  1. Neither do they. After Cotchin, Martin, Deledio, Ellis and Miles it's guys like Grigg, Edwards, Vlaustin, Petterd, Conca, Foley. Those 6 aren't getting a look in at top 4 sides. They may be better than Watts, Bail, M Jones and Lumumba but they are in a similar league of struggle town. It's why we could beat them earlier in the year. Cross and Jones took care of Deledio and Cotchin and it came down to Martin and Ellis v Tyson and Vince. Miles was a great find though once they started playing him. More so though they need Deledio to play half forward and wing so he gets out in space and is damaging and they need Martin (and he himself needs) time forward as well. Ellis is better at wing and half back as well. Edwards is a forward flanker, Vlaustin a back flanker and Conca nothing more than depth. If they are ever going to really compete for top 4 they need to replace Foley and Grigg with a productive inside mid and a classy outside mid. Daniel Jackson was a big loss for them. Trengove could be a way of fixing one of those spots. The thing about Trengove is he's hard, smart and discipline. You get him in a best 22 and in form he'll hold his spot. You aren't going backwards to a Grigg or Foley nor a Matt Jones or McKenzie or whatever we are offering up as our lesser mids if you get Trenners playing well. So if he cracked the Richmond side as was healthy and moving well I'm sure he'd stay there. If he's struggling he won't get a look in at Richmond but if we get any kind of improvement from Matt Jones, Bail, Michie, Riley, Toumpas, Watts, Lumumba and Trengove is still moving up and down on the spot and not getting the ball then he's not getting a game for us either!
  2. Bit small and slow and doesn't do much besides lead, mark and goal. I feel the game has gone passed those players. If we don't get a key forward in the draft then maybe we consider him for a rookie spot. But our list will likely have: Key fwds: Hogan, Dawes Fwds/ruck: Pedersen, Fitzpatrick,, ?Max King Rucks who can sit in the square: Gawn If we add McCartin/Wright then Johnston on the rookie list ends up just getting in the way at Casey unless he drastically improves or we have significant injuries.
  3. No. Statement from Peter Ryan at AFL.com.au using lifted quotes from Josh Mahoney that he gave the heraldsun. That it goes up on our website and is tweeted by our communication staff may or may not mean anything. No doubt we are putting the feelers out on this deal. It's not done but it is truly under consideration. But I wouldn't read too much in to that article.
  4. If we are shipping Watts or Toumpas then we are preparing for a party.
  5. And regretted it when he got mixed up in substances, hung out with criminals, turned up out of shape and injured to training, flashed the handcuffs sign, got tribal tattoos on his neck. Wouldn't mind Martin but he nearly fell to pieces at Richmond. He would've been even worse at Melbourne. Morabito, that wouldn't have ended well. Cunnington, well I guess you'd take his steady production. Rohan, you'd hate his production for the talent. As usual, Melbourne down the bottom when the top picks stink!
  6. 3 for 12 is worth more than Beams though. There's no player crawling out of the woodwork for that pick I'm nearly certain. Unless it's Dangerfield. 3 and 12 for pick 1? Surely we wouldn't? This is Richmond being opportunistic and Melbourne having a good long think about it. Pick 12 does represent a bigger chance of finding a very good player (Dangerfield, Talia, Frawley, Nath Jones around this mark) than pick 23 (even if Fyfe was around this mark). Draft pick value tapers in the top 5, then goes 6-15, then 15-40. So it's a handy jump. This trade is saying that Trengove is no better than Toumpas, Michie, Riley, Matt Jones etc. It's saying he was no loss this year and isn't certain to be part of the future. That's not a call I'd make but with all the available info maybe it can be made.
  7. Roos (or Longmire post him) traded out Veszpremi, Lewis Johnston let Jed Lamb walk and there might have been others. Sympathy for first round draft picks taken by others isn't business.
  8. http://www.aflplayerratings.com.au/Ratings/Player/113555/Jack-TRENGOVE Look at this analytically. Forget that he was a pick 2 and a former captain. We really don't have time for those sentimental decisions. They are at least best made now when morale and belief in Roos is high not in a couple of years time when it goes full McCartney. Trengove can certainly play. But he doesn't have a natural position. Too slow to play outside. Not dynamic enough to play inside. Doesn't have the skills for half back or the x factor forward. Our inside mids are Cross, Jones, Vince, Tyson Viney. Our outside mids should be Lumumba, Watts, Toumpas etc. It's not a strong group. But if Trengove isn't better than Michie, Riley or Toumpas what's the difference? My biggest problem with the deal is it's 12 for 23 and is a 2 for 1 deal. If the Tigers throw in pick 49 as well as we can on trade that for Frost then I'm more interested (presuming we need that for Frost and/or can get someone else in the PSD.

