		Farewell Jesse Hogan

Could include their 2nd rounder back. Who knows. The point I was making was that I doubt it would be as straightforward as Pick 5 for May. There would be more to the deal than that. But, we shouldn't underestimate May either (not saying he's worth Pick 5, but he's a quality player).

I would imagine that pick 5 could include Kade Kardashian too.

I think we set somewhat of a precedence last year when giving up 2 x first rounders for Lever. Personally, if a trade is to take place, I can see; Out; Hogan In; Pick 6 (2018 - presuming they get that for Neale), 2019 1st Round I would then try and trade our 2019 1st Round pick to Gold Coast for May (would require a combination of other picks too, possibly including our 2nd Round pick this year). Means we will keep Pick 6 for this year, and then have Freo's 1st pick next year (Pick 1 hopefully, but realistically 2-8).

Think that was pretty obvious when we delisted Filipovic and King. In 2019, we are going to have the best ruck in the league, and a more than capable back-up who will continue to get better. A lot of sides would be in envy of our position here.

Didn't think we played our intraclub games on the MCG anymore, Bob?

WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - STEVEN MAY

It may have been mentioned earlier on this thread (can't be bothered looking), but there was a stage in the later parts of this season where the idea was discussed that Gold Coast could rip up May's current contract, effectively making him a Free Agent. The reason for doing this is the compo pick they would receive would be of far greater value than what May would command in a trade. With or without Jesse's departure, this is hopefully something the MFC are discussing with the Suns. I'm sure the AFL would look after it's love child if they approached with this request.

Give him bit more credit than that - Paul Johnson was one of our great back pocket players during very dark times.

For no reason at all (maybe just the 'vibe'), I feel that we are happy to have Hogan off our list. We will know in time, especially if a deal does get done and it's less than 2 x first rounders. We'd be mad to accept anything less if Hogan, unless there are circumstances why we'd be happy to accept just 1 x first rounder. For me, the caveat is his injury. I just wonder if the club has concerns about Hogan's body. I know they told us that they got on to the navicular early and he will make a full recovery from it, but are we concerned about his body's ability to stand the rigours of playing AFL, especially as a KPF?

You started it. Severely overrating Kent. He's just not that good.

Be surprised if we don't get offered, and accept, a 3rd rounder for him.

Really? We paid around mid 20 for Melksham and Hibberd, and I know which ones I MUCH prefer...

When under contract, both club AND player must agree to a trade. How can you not understand this?

Firstly, let's just wait until after the Grand Final to see if Richmond have gone back to back. Of course I can recognise that their game plan has worked. Results are there for all to see. I think what Hardwick has done has implemented a game style that suited the personnel that he had at his disposal, and somehow they managed to jag a flag. That said, adding Lynch to their line up next year will only improve their current game plan. It will mean the "kick long to a contest" style will be made easier, as there will be two key targets going up, allowing their smaller players to crumb. The amount of times they had Rioli and Higgins going up in a contest last Friday night is far from ideal, and something that Hardwick would know isn't sustainable. Other than the addition of Lynch, I can't see Hardwick tweaking their game plan much at all. Thirdly, it is costing them something - a crap load of salary cap space. They could spend that on Gaff, Shiel, etc, but no, they are spending it on the best KPF they can get.

Naive? Please. Why would a team that is having a "golden era", chase the best KPF on the market at the risk of "disrupting their game-style"? I'll give you the non-naive answer - it's because Hardwick would be salivating at the prospect of having 2 key forwards for his small brigade to crumb off.

Richmond play with 1 tall key forward because they don't have anyone else. Why do you think they have gone out to get Tom Lynch?

Thought it was interesting listening to Roos talk about the possibility of playing Hogan at CHB, then that talking guppy, Matthew Lloyd, talked about playing Weid at CHB when Hogan returns. This must be what it's like to have options, and quality key position players on our list. I love it. (I will admit, I mostly dismissed Lloyd's views, mainly because I can't stand him.)

		HATCH MATCH & DESPATCH 2018

All good. Thought you were being harsh on an 18 year old Cat B rookie by calling him a downhill skier! I thought we only did that to our 18 year olds, not other teams!

Thanks for mentioning this - I didn't see that. I knew a bit about Tom when I lived on the Sunshine Coast (which is where Tom grew up), more from a basketball perspective. He was a very talented basketball player - from memory, he had been invited to some camps in the USA. Not surprised to hear he was on the Bullets roster. Was a good kid from a good, down to earth family. Good luck to him.

Didn't Western Australia abandon ship long ago? Could've sworn it was a different country over there. Just on that, do you guys have your own Prime Minister over there yet, or are they still trying to work out how they can make Alan Bond a posthumous PM? Couldn't be any worse than what we are dealing with in the Eastern states...
