One interesting stat tells the tale for me. On Metres Gained, top Eagle was Shuey with 500. We had two players who did better than that, and by a lot: Langdon: 797 Hibberd: 676 In fact, those two lead Metres Gained across the whole league, and once again by quite a bit. So, great stuff. Except that ... they're also the two players with the most turnovers, 8 and 7 respectively. We're doing a lot right - but are being let down by disposal and turnovers. People are right here to criticise players for not chasing and for Eagles players getting out the back. But without all those turnovers, the opposition wouldn't be getting out the back in the first place. (At least not to the extent that they are).

BEST Melbourne: Viney, May, Pickett, O.McDonald, Petracca, Langdon
-
You're not on your own.
-
Perhaps. But won't make a difference the way the ball's coming in. Tom Mac, Fritsch, Melksham, Petracca when he's there ... they're all good forwards that would walk into any team in the league.
-
One thing there needs fixing: kicking into the forward line. Langdon (who played a great game otherwise) was the main offender, but just so many of them coming through the middle were unable to do anything much more than bomb it in. On that score, felt like we really missed Jones and Salem.

That's not the game plan, that's the work rate. Or lack of.
-
West Coast a class above. Whenever finals come round, they'll be front and centre, just so much talent from one end to the other.

Season should never have started in the first place. Was both irresponsible and hypocritical.

I'm in France, where we're already there. Here: - school is still on for children of key workers - anyone laid off through forced closures has their salary (or most of it) paid by the govt - same for anyone who has to stay home to look after children - small businesses have access to a range of emergency funding, and most costs and charges (e.g. rent) have been either cancelled or deferred.
-
In the UK, as in other countries where they've been closed, school is still provided for children of key workers such as health professionals.

Surprised to not see Weideman there. Perhaps less training load of late might have tipped the scales, but at some point, he'll need to start solidifying his place I would have thought. Happy with the rest, though Jones and Salem will be missed. I felt Jones was very good across the pre-season games.

If he was applying for employment in football, that might be a limitation. But it's a fan forum, where being out of your depth is not just permitted, it's a feature.

Paris (suburbs of).
-
I should add, basically all the shops are closed (except supermarkets, chemists, a few other essentials.). So you think, OK, stuck here for a month, we'll do some work on the garden. But you can't even buy weedkiller.

Same here in France. Lockdown started at 12H today, and it's like a morgue outside ... nothing moving. Similar rules to Italy, but you're allowed to walk your dog or do a bit of sport (go for a run) if you're alone. But need authorisation, and police are already manning random checkpoints. 38 euro fine if you don't have a good excuse for being outside. At the moment it's for 15 days, but everyone's expecting that to be extended at least for the same time. Going to be very hard for a lot of people.

Figures tonight from France: 4500 cases, which has doubled in 72 hours. Of those, 300 are in intensive care. And of those 300, half are younger than 60. A month ago we had 11 cases. 2 weeks ago, we'd just cracked 100.
-
Not just. Good luck in Italy at the moment if you need urgent medical care because you wrap your Alfa around a tree or have a burst appendix. No matter how old you are.

Seriously? Much more contagious than the flu, x times more fatal and (the key bit) *for which there is neither cure nor vaccine*. And it's not just the elderly. Death rates for people with cardiovascular or respiratory conditions, diabetes, hypertension, obesity and cancer are through the roof. There's also a massive hidden cost which we're starting to see in places like Italy: because ICU's and hospitals are overwhelmed, people with other potentially life-threatening diseases are being shunted to the back of the cue, with a predictable longer-term cost. And that's without even starting on the long-term effects of isolation on mental health and global well-being for those who are already fragile.
-
Some reports I've read from Italian medical staff have been harrowing, to say the least.
-
I posted that on Monday morning. It's now Wednesday evening, and we're up to 2300 cases and 48 dead.

As to the wisdom of reducing contact, isolation, and shutting things down (also as to how infectious this is): "New York officials traced more than 50 coronavirus cases back to one attorney" "Just two days after the man's positive results, on March 4, his 20-year-old son, a student at New York's Yeshiva University, also tested positive. The wife and 14-year-old daughter of the attorney both also tested positive on the same day. So did the neighbor who drove him to the hospital. And a friend of the attorney. The friend's wife, two sons and daughter tested positive that day too. The day after, on March 5, eight other people connected to the attorney tested positive for the virus." etc. https://edition.cnn.com/2020/03/11/us/new-rochelle-attorney-containment-area/index.html

They had 12 cases in Italy at one point as well. Now it's over 10K, with hundreds dead. Isolation and reducing contact is the only way of reducing infections. There is no cure, no vaccine. Just saying.

Bring back Dave Misson.

Nottingham Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis, who was at the Championship football team’s home game on Friday alongside more than 27,000 fans, has reportedly contracted coronavirus. The 52-year-old Greek businessman announced the news in an Instagram post, writing to his 49,000 followers: “The recent virus gas ‘visited’ me and I felt obliged to let the public know. I feel good as I take all the necessary measures and I discipline to the doctors’ instructions. I strongly advise all my all my fellow citizens to do the same. I wish all a quick recovery.”

But also the format. Where else, except on the Demonland podcast of course, do players (or coaches) get to talk for 20+ minutes? The quick 2 minute post-match MFC interview or 30 second radio/TV grab doesn't lend itself to much more than "yes, we've all been working hard and yes, the foot feels fine" type of answers.
