as for the clash situation - Staggering that the Melbourne Football Club was required to seek acceptance from the AFL that we had the right to wear OUR home guernsey at OUR home game.....what is going on here?
  2. The biggest load of tripe!! Call it outrage or whatever this is an absolute shocking double standard but a reflection also on the world today. Money and numbers talk, to hell with everyone else.
  3. The winner of this week's Demonland Missing Player of the Week award!
  4. Is it too simplistic to assume that clubs tend to drop the last few named in the initial squad? Meaning no Jurrah this week? Maybe looking at more game time at Casey? Would apply to Bail in that case wouldn't it? Rapt to see Bail back by the way and Col, would love to add Jurrah to that final side. Could be Cheney to miss considering that Bennell has been named in a BP. Would be a bit stiff though. Think Nifty Nev is due a game back at Casey to get a few more touches.
  5. Some interesting observations within this thread Rhino, hopefully your opinion on Jamar at this time, similar to your current opinion of Rivers turns out to be just as incorrect. A bit unfair and easy for me to say as I wasn't part of Demonland, probably might have had close to the same opinion! Gotta live hindsight! Where's Paul the Octopus when you need him......he can pick out the gems for us!
  6. Yeah like this one Redleg....you scared me saying that Option 5 is what we will have if nothing is done. That is a shocker!! So I am aboard your white ideas and will go with this.
  7. Agree with Chip & Col when used to compare, that's fine. Riv is actually only 25 through the remainder of this season isn't he? He will be playing as a 26 & 27 year old through his 2 year contract. I don't think that is too much of a risk even if you believe there is no improvement in him or is a fringe player. Hopefully being at an age when many footballers can play their best Riv will do the same. Regardless of what you, I or anyone else may suggest it would seem the coaches hold him in decent regard, the last coach to drop him was Daniher for the Elim Final wasn't it? (Not 100% certain on that fact)
  8. 'G' when it should be 'G or are there missing characters after the G or are you quoting someone perhaps? Oh god now I am one of those prats that pick up on other posters punctuation and spelling errors. Woe is me! Sorry Mrs Robinson.....giddy up on the high horse!
  9. So you are suggesting that Riv may not have shown loyalty if given a one year contract to prove his worth? Mackie, Milburn & Enright are certainly no stawell gift winners - the fact that Scarlett quite often becomes the re bounder from defence is proof of this for me. In big games where Geelong are tested I have seen plenty of evidence to suggest that Mackie is not that great as a one on one defender. IMO I would stick with Milburn and Enright being superb at reading the play, not running the ball. I disagree also that reading the play is of little value - wasn't it proven in Rivs formative years what an asset this can be?
  10. How are the clouds on your high horse???? Did you give yourself a rise as you wrote "your not that bright". Hopefully you popped the pill firstly to get the pure excitement from that rise. It was a fairly simple worded comment of all the knocks that Rivers gets. Unlike others that can argue the merit of the comment you of course drag it all down to a personal level. A thread about re-singing 3 loyal servants of the club again becomes one of your rants about perceived stars and making veiled judgments on others excitment at re-singing these players. Go barrack for Carlton you [censored]! You obviously have no great attachment to MFC which is clear by your nominated favourite players...what a sad time you must have watching the demons as the majority you 'just don't think are any good'. (Mods - delete as you please) Your last comment on another brilliantly put together post sums you up Hannabal.
  11. How did I know that you would pick the bones out of that Rhino? Nothing gets past you does it! Riv is struggling when one on one but there are some reasons for this as it is not his strength. His strength and at his best his ability to read the play is high class but this role is difficult when you play in a side who's defence see's far too much of the ball and quick ball too when you factor in our current ability to turn the ball over. Smart people realise we are attempting a game style similar to Geelong, when all that comes together our defence will be in a position to play off their opponent more regularly exactly as a Mackie, Milburn & Enright do now. When Geelong were not quite so good all three of these guys were not so great at direct one on one's and were scored against quickly (even Sydney managed this against them in some high profile finals) Because of Geelongs ability to keep the ball it allows their defence to zone off and man up space rather than an opponent. Riv will excel in a similar role. The 2 years he has been given is a great show of faith in him, in our game plan and direction. I've no doubt the coaching staff have exactly this in mind.
  12. Good work Redleg.....your response was good previously stating that 'we have no option but white so it is up to us to come up with the best option around these requirements'. Seeing as Cam Schwab visits Demonland quite regularly and I have no doubt many things I have read here of late have actually been taken on board by Cam and the club that it is a great thread you have started for these ideas to flow. Saying all that I like this option best of all....as far as the socks go, plain white would look awful so hope to see either red or blue which could be alternated with this one jumper depending on who our clash is with?
  13. We'll probably be around the 10-12 mark in the draft JCB.
  14. Pay your regards to Twitter updates!!! It seems that the tweet (is that what they're called) the weekend after Ricks injury was THE ONLY reliable source. Remember this is also about Garland and Riv!! Great work by the club to have signed up the four key defenders of the last month, Chip, Col, Riv and Ricky..... To all the Rivers haters...you state he isn't in the best 22? He has missed how many games so far? I would suggest that in the coaches eyes he is well and truly entrenched in the best 22 currently. I agree with some sentiments that he is struggling in some area's currently but he is a valuable asset for our club. Not sure that he would command a high draft pick but the majority of clubs would come for him if let go. He deserves a 2 year contract with this club. Well done MFC and well done Riv, Col, Ricky and Chip!!
