Tigers had over double the number of frees paid to them. Hardly a crucifixion.

Weren't we quick to forget about J Watts...

Billy I don't have a primary source to quote for you so I guess you can either take it or leave it as written.

Whilst not revolutionary or unexpected in any way, it's good to see this attitude from Bails that he wants TS & JT to play plenty of footy. Also that Strauss will debut. AFL.com article

Rather than trying to invent themes and take leaps of faith into "untapped" (disinterested) markets, I really love when the Club organises things like the opportunity for fans to have a kick on The G after games. It's really terrific and it's a great credit to the Club that our relationship with the MCC has regrown to such a point that we've managed to revive this for a couple of games. Again, I remain unconvinced that things of this nature necessarily draws thousands of extra fans through the gate on its own, but it can certainly enhance the experience of those who do come. I'm a firm believer that value adding to existing customers should take precedence over reaching for new markets.

I had this conversation with someone at the Club once before. They already tried the International Students thing. The Club gave them tickets, reserved L2 seats, a private room, a pre-game AFL tutorial. Apparently they seemed to enjoy it well enough the first time but they didn't even show up for the 2nd game. This market just plain don't care.

Tigers & Blues Get Lucrative Season Opener Again Why?

It's time to fork over for Foxtel Keyser. -
I don't see the obsession with adding gimmicks and sideshows to games. Does everyone really believe thousands of people who otherwise wouldn't have bothered would come to a game just because there's some kind of contrived pre-game entertainment or 'theme'?? Football fans will go to games to see either high quality football and/or to be part of a big crowd atmosphere. The successful so-called "Event Games" that work like Ess v Rich & Coll v Ess work well because they are high-drawing clubs with large supporter bases, and on a public holiday for ANZAC Day, not because an extra 10,000 people are so massively excited about 20 minutes of 'indigenous celebrations' or hearing the last post. To pick on one particular suggestion I saw here, if we labelled one of our games "International Round" the immigrant population of Melbourne doesn't all of a sudden go, "Hey!! That's me, I'm International!!!" and pour into the MCG in their thousands to see a game they don't care about and walk out converted with a newfound passion. As for giving away free tickets, we struggle to turn a profit at our games as it is, now we're going to pay for people to come???? We already try this with the Melbourne Heartland concept which is aimed at community groups/charities/schools etc and we struggle to give away those tickets some weeks.

You really can't make 'no injuries' an expectation. It's a game of football.

Get rid of Wells.

There is neither a deadline for preliminary 'squads' this far ahead of games, nor does Channel 9 make up the squads they show when their broadcast is shown early in the week. The clubs submit a sort of draft squad purely for the benefit of The Footy Show which they are in no way obligated to maintain. What you saw last night will be indicative of what we will see at 5pm tonight but last night's version is entirely unofficial insofar as any number of changes may be made. This is exactly the same situation as what we see every year when TFS shows the extended 'squads' for the QB game on the Thursday night broadcast.

They're allowing both this week.

The caps are $20 each mate. Go for it - MFC Megastore

You're not out of the race on either of those bets for mine, Gumbleton could break down trying to get through the banner on Friday night. Provided you had Sylvia EW that is because even without missing one game he can't win a Brownlow this year.

Here's a bit of the 'nastiness' or 'ruthlessness' that some of you seem to be so keen on seeing. Herald-Sun article Sounds like we could actually put some of this intel to use. Handy.

PJ is injured. Should be back at Casey in a couple of weeks.
-
Here's the afl.com version: Colin Sylvia (jaw) - 1 week Paul Johnson (foot) - 1-2 weeks Neville Jetta (groin) - 3-4 weeks Daniel Bell (shoulder) - 4-5 weeks Cale Morton (knee) - 6-8 weeks Liam Jurrah (shoulder) - 14 weeks Max Gawn (knee) - indefinite John Meesen (ankle) - indefinite Luke Tapscott (hip) - indefinite Still no mention of Wonaeamirri. Odd. Great to see Watts, Blease & Garland off that list though.
-
I don't think you understand the plan. Rather than having players like Sylvia, Davey, Morton, etc taking up cap space in 2-3 years time as senior players demanding big money they will be on less money than what they will receive this year, leaving ample room in the cap for paying up bigger money to retain our young future stars like Grimes, Watts, Trengove, Scully, Jurrah, Strauss, Blease, etc etc who we've invested so heavily in through the draft. Rather than get bogged down in an irrelevancy like whether Aaron Davey makes as much as a St Kilda midfielder, rather consider your sheer horror and fury at losing a player from the 2nd group above because we didn't have cap space.

If someone did breach their confidentiality agreement on this forum I would implore the moderators to delete the post with all haste. That kind of thing could wind up ruining the whole experience for everyone else if the coaches felt what was said would be repeated online.
-
If you're signing a confidentiality agreement that is a legal document, not a token for a bit of fun. I don't think the club would 'almost have to expect' its own supporters to breach a signed confidentiality agreement when it comes to something as sensitive as matchday tactics. If someone who was part of this program repeated what they heard on here in spite of that agreement I would hope they would be punished.

What you see here is quality list management at work. Planning for a successful future. Excellent stuff.

Geelong, St Kilda & Bulldogs we must attack their list
Inner Demon replied to a topic in Melbourne Demons
Why would we pursue players from other clubs who would not be in our 22??? Attracting players to move from other clubs over the next couple of years will be very difficult as if they're an attractive player on the market then GC & GWS will be able to overbid every other club, and in some cases, just take them with no need to trade at all. We've got a list full of promising young players, mostly high draft picks, our success will come from developing these kids, not from trading for other Clubs' players. -
I love how people assume to have any knowledge whatsoever of exactly what each assistant coach is doing and go on to pass judgement on whether or not they're any good. Wellman is given a group of talented young players to work with like Warnock, Frawley, Rivers, Grimes, etc and because these players being to show ability he is a 'senior coach in waiting'. Josh Mahoney has a key forward who just put down his school books, two forward pockets from the most remote parts of the country who have only just been given boots (all of whom have been limited by injury) and a CHF with all the application in the world but limited talent and because he doesn't wave a wand over them in 2 years to turn them into a powerhouse he's not up to it.

Money will have absolutely no bearing on which player/s we promote from the rookie list. Bailey will promote whoever he wants to use on the weekend.
-
I don't think our rookie list looks light at all. We've got 4 out of 6 who can and have played at AFL level. One is only now getting an injury free run so shouldn't be judged until he's had this year. The other had an injury interrupted first season and hasn't had a chance yet. I would love to see a better rookie list out there with an explanation that doesn't fall back on - "I saw this guy's YouTube highlights tape and he will be a star".
