  1. I agree that it was worrying but while we let them run all over us without putting up any fight, I also believe we were negatively affected by the whole LJ affair (if we feel flattened by it, imagine how it must be affecting the playing group) and weakened by the omission of players such as Green and Petterd (why was he a late withdrawal by the way?) and the early loss of Magner (any reports on his finger - was it a simple sprain or worse?). Actually, I would be far more worried if I was a Pies, Blues, Saints or Cats supporter, as their respective teams are more likely to be in a position to play the Hawks in finals, and going on the methodical way in which the hawks pulled us apart, they would already have to be very hot favourites for the Premiership Flag!
  2. We beat a fairly strong Pies side and then got thrashed by a very strong Hawthorn side. Pies, Blues, and Cats all got done comprehensively by teams they shouldn't have lost to. So, are you expecting a top 5 comprising Hawks, Port, Lions, Tigers and Adelaide/West Coast?
  3. And a couple more... One of my favourite Japanese bands The Blue Hearts and a song called "Linda Linda" (there is a rather good Japanese movie of the same name based around this song - about an all girl band in a high school talent show performing the same song). On a side note, a band I was in used to confuse pub patrons when we played this song: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SUab1kM2Rmc And my favourite Radiohead song "Karma Police":
  4. A couple from me: Brian Setzer Orchestra (former Stray Cats foray into big band rockabilly - and these guys seriously rock! - imho of course): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ncrILTdBywo The Fratellis "Henrietta" of their Costello Music CD... a fun band who, for some reason, remind me a little of Blur"
  5. I won Warnock's jumper from the Shanghai Showdown... to be honest, I wasn't too concerned about whose I got, I just wanted one of those jumpers for the very cool dragon design and players name in Chinese characters :-)
  6. Yes, I'm feeling rather flat at the moment, but I am looking forward to tomorrow's game so I can take some of the focus off the events of the past 24 hours or so. Today was a bad day for the clowns at GWS to send me an email asking if I was interested in becoming a member... usually I would have ignored it, but not today... today I was more than happy to provide them with a response
  7. I don't think you are showing the Dees v Pies game enough Commentary is the same old same old as far as I can tell - can anybody tell me what Hudson's background is... I know he has been around for a long time on FTA, but I am interested in how he got to where he is. I actually don't mind him and his nerdy cats supporting geeky ways... The shows are much the same as I always remember them being, just a few new faces, but it seems that they all pretty much follow the same format as in the past.
  8. If there is an Admin available, I think rpfc's post is the perfect point at which to lock this topic up. He has summed it up beautifully.
  9. A couple of things... firstly, I can't help but wonder what kind of affect this will have on the playing group (will it demoralise or will it galvanise them) and secondly (and this is something I really have no idea about, but maybe someone will?), will this simply be a matter for the MFC to sort out regarding penalties applied to Liam and if and when he can resume playing, or does the AFL have the right to intervene if they believe he has brought the game into disrepute?
  10. Where has it been reported he was drinking? I certainly haven't seen anything at all. http://www.smh.com.au/afl/afl-news/released-on-bail-liam-jurrah-returns-to-melbourne-20120309-1uosr.html It's now being reported in the press that he is on a flight to Melbourne and due to arrive later this afternoon:
  11. I am just glad to know that, unlike some of our so called supporters, this club has a heart!
  12. Yes, I saw that and he (Robbo) seemed genuinely emotional about the whole situation (as opposed to his, what I usually consider, displays of "faux passion")..
  13. A few suggestions from an avid collector of film on DVD and BluRay: Arrietty (think it gets a run at the cinemas here soon, if not already - I have the BluRay from Japan) - a take on Mary Norton's book "The Borrowers", from Hayao Miyazaki's Studio Ghibli - wonderful/beautiful animation - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arrietty In fact, I would recommend almost anything from this studio as they cater for adults (Princess Mononoke and Spirited Away) and children (Kiki's Delivery Service and My Neighbour Totoro being highlights), and are rarely short of superb. Older films I would recommend are most Kurosawa (Seven Samurai, Ran, Throne of Blood, Hidden Fortress, High and Low etc) Most Jim Jarmusch - Mystery Train, Down By Law, Ghost Dog, Dead Man etc A few Chinese films such as Aftershock, A World Without Thieves, Raise the Red Lantern, Not One Less, The Road Home, Shower Australian films such as The Last Wave, Lantana, Red Dog, Chopper French films such as Diva, City of Lost Children, Delicatessen, Amelie, Mic Macs, Wages of Fear Will add more later.
  14. I propose we wait until we know the facts before condemning him.
  15. Telegoons were a favourite of mine in the 60's: Spike Milligan and his Q series was also brilliant:
  16. Ronny Jordan meets DJ Krush (brilliant Japanese turntablizer) - "Love, I Never Had it So Good":
  17. Here are a couple I quite like... firstly an Anglo/Japanese collaboration known as United Future Organization "I Love My Baby, My Baby Loves Jazz": King Crimson Jazz Trio with "21st Century Schizoid Man" (as, if you know the original, you have never heard it before):
  18. And here is one thing that I dislike on these forums... Watts gets a lot of support here because of his age and development (takes more time for talls and KPFs etc etc), yet someone like Bennell (who is just 9months older than Watts, by the way) gets kicked from pillar to post for being soft and not hard enough at the contest.. and to my mind, they are both showing equal amounts of potential and promise.
  19. I like Fox Footy channel... thanks to them, I've had the pleasure of watching us beat Collingwood 4 or 5 time already this week
  20. Even though I corrected rpfc over this, I think he was probably correct when he said "our best 5" - I get the feeling that the OP was probably intending the word "elite" to be used as the "best 5" relative to the rest of our playing list.
  21. I would have thought that the blow out might be more likely to occur if they don't balance the loads of injured players properly (that is, overload them too early) - often, rest can be the best cure. In the case of Jurrah, it was simply a matter of a failure to heal correctly... I could not possibly see how not giving him a break would help such an injury to heal properly.
  22. No, I think that list is for the teams not playing in the GF.
