Yep I'd say no defense since you super bowl run has definitely hurt GB! Especially against San Fran.

    1. Ability to run the ball 2. Consistent tackling on defense 3. Consistent pass rush 4. Special teams showing up We don't even have a good safety. Conte is our best safety and every time he tries to tackle he injures himself or makes a fool of himself. The tackling from the LB's hasn't been much better. Until I see proof we've sorted it out I'm still worried we are only a tick away from being last years horrible defense. Our pass rush has been acceptable, lots of pressure against reasonable offensive lines. But besides Jonathan Martin getting bullied against the 49ers we haven't got home enough.

I like Geno. The pick 6 was ridiculous, I think he missed Chris Johnson by miles and threw it straight to Mundy. But considering the lack of receiving options he has I think he does ok. Absolutely no idea what kind of offense they are running either. They've got Ivory and CJ2K, let's give them a bunch of carries. Marty Mornhinweg has meant to be a west coast offense guy but I don't see a lot of quick releases. The playbook seems way too long and complicated. Commit to the run (which is made easier by a very good defense), give Geno some quick reads and the option to then run it out of trouble if he needs and then eventually take a big shot down field and he'll probably put up better results. Give him at least one good WR or TE would be a start as well.

It's not our year. Need to get a gun safety and some development time into our young DT's and LB's on defense. Bit of second year blues building in the offense. Special teams is miles off as well. Need development time there. Happy with how we are looking but we are trying to win a superbowl in the Ravens or Giants style fashion ie. never be perfect but find the dominant defensive line in the playoffs and find outstanding QB play at the right time. If by somehow the Sea Hawks aren't the number 1 seed or someone knocks them off then we have a very interesting NFC. I still think it's the better conference it's just more wide open than last year.
  5. I can take the excuse that they simply don't want to spoil the drafts unless a club is on it's last dying legs. But don't feed us crap about Hogan and Clark, or the list being in better shape or any other platitude.
  6. Got them out of a pretty big hole and up to finals. Gave them leadership and made the other players walk taller. You have to remember they were in a big mess before they got Judd. Personally with Vince, Jones, Tyson and some high draft picks I'd hope we have turned the corner a bit already and aren't so desperate that we'd go all in on Dangerfield (who's also a much lesser player) like Carlton did with Judd.

Wow can't believe we won that. But also feel like we've used up a seasons worth of luck. Some nice penalties helped but mainly that lovely pick 6 from Geno and then a lovely fumble on the punt. 14-0 and from there we just did enough. If we can't stop losing players to injuries we are in trouble. Lost our 2 safeties then the 3rd back up to go with a starting corner already out. Had a starting LB out with a broken hand and a starting DT with concussion. 2 starting OL injured and our important full back out for the first 2 games then injured again in the first half today. And our best special teams player out. Plus Marshall and Jeffery aren't right. No team is ever perfectly healthy but if you lose a bunch of injuries at the same time at the same position it hurts. I'm very concerned about having both our starting safeties missing and coming up against Rodgers. Especially with our run game being non existent. I guess unless you are the dominant team in a weak division or a good team in a super strong division for the rest of the teams it's about just hanging in there and getting in form at the right time of the year.
  8. Depends what we get. I'm not sure he'll ever have speed on the outside or huge power on the inside that makes a top line midfielder. But as a guy who can play forward a bit, wing and midfield he could be a handy inclusion. If he's got enough pace to be competitive and his top endurance back I wouldn't be against using him as a tagger to find his form for a while, similarly to how Nathan Jones was used in 2010/2011 before he broke out as a top midfielder. Trengove, Toumpas and Watts all have to be best 22, it's as simple as that. Doesn't matter what role they play they have to be consistently in the team, we aren't good enough not to have them in.

Houston in any other division are no chance. But the Colts are a seriously bad team that rides Andrew Luck to the bank and to victories. One JJ Watt destroying sack of Luck and they are favourite for the division. Same with my thoughts on Jets, Miami and Buffalo. In 2 or 3 weeks it could again be a Pats certainty to win the division and the other teams mixing it with somewhere between 6-10 and 9-7 records. I still believe that's what would happen. But as of right now with the lack of divisional games and the Pats looking just good more than anything else I can't tip a winner in that division. Better to leave more teams in than less when it comes to early season NFL. Already Pittsburgh have made me look silly for writing them off.

Ok this will hit a raw nerve.....but maybe you are tanking. If you're going to be crap why not be really crap and find the long term solution at QB. If Mariota or Winston (ewww) really are superstars then you'll have a good team for a long time as you've got some other pieces in place. 2nd and 3rd string QB's playing and you should be 2-1 (even if the competition hasn't been great). That's one of the best things about the NFL, it all comes down to tiny little moments in games and you can go from bad to good very quickly.
  11. Kochie is nothing without the Port CEO, Darren Burgess and Ken Hinkley. Give me a board with good governance to meet long term objectives rather than whatever Kochie is. We simply don't know about Kochie until Port start losing, that's when you judge a President.

