The common thread between 20 of the last 21 Premiers
Demon17 replied to Bring-Back-Powell's topic in Melbourne Demons
I like it. And the overall season stat I like is that each week, 8 of the 9 winning teams had better accuracy, (kicking more goals than points) than the loser. Kick more gaols than points and 8 out of 9 chances sees a win. The finals this weekend panned out that way, unless it was a demolition job like Port and Dees delivered . Swans kick 2.7 in the last 1/4. Losing the unlosable. MY major worry that will kill our chances, unless we flat out swamp the oppositon with scoring chances like we did in the 2nd 1/4. -
And he has the aerobic capacity as good or better than Alir who must follow him. If Smith goes out he maintains some running and height for the team. Too good a footy IQ IMO, but will dpend on his back over next 2 weeks

Excellent call on Hunt and the nature of the change. Hunt is good above his head as well as fast. I fear not having him on the big slightly longer but narrower Oval if he's fit enough. Kardinia is slightly longer by 5 (Meteres) but much narrower (by 15 metres). This will suit Hunts speed against the Cats say. He was key to the initial defensive strategy so should fit right back in. I fear for Smiths place. Again on Saturday he flew against May and Petty a few times, but thats not his role. Those guys have that covered. But he's more versatile than Hibberd. Bowey would be stiff, but like Tomlinson, Jordan and others he will have an excellent career with the Dees from 2022.

My thoughts on a flag unfurling is a joint effort by which would compensate are: RDB, Neil Daniher and Jim Stynes Widow, Sam. First game at the G next year. I'm resigned to missing the GF now, but looking forward to the above in 2022. I know this is mozzing us but I can dream can't I?

If this happens he will be a premiership player

and when tackling, not a hair out of place with the best head of hair in the AFL.

When you see it in real time and live, as I did watching the game, my immediate subconscious reaction - tha's a week out. All other angles and footage and commentary by the media is just spin. Its amazing how many in themedia/past player cohort just sit on the fence on this and don't do their media role objectively - as Nick reiwoldt does (a real media asset on Kayo IMO) On the Cats, I agree Lucifer with you that the cats can be rolled by us for sure in two weeks. Mainly because I just can't see our defence weakening in any area. My main conern going into finals was the GWS midfield. May now not eventuate

Spago played 2018 finals series - and not too bad either. Ed Langdon was first finalist.
-
And Razor put his hand out low and Gus responded from memory. Ray 'gets ' the game.
-
Kane cornes correctly mentioned this morning that Ports small fowards will trouble us at ground level. I agree and think joel smith isn't yet a lock in defence for this reason. I would feel more secure if hunt can come back

An AA bench. But smart of goody. May didn't like it but its a back handed compliment to one of our flag keys.
-
WAS their best defender. He's no longer AA for a reason.
-
TMac took their best defender out of the frame in Marcus Adams. Did his job and can improve.
-
Great call. An earlier poster nailed it in 3 too - "high IQ player". You can't have too many of them I reckon.
-
jake Lever nevers comes off. He wouldn't know where the bench was.
-
This will be a common, and not unreasonable comment, during the game. Very worried we don't have Hibberd
-
Win tonight and we face Cats or Giants in Prelim. Now either of those would also make me sick in the guts.

I don't see this thread as a'pile on' on Toby. There's been plenty of incidentals and theyv'e been treated correctly fine-wise. This act just goes too far. But I guess a preipheral vision expert will get him off somehow - a la Greg Willaims in the 90's was attempting to do. Toby was way worse than Williams who had an umpire in his face and personal space at the time.
-
If no suspension for that 'forceful' contact , then AFL just needs to cancel rule. Petulant act by Greene. He just seems to never learn on these sorts of issues. I wish he was in the red blue all the same.

Great Post Pollyanna. Thats a substantial age difference. The interesting stat I reckon is we have 10 players to their 5 with 100 to 150. I suspect these are the Olivers, Tracs , Langdon, Lever, Hunt, Brayshaw etc .. Which are now young but experieneced . c..f. Lions. Could be an advantage, or at least a very bright future for the Dees in what is a 5 year journey starting tonight towards a Flag. We will win inside this upcoming window. I suspect it will be next year, but hope I am wrong. Port is being oversold today, with the media ignoring the clear warning signs in the Cats list. Cats were my big worry - but not anymore.

I agree here , a good call WWS. Despite it being " all about Ray" as an umpiring fraternity member described him to me, we both agreed he's top class and I'm personally relieved he's on the panel tonight. The low high five to Gus against the doggies in 2018 at the G was classic Ray . He understands the feel of the game - unlike the umpire who paid OOB against Gus last week, and who is also on the Panel. All strength to Ray tonight I reckon.
-
True but we've made an art from of losing these and then just winning the ball back.
-
Geelongs midfield has been clinically dismantled tonight. I cannot believe the stats at 1/2 time. Danger 9 Selwood 10 Guthrie 10 Stanley 5
-
Not necessarily. We are witnessing the demise of Geelong as a top 4 threat tonight into the future. We would have done the same . Port should be doing well against a much weaker cats.

Good call. Salem get's in, so does Langdon, Fritsch maybe. Rivers possibly, Just rapt theat Steven May has AA Full Back now on his CV.
