Petty the Unnoticed Crucial Cog
Never in doubt. He’s a gun. Still reckon he might be even better, or at least eventually more valuable as a forward, a la David Neitz. He’s got serious competitive edge and a great pair of hands, so who knows? I always thought when Tmac was down back that he was an obvious forward, and look how that turned out*. *(Also said the same of Harry Taylor, but I won’t mention that)

POSTGAME: Rd 17 vs Port Adelaide
I actually reckon both were legitimate free kicks for held too long. Dixon barely touched the ball before May disposed of him, and obviously too long. The Motlop ‘throw/disposess’ for the Wines goal was ‘orrible. Had prior opportunity, didn’t dispose correctly, or attempt to do so. There was another in I think the third quarter, ample opportunity, tackled, dropped it rather than dispossessed.

Excellent analogy.

Two where Motlop was the ball dropper, or thrower, and they goaled from both. Hard to bear.

Dropped 209 spots in the nationwide tipping last night………felt good. How did the ruminations end up?

Not sure I’ve seen him make a mistake all season. An outright gun, and a pure coach’s dream.

His best mark wasn’t paid, either. I almost popped a foofer valve at that point.

If that’s true, it was the best monocular half in history. He was enormous, and clearly loving his footy. Well done, Gus.

GAMEDAY: Rd 17 vs Port Adelaide
From your ruminations to their psyches, binman. Agree we’re the better team when in top form, am just worried that our best is currently hiding. If it comes out tonight, should be fun.

Having my best tipping year ever (2nd outright on Demonland, 211th of 584,687 countrywide), and haven’t tipped against us all year. Tonight I make the switch. Looking forward to my wheels falling off rather than the Dees. Go Redlegs!

Are the Demons pretenders?
Yep. The issue is how much time it’ll take at the garage….

Are the Demons pretenders?
This is the truth that some on here are failing to realise. It’s also a month of poor form, not a 1 week rubbish then back on the bus situation, it’s a dead-set slump. Look at current form across all teams and we’re bottom 6. BUT……it’s a world away from our second half against Brisbane, so it WAS a fast drop, suggesting we could also come good quickly. The current reality however, for which 12-3 means nothing, is that holding this form makes us not just top 4 unworthy, but finals unworthy. 7 weeks to come good. Here’s hoping!!! Go Dees.

Are the Demons pretenders?
Fair enough deanox, and I hope you’re right. I’m fearful our youth and lack of experience is starting to bite, however. This is perhaps the time to bring some fresher, older bods back in - BBB, AVB, Melksham, Jones if he were available. Maybe those younger guys who want to make a mark also…Bedford, Bowey, Chandler. Use the depth we’ve gained from lack of injuries.

Are the Demons pretenders?
If the form of our past 3 games (4 weeks) is our remaining season standard, then absolutely and sadly, we are pretenders. I doubt we are any chance at all of top 2 (fixture tells us this) so the challenge must now be top 4. 5th to 8th is not winning the premiership. The troubling thing is the length of this form slump, which suggests to me fatigue - mental certainly (lots of young guys) and physically arguably (lots of young guys). If it IS fatigue of either kind, we’re almost undoubtedly stuffed, and I just can’t see what else could make our last 3 games bottom 6 standard without that problem being addressed. And I sure don’t believe BBB is the difference. My greatest fear is that if we get touched up by Port on Thursday, confidence will ebb, and we go into free-fall. None of the obvious top 3 (Dogs, Cats, Lions) have shown the same week to week fragility of this 3 game run. Port ARE flat track bullies and front-runners, which makes it the perfect scenario for them on Thursday. There is no question it’s our season defining game. Lose, and there is absolutely no doubt in my MFCSS mind that we’re done.

POSTGAME: Rd 16 vs GWS
Their last 2 weeks they lost to 17th and drew with current wooden spooners. On exposed form, they most certainly are a bad team. We are worse. That’s the current reality. Our earlier wins earned us top spot, which we’ll lose this week, but our current form is somewhere bottom 6. We need to own it.

Like 2019. When our forward line was dysfunctional, as it is now, and we were losing. And once again, ‘scoring shots’ do very little if they’re not goals. Saying that they ‘could have been’ is NOT an answer. Good defence is stopping the other guys scoring goals, but it goes wasted if we don’t kick more. And simply, we aren’t.

POSTGAME: Rd 16 vs GWS
All true, but that makes us no less flaky, of which we are pretty much the definition.

POSTGAME: Rd 16 vs GWS
Agree, they played more consistently than us like they’re a ‘good’ team, but that’s their limit. They’re pushing top 8 on a good day. No real threat to better teams, of which of course we are no longer..

My 3 word player analysis V GWS
Garbage.

POSTGAME: Rd 16 vs GWS
I thought they were only marginally less horrible than us in the first quarter, but having given them a sniff, it just seemed like they thought - ‘well why not let’s try and win it’. They can be classy, but otherwise they’re a very ordinary opposition. We were just awful.

POSTGAME: Rd 16 vs GWS
Was at the game. We were comically bad. For those who’ve been defending our ability to score, I’d love to hear the next iteration of that defence. Our current form is somewhere outside the top 8. We know and have seen that we can be so much better, but we have serious issues that truly make us a finals liability. We are currently nowhere near being a contender. Other than Bailey Fritsch, and Tmac’s efforts outside the forward 50 (what one of the best drop punt kick’s for goal was doing kicking ‘around the corner’ from 30 metres out on a 45 degree angle simply has no answer), our forward line has gone from simply dysfunctional to horribly so. Also, to those who were suggesting Fritsch comes out for Brown, I seriously hope you’ve learned your lesson. And our kicking, well…..As for the rest of our game, once Tracc and Clarrie went quiet, our lack of midfield depth was badly exposed, and we offered up pretty much uncontested swill. And Jayden Hunt, who took the game on like he was trying to spark the rest, well done. You are not the problem. Ben Brown may help, but just as Hunt was not the problem today, BBB is not the answer. Once again, whilst admitting that confidence is a fragile, elusive thing, and could return, I suspect we might just be pretenders.
