Phantom Drafts 2023
I’d think long and hard about Charlie Edwards over Tholstrup if we went Watson. Assuming there’s very little difference in their rankings. Darcy Wilson and DeMattia too. But it depends if they think Tholstrup is a midfielder and can add more run and carry in his game.

Welcome to Demonland: Caleb Windsor
Been heavily linked to GWS where he’d perfectly suit their game plan and list needs. Im sure we’ve done the recon on where he’d go. Take someone else at 6. Curtin, Caddy, O’Sullivan go 7,8,9. But unfortunately there’s pesky GWS in the middle.

Daniel Curtin
Clarko camped at his house. The Eagles offering a future first. Adelaide and other teams going hard to trade up. But potentially North, Hawks, Dees and Giants passing, and those anonymous statements by recruiters are about as harsh as you get about a top 10 prospect.

Cowboys Chargers SeaHawks Wanted to go Cardinals but I could quite get there

Absolutely. Just more a comment on endurance. At least from what we know by way of 2km time Windsor’s not elite elite. It’s unlikely he’s running with ANB and Langdon in preseason 1. Of course the recruiters get Yo-yo test, GPS and observing game running live to get a far better gauge. I think (if we pick him) they’ll aim to have him in the side playing half forward and taking some 3rd wing minutes when he’s ready to debut. The role Taj had this year when he played. The chase down tackling is an exciting part of his game.

Welcome to Demonland: Caleb Windsor
The tank is interesting, both short term but more so long term. If we take him there must be belief he can really run. But you’d rather see a 6 flat 2km time total for a winger than a 6:36. The last pure winger JT took was probably sauce Baker and he took 6+ years to become an afl wing runner. Clearly the hope is Windsor doesn’t take that long. There’s got to be belief he can contribute as a half forward or half back too.

AFLW: SF vs Geelong
About a dozen times this year she’s got the fumbles or missed simple goals running in to open shots when pressure from behind. She’s 95% there but for a captain there’s another level required. Our star players this year fell short. That’s Hore, Harris, Zanker (pre q4), Hanks (more of a rotation mid), Purcell, Gay. They have to go up a level to match the oppositions stars.

A lot of similarities with the girls end of 23 with the boys 22. Untimely injuries. Poor depth. Game plan figured out. Mucked up the first final. Nearly won the second at the end. But it’s damn hard to back up a flag Not sure it’s similar to the men’s issues this year (which was mostly no forward line and no dash). You lose more finals than you win. Got to analyse why the Brisbane game rattled them and fix the midfield problems but I’m confident the girls will front back up. Need some quality list management tho.

If Loz Pearce could kick she’d be the games best player by a mile. Thought she’d done it with that snap for a second. Great fight back by Zanker. Huge last quarter by Goldy on ball. I really think they’re were shell shocked by Brisbane and took 7 quarters to realise how to get the balance between contest and spread right.

Clear block in the ruck just ignored

Put McNamara in the Birch and Bannan trade.

Kate Hore is a bit soft when there’s pressure on her at ground level, she should’ve ate Emonson in that contest before. Not Banno level soft but room for improvement

He’s so bad. I admire his confidence in becoming a commentator despite the most unpleasant voice this side of Kelly Underwood

Physically or mentally? Looks fine physically but makes so many lazy errors

No tall on the line. Birch not within a mile of Parry. Just a joke

AFLW: SF vs Geelong
We beat Geelong in Geelong comfortably and North nicely. Nearly beat Adelaide with a stirring comeback. Everything went well until the final round and we’ve been hopeless since. Some injuries are a factor. Lost continuity in the second half of the year and missing Sherrif (best pressure forward) and Lampard. Eliza West has looked heavy legged all year and she’s our best inside bull. Backline has had vulnerable moments with the Birch birching, Gay battling injuries and the pace of the game catching Goldy out. But really I think Brisbane rattled them with physicality and they haven’t recovered. Rather than step up to the physicality that finals require they’ve shirked it. Non stop panicking, terrible work rate and the skills are a mess.

Simple kick out and simple direct footy leads to a shot at goal

Hollywood kicks out when we have the best ruck in the game. #StinearOut

Maddy Gay is having an absolute Birch of a game. As is Birch. This backline has fallen apart

Prediction Time
Just a theory but If Adelaide deal up for Curtin at 9 we could move up to 10 with Geelong to take Leake given Essendon will likely take Caddy and GWS might not want a key defender.

Phantom Drafts 2023
Missing your meds? We’ve offered everything we’ve got for Reid and it’s been knocked back. Delisting 1-4 fringe players to get pick 7, apart from being completely infeasible is not something the Eagles would be interested in. If they’re trading their future first it’s to get Curtin for themselves.

Yes. My comment was replying to KITP asking why Windsor had moved from in contention for pick 11 to the likely pick at 6.

Welcome to Demonland: Caleb Windsor
Because the media know nothing after the first bunch of names each year, in fact some years they barely know them. Early mocks had Oliver at 15ish. No one had Jackson top 3. No one had Pickett in the first round. The media cottoned on to our interest in Windsor, slotted him at 11. Maybe all along he's been the 6th best name on our board. We'll find out on Monday

I understand the desire for Watson, he’s dynamite despite his size, understands how to use his body and reads the play faster than anyone in the draft. And for Sanders, clean hands and quick accurate disposals. They’d both be ready to play and low risk, high quality players. Chucking in a late first to move up, I can see it. But it has to be a late first and that’s putting pressure on us next year. Of the picks to move up I think I’d prefer to elevate 11 to 7/8. Tholstrup is perfectly respectable pick but I like Leake or the choice of talls.