Anyone not tipping: Denver San Diego (always classy) Can't settle on a third tip. Can't go against my Browns (AFC team, getting on the bandwagon early) after they came through for me last week, can't tip NE, Baltimore or SF and I don't want to ruin Thursday night football! Green Bay (if I jinx them it's still a win!)
  10. I actually think Wright is a safer bet than McCartin. McCartin looks too much like a talented school boy kid who's better than everyone but might not have the same tricks at AFL level. If he doesn't make it as a forward then Wright will make it as a ruck at least. But we need to think of him as a forward to draft him. If we think he's a ruck then stuff that. If we think he's the best KPF in the draft and as good (or close to) the likes of big forwards like Boyd and Daniher who have come through of late then we lock him in.
  11. Medium midfielders: Damien Cavka sounds decent as an outside mid. They reckon he'd have broken the beep record and apparently he has good skills. I'd sign him up and let him run all day. Hawthorn have drafted some endurance freaks on the wing and they are paying off for them. By the way, so many of these kids are born in the first few months of the year. Brayshaw and Petracca are both born early January. Is that just a coincidence? So I'd look hard at Corey Ellis as he's born in October. Probably 6 months behind some of these guys in physical development. Same with Connor Menadue. Western Jets seems the place to be for midfielders this year. Maybe it's all the new housing out in the West boosting the talent or something.
  12. We'd be silly not to bring in at least a couple more picks in the draft besides the 2 under 18 year olds. Given our draft hand I'd say clear room for 4 at least. Upping the overall state of the list is vital but any sustained top 4 or flag tilt will need a core of players in the same age group and our best age group is still built around Hogan, Tyson, Viney and co. So if we trade out 3 and 23 for experience we should try and get a couple of 20's or 30's back with them minimum. Draft picks are still the best way to find cheap quality talent. Not much point even having a recruiting department if you don't give them a shot.
  13. Probably too much. That pick downgrade is worth another pick 30 on it's own. What we are looking at with Frost is pretty much another Tom McDonald from 2012/2013. Decent, but still could go either way. The both of them in the same team (and a team that features Jack Grimes as a rebounding flanker) is a recipe for disaster! http://www.aflplayerratings.com.au/Ratings/Player/116931/Sam-FROST http://www.aflplayerratings.com.au/Ratings/Player/115817/Tom-MCDONALD Good efforts and 4's and 5's. But you need to go to another level to be a consistent defender.
  14. Of course. Well if we sneak Frost in through the PSD we can draft Tom Lamb with pick 23!
  15. We are probably paying Dawes and Vince that much and a higher pick. Plus who knows what we will pay Lumumba. That said that's probably enough players to bring in on overs to set standards and help win now.
  16. 2 low rated players shouldn't equal a second round pick. Plus how much better is Giles as a back up than Pedersen, Fitzpatrick or Gawn? Or as a primary ruck than Spencer? Or even Maxy King. Not enough to make a trade in my mind. Stick to guys we have who are (somewhat) competent in the position. Especially if we had plans of taking Peter Wright in the draft. Giles would be just dropping an extra tall back in to the VFL for not a lot of benefit. GWS got Tom Lamb through the PSD away from Sydney last year. Maybe it's time they lose a player through the PSD.
  17. Out: Frawley, Clark, Byrnes, Clisby, Nicholson (Blease, Tapscott, Strauss, ?Evans) In: Garlett, Jetta, Lumumba, Frost, Stretch, 2, 3, 22 ?PSD Clark for Lumumba. Could we get something more added in to that trade? Not sure how we get Frost without downgrading the second round pick unless they have interest in one of our guys who are on the chop.
  18. They are getting 800 extra in the cap next year, 600 the year after. It's hard to feel sorry for them even if these are silly conditions.
  19. Not ideal. But sounds like blokes being blokes. Or idiots being idiots. Guess if we are taking him it's about giving him a fresh start and forgiving whatever has happened before.
  20. The other problem with Garlett is how damn soft he is. He makes Watts look courageous. I don't know how we toughen him up.
  21. Carlton fans talking second round swaps and all sorts of other BS. Surely he's out of contract. Even a 4th round is generous.
  22. Apparently big personal troubles, I hope we've done due diligence. If they are sorted then he could be worth something. Really it's just a throw at the stumps that should cost nothing.
  23. Fantastic. All the right experience and the right attitude. I know die hard Casey fans would want autonomy in the senior coach, but it just doesn't make sense. They have the name, the oval, the jumpers. But no doubt for any success we have to provide the majority of the players and it has to be MFC and Casey who work together to draw VFL listed players in to the system and develop them. Based on that video I'd be surprised if there weren't a few ex Sandy Dragons who get looked over in the draft joining Casey this year. Casey isn't even that far a drive for those at the southern end of the Dragons zone.

Not sure if daylight savings is good or bad. Overall I'm saying bad. Games dragging too long in the afternoon. Seattle, Cinn and.......Cleveland! Just felt like tipping Cleveland.
