COVID & AFL 2021
This. Should’ve been laying the foundations the moment it became ‘pandemic’. As a vaccine anecdote, I was quizzing a 17 year-old patient this week (2 days per-lockdown) how he would feel about getting the jab if a ‘vaccine bus’ just turned up at his school and all the kids were just marched through and injected (his mum and I had jabs administered this way in Primary school). He said he’d get it of course, then told me about his best mate who decided to go off to the Exhibition Building hub, and demand a vaccine, which he did….AZ, cos it was a quicker process. Did all the informed consent, done. I asked the boy if he was going to do likewise….he replied ‘maybe’, but his mate said it was a bit painful in the arm. 😖. As is the modern way, there’s way too much discussion of choice going on - an extension of spurious arguments for individual liberties that in this case obscure the truth that lives and deaths and the health of broader society is at play. This is not the approach we need to quell a pandemic. It’s a [censored]ing [censored] in the arm, FFS. Get it done.

COVID & AFL 2021
What is your history? Have you discussed its relevance to the AZ risk of thrombocytopenia with your doctor? If it’s a history of clotting/DVT, it’s highly unlikely that you’re any more at risk with AZ vaccine, but you’d need to ASK AN EXPERT, AND LISTEN (a behaviour in short supply these days).

And that’s not even talking about the reduction in illness/symptomatic presentation.

So true deanox. A more capable government would positively override those misinterpretations.

COVID & AFL 2021
Yep. Reduces risk of death, and even hospitalisation to something like the level of the common cold. If, and it’s an almighty ‘if’, given the level of selfish ignorance out there as fertilised by Sky News (thank you YouTube), we get to 80% vaccination and open up completely, the virus will duly run through us all, like the cold. Most of us won’t know we’ve got it or get symptoms, but we will be infectious (to varying levels). Those unvaccinated will remain of course as ‘at risk’ as they are now - fit young people can and do die from COVID. Future boosters will be mandatory (the talk is currently 6 monthly). As the months and years tick by, both treatment methods and vaccine efficacy will improve (though the virus evolve, so this remains a challenge, like flu vaccines), but the world from now until ever will simply ‘live with the virus’. It’s important for people to realise its NEVER going to go away, just like the flu, the current version of which is of course a generational relation to the ‘Spanish Flu’. I would’ve hoped a responsible, apolitical government during a crisis would start informing its people of these truths, at least to create vaccine compliance and understanding. Oh well…..

Jack Viney Suspended for 2 Weeks
Without sounding unreasonably dramatic, but it should be realised - by Jack Viney if no one else, grinding someone’s neck with your elbow right under the base of the skull is tempting injury to the vertebral artery, which can and often does cause an instant bleed to the brain. A mate of mine died 6 months ago from such a vertebral artery ‘dissection’, as did the cricketer Phil Hughes. What JV did, and deliberately, is beyond stupid.

CHANGES: Rd 21 vs West Coast
Just saw the Viney offence on AFL website. Absolutely a d***head act, however much Collins may or may not have deserved it. Will be made an example of, and he’s got no room to argue. Idiotic behaviour, and he needs to own it.