  15. Probably right in that they have worked us out as our game style is not that difficult really. But we continue to be our own worst enemies due to decision & disposal error's and how easy we make those error's when under pressure. Young side for the most part still will do this, need more game time and confidence in each other. I've been a bit critical about Bailey and can't say that I have seen much evidence yet of a defensive/hold the ball type mentality that could help in early stages or other periods where we just can't get the ball but I've come around in some part. I understand the reasons that we continue to play OUR way or at least taught our way. Because when we do make better and surer decisions and are clean with our disposal more consistently we will hopefully be pretty difficult to stop regardless of opposition pressure or plans. Need to have full confidence in each other as Geelong have the last 4-5 years. They don't play much of a plan B or defensive style.
  16. Didn't realise that Martin could still receive votes? I agree with your 5 names if that's the case. Going to be a tight race between them. All 5 looking like guns for a long time.
  17. Yes 64 premiers and then no finals until 87.....a magic run until..... *anyway* 2012 Premiers I say! 12 + 1 = 13th Flag!
  18. Whoa!! Name some names! But agree that anyone on here sticking boots into Cam Bruce should indeed show some loyalty. Way over the top for anyone to assume he wants out though. Didn't hear Sheahan on 3AW, what was said in relation to Bruce? I couldn't see Bruce seeking GC out but likely to be the other way? All things considered the club if compensated correctly would do well out of it if Bruce wanted to go. Considering his age and where we are as a club and a probable decent draft pick how could it not be satisfactory to all parties? Doesn't take away from any loyalty though but also IMO is unlikely.
  19. YYYEEEESSSS!!!! Some genuine marking ability and excitment. Gee I'd like to see Jurrah, Sylvia and Bail all come into the forward line this week but happy to see Jurrah back!! Like the comment from Bailey "Bailey said having Jurrah, Sylvia and Jack Watts all in the same side for the first time would make for a vastly improved Melbourne forward line. “He [Watts] is a really important part of our forward line. Unfortunately this year Liam Jurrah hasn’t played with Jack Watts, he hasn’t played with Colin Sylvia in too many games either. That’s just because of injuries during the year,” he said. “He does provide some excitement and it will be good to see those three blokes working well together in the forward line. NOTE to the author Luke Holmesby - Casey actually beat Werribee!
  20. I would like to think we can finish above the bottom four and I would be pretty happy with that progression. I'm not sure that we will win anything more than 2 which would be disappointing. I say this because other than interstate sides and Richmond we still can't beat any other Victorian teams. A win this weekend would improve this situation. I reckon we can do it and our best this season has proven that. Just not sure right now.
  21. If it has to be I guess it is option 6. And I am sorry to harp on especially in light of the OP attempting to draw away from the argument but when discussing clash strips it is damn hard to hold one's tongue, especially when it comes to the AFL demanding things of some clubs but not others. On the week of our first home game against Essendon in some time it is an apt time to state this because what will they be wearing this Sunday? To me they are the only clear clash where I have difficulty distinguishing apart. I would go as far as to say that ESS/MELB is close to the biggest clash of all, yet Essendon are required to do absolutely naught about it. Can the AFL not throw any sort of bone and at least let us and others come up with variations to approve? What was wrong with the red clash anyway....sorry to hijack redleg but it frustrates me no end.
  22. They have mooted a trade for Scully and Trengove for Nath Ablett & Daniel Harris, we need another dud forward for Casey to have a goal line of Miller, Ablett, Netwon - sorry that's far too harsh on Miller & Juice!. They deemed that Harris would fit in well to slow down our accent up the ladder also! Apparently they knocked back Gysberts because they would be inundated with far too many nicknames to use - Matty Bate was also overlooked for this reason.
  23. I have already started the Essendon - OUR game for 2010 thread. Apologies that I am starting another one on the same game but it has come to my attention that this Sunday, Essendon are celebrating their 2000 premiership win. I am not sure that this means a great deal to the players as beside Green we don't actually have anyone else left who played in that Grand Final do we? (Playing this week I mean - I am aware we had Junior and Bruce around, Bruce didnt play and Junior is not playing this week). Of course we can never make up for that loss but we can certainly put a downer on the night for them if we can get up on Sunday. I can say with all honestly that I have a very strong dislike for Essendon more than any other club and would love to get something over them for once. How much pain have they caused us? Bashing the kids in 2000, that win over us when we were up by 8 goals at 3 qtr time, the Matthew Lloyd dive to get two kicks at goal and cost us the game - poor Nicho! Should I go on?! It is quite clear there is little respect for us from Essendon and it is well overdue that we inflict some pain on them. Sure the players of 2000 will still have a good night but the players of today will be hurting even more seeing them celebrate while nursing a bad loss to the Dees on the same day!! Cmon Demons!!!!!
  24. Surely we can afford something better for the end of season trip this year?!
  25. Well said JC. No doubt this year has seen a massive improvement in communication from the club. In past years you could go to the site and the same info was there through each day of the week, nothing added until teams and the obvious game previews. Now there seems to be something new added daily which in turn makes one return each day to see what is new. Great work