Because the first half didn't? The mysteries of laura was described as the worst of the knew dramas by grantland. I expect it will pop up in prime time on one our channels! Poor CBS spending so much on this crap. Should've just left it with NFL Network, I don't mind Mike Mayock.

Made a horrendous tip here. I forgot that Lovie Smith is a part time defensive whiz (missing McCoy) but also a full time fool who screws offenses. He can never hire an offensive coordinator who can buy his QB some time in the pocket. It's like he hates offensive lines. And dont even get me started on Hester. Completely wasted his potential on offense in Chicago. You'd think Lovie Smith would know better than to punt straight to him. My feeling with the game was that Atlanta are still suspect up front on offense and defense, so if the game was tight late Tampa could get some sacks and make some plays and win a close one. As soon as Tampa became uncompetitive it was always going to be a big Atlanta win at home. But this is one of the biggest blow outs I can remember in the NFL.
  14. Will be interesting how they structure Goodwin's role. Stone was midfield coach re ball movement I believe. Ben Matthews the stoppages coach. Can't see Goodwin just being added to that mix without a change. Possibly he takes Stone's role, Matthews continues in the stoppages role. Georgie Stone as the experienced swiss army knife that he is goes in to something different. The title is horrible but I'd call him our 'kicking game coordinator'. Very US. But I'd have him in charge of developing the ball use of all players from half back through to inside 50. Goodwin can work on getting the midfielders in positions that will see them be used as options going forward and in the right defensive spots. Stone can work on getting all the players to find that balance Roos is so keen on where they take the game on when it's there and build patiently when it's not.
  15. Because we aren't fooling anyone! I agree that it's worth a shot and why not be patient, but I think only Blease would have a tiny tiny amount of value and as he's out of contract he could eventually go the PSD and get to his destination anyway. Tapscott for a Jetta style rookying because the guy plays like he actually gives a damn. Even if he doesn't get a kick at least someone gets tackled or bumped and is sore the next day.

No Roddy White, no offensive line. Probably wont matter but I'm hoping my old favourite Josh McCown can prove his worth.

Your defense will lift once Aldon Smith comes back and Kap can't play that badly. Though the biggest issue from the Bears loss is what is Harbaugh doing? He abandons the run with a lead in a game against the awful bears run defense. Mind boggling. There's something a little Malcolm Blight about him I think. A little the longer he coaches the more he gets caught up in his own brand of crazy. The whole drama about trading him to Cleveland was fascinating stuff.

Think Arizona can go to 2-1 and still be easily in the race, same with the 49ers at 1-2. Don't think you'll miss the NFC wildcard with 10 wins this year, my word Arizona were stiff last year. NFC: Definitely 3 teams in the west who can make playoffs, 3 teams from the North, 3 teams from the south and probably just the Eagles in the East is my take. Arizona the best of the NFC teams who didn't make it last year, throw a blanket over Chicago, Detroit and Atlanta. AFC: 2 teams from the West (sorry KC), 2 teams from the North (Cinn and Baltimore) I've written off Pittsburg, 2 teams from the South (Houston and Indy) and I'd still say 4 teams from the East, all of Miami, Buffalo and the Jets look good enough for 8 wins if they split their division games and take some games from the Pats. Think we'll get an 8-8 AFC wildcard and like last year it might be a battle to see who's good enough in the late season cold to get the job done.
  19. Yep. They pay him more because they can use a pick on a cheap top quality player. Signing free agents is the best deal ever, you just have to convince them to come and not do a Melbourne (and Carlton) and screw your compensation.
  20. 2011: Melbourne sign Neeld getting in ahead of Adelaide - Melb LOSE (note: most coaches from 2011 have a horrible record) 2013: Brisbane try to sign Roos, fail, end up signing Leppa who looks like a great coach and costs them at least half if not a third of the price and will be there long term: 2014: Adelaide miss Goodwin, end up signing Stewie Dew (possibly) the man the Dees originally wanted Bit early to start counting our chickens. That said I am impressed that Goodwin chose us. It might well be we were the only job available and he committed before the chance to apply to Adelaide even registered on his horizon. But if he did choose I can't help but think he's making a really good decision to form part of a succession plan and round out his training before he gets the job. That kind of investing in his future and patience is rare for AFL coaches especially for the star player turned coach types.
  21. He's at least had the guts to join the board and scope the club out first and he'll presuming stay on the board to see out the plan with the new coach. That alone puts his way ahead of Lyon. Farcical that from the 1000's of ex players we've had we couldn't get one to put their hand up as football director. I know it's unpaid but it's a chance to mold the on field success of the club. 90+% of us on here would gladly do the job but without AFL playing or football department experience we aren't well qualified.
  22. Kochie could've said whatever he liked. He was always choosing Port. It was just an example of Koch to [censored] his Port Adelaide virtues crap. GWS nominated him because they probably had to. Gold Coast because they are in desperate need of some depth!
  23. One does not simply trade Bernie Vince in Adelaide. He's the kingmaker
  24. Was hoping Dangerfield walked out, Sando stayed and we got Goodwin. Turns out Sando sacked, Goodwin a moral for Adelaide and Danger will stay.
  25. Big rumours Adelaide might beat us to the signing here.
