Richmond for a shock win over Port based on the fact nobody has won the week after playing us

  2. I know it's a strange concept, but umpires are actually human and do make mistakes, much like our players, who missed several chances in front of goal. The difference is, the mistakes umpires make, quite often cost them thier jobs and future opportunities, whereas players get another game & another opportunity. Be fair folks, umpires are held to far higher standards than our players and the penalties for thier mistakes are far higher.

For example, wearing the exact same colours as us creating confusion for our players and costing us a turnover when we were 4 points down with a minute left to go.

  3. He tackles like his life depends on it. I remember a situation where a Doggie was running out of a tight contest, and McKenzie tackled and slipped, so only caught his jumper, and still managed to drag the Doggies player down. What a gun.

  4. Also said that goal umpiring decisions were correct. After discussions with all umpires if there is any doubt the smaller score shall be registered

What doubt? The goal umpire was signalling a goal.

Non-goal of the year goes to Brad Green.

  5. Played well. Kicked the goal of the year and probably took a contender for mark of the year too.

I still want to see a better 4-quarter effort, but he's getting there.

    Edited it for you.

  6. Surprised no one's mentioned the 'tripped' call on Cross late. That started the passage of play that led to Griffen's goal.

Surprise surprise, that wasn't a free kick. Cross fell over. The umpire panicked.

As Luke Darcy continally says, umpires should try to stay out of the game rather than get involved. In close games, marginal decisions should be left alone. The contact on Cross was neglible if it existed at all. Should have been left alone.

I seem to remember that as Brent Monoley getting penalised for tackling high, when the Doggies player ducked under his arm then got tackled.

That set up one of the last two.

  7. What a joke, why have goal umpires when you are not going to respect their decisions. If the goal umpire says "I didn't see it get touched" it wasn't touched.

I think that whenever there is confusion, the goal umpire's original decision is the final one. If he was unable to see it (knocked over, blind, etc.) then a video replay should come in as a last resort.

  8. The one thing that is keeping me sane is that we are going to be a very, very good team sooner rather than later. Then when the umps want to give crap calls against us it will mean a 50 point win rather than a 70 point win. I reckon I could cope with that.

    Too true

  9. Yeah, I'm kinda bored. But the fact remains that we have been screwed by the umpires this year, not once, but twice. I've been to every game so far this season, and every single game I remember multiple free kicks against us which were definitely not free kicks and received massive uproars from the crowd. And the Doggies game was the worst of the lot.

It really sucks how our only Friday night game of the season was ruined by the horrible umpiring decisions. As I've heard and said before, the umpires are sponsored by OPSM, but they can't see [censored].

And if this post pisses anybody off, just think - we could be 5-2 if the umpiring was half-decent. We're 3-4.

EDIT: I have a link to an enquiry page if anybody wants to release some anger. Click Contact the AFL, there is a section with umpiring mentioned in it.
