  1. I've never been a Rivers fan, Monocc. Lacks pace and athleticism.

I'd prefer us to recruit and/or develop young players with these qualities than get the same old same old from Rivers year after year.

I just wonder whether he's going to be content to play games at Casey when he might get better opportunities elsewhere.

Super double Nah - Sorry but not convinced on the logic of this at all.

Yes lacks pace, more than compensates with footy smarts and courage - while not a Fletcher or Scarlett has that same sort of drive to win at any cost, and flies the flag for the team (remember the Essendon game this year and his ripped jumper).

And because he has never relied on pace as his weapon he doesn't fall off the perch so quick, he will always be a smart footballer, so worth keeping a few more seasons. I like that we've had a good back line its not the thing that needs fixing (except for kick-ins, someone for that role would make me happy as I have heart attacks nearly everytime I watch vision)

  2. Daft not to retain Rivers, he has excellent ball sense when fit and contests everything to him close unlike many. And I don't get all the love for Cook, it doe's not make sense to me that he hasn't been given a chance yet there must be some story to that. Jurrah is pending that one is simple. Everyone else - fair enough, patches of form are no guarantee all though I accept that Blease has more potential than most.

But right now, I do not see 2013 as any different to this year - closer margins and team effort is where I have set my expectations.

  3. Hi Ingen

Are you in Kenya following Dees?

yes I am, it's a misery though, cos some doofus cut the fibre cable and the net has been to slow for streaming ever since. Followed it today (its still Sunday here) on lie score updates while travelling through Lewa Downs (I brought my mother over for her 70th and have been spoiling her with some Safari's). was bloody close but I got pipped i think.

  4. Could people please refrain from any criticism or animosity towards members of the media.

It might lead them to saying nasty things about our club in return.

    Thank you.

chuckle, will tell at least one of them to their face when back in OZ, though instead of idiot I'll probably shirk and just say goose as Walls has been polite in person...but for sure a goose.

  5. A short post because its not Demons - but Walls is a goose a'la Sheehan and Robbo. Stupid article to say the cats had no chance. Malthouse was also wrong when he said they wouldn't play finals. I see Geelong and Swans in the grand final. Why the age gives the man inches is beyond me.

  6. He forgot:

    * The amount of journalists reporting on AFL far outweighs those reporting on Australian politics. More quantity = less quality.

    * The journalists ready & willing to insert themselves into the headlines by editorializing news stories.

    * Journalists making news stories based on what they or other journalists say.

    * Journalists blatantly taking [censored] out of context.

    * Journalists reporting on the gossip of the game & not what happens on the field. Caro being AFL-drip fed the North to the Gold Coast story in 07 & then her blatant anti-Brayshaw agenda since is a fine illustration of this.

    * The amount of bias being inserted into the AFL commentariat - I don't even know who you are Andy Maher so I couldn't care less that you're a passionate Blue. Whatever happened to impartiality?

I could go on, but it seems that Ro-Ro (hes a Bombers fan don't ya know?) has missed giving the AFL a whack for handing out so many media passes to nuffies who have NFI.

ace post - I reckon the journos actually harm the game with their nit picking, they make everyone feel the need to be beige, will never see another Whaco Jacko

  7. Considering what has happened at Essendon can we calm the F@7& down? Change is coming, we are crap, but the club is not standing still, they are working towards fixing the list. Neeld made it clear there will be big list changes this year.

  8. TJ was a Rolls Royce, who I reckon we traded at the right time, he always flopped in every final, the Adelaide game included - the game is over after 4 quarters, cossetted and spoon fed at every turn he was never going to lift any further.

When he was on he was a hot knife through butter, used to frustrate the hell out of me during finals though..

  9. Unbelievable. All Australian games, including the ultra violent, collision rugby codes, have a tradition of shaking hands with players you were trying to kill. Not shaking Scully's hand would have been spineless and disgraceful.

Agree, just had a falling out with a good mate because he wouldn't look me in the eye shaking hands-its our (Australian) culture and in footy.

  10. I should acknowledge that much of my research for the article came from supermercado's excellent site Demon Wiki and Lynda Carroll's book.

I don't think Melbourne supporters are aware of the richness of the history of their club and I say that despite the fact that most of us don't like to dwell in the past.

Hopefully, when we come good on the field then more Demon fans will appreciate this.

just a small thing but she is a stickler for detail "Lynda Carroll", what amazes me is that IW-S had just finished WW1 part of a lung missing and he was 21.

  11. Am amused by the hate for Sheedy, doing his job, stirring the pot, have met him a few times and find him quite likeable and never seriously heard him diss MFC, only ever as a wind up. I loathe Essendon but never this bloke, I get rabid about Long, Lloyd and Fletcher but sheeds? I thought he bought memberships at every victorian club?

  12. The way we (posters and media) talk about players is a bit like the way that comic books are now written, there is an inflation in the adjectives used and we now have run out of words to describe players so everyone is a superstar.

NN is developing, he has rare gifts athletic and football, and he is still putting them together, so not a superstar yet, possesses the skills of one but yet to see them delivered consistently. I for one think he will cross that bridge to superstar level. The rate of development etc I don't really care about as you can see him moving forward. The Sistine Chapel wasn't done in a year, but when it was finished everyone was blown away - I'm tipping that the stucco is still drying for NN.

  13. It's not a trial. It's a committal. That means a magistrate has to decide if there's enough evidence to justify going to trial. If it goes to trial it will drag on for months. If the magistrate says not enough to warrant a trial, it's over.

Do you know if he is a co-defendant or the principal accused in this matter? And does the NT have the same contested committal process as Victoria?
