  1. It will all depend on if there is a formal definition of what "maximum compensation" is. It looks as though the AFL had taken in to consideration where $cummy was in his development, and based on their theories, they believe he will be in the same category as Ablett (when he reaches Ablett's age of last year). If there is a document/policy that indicates a capping in terms of compensation, and it is what we got, we've got nothing to fight with. Perhaps this is the area where Cam Schwab would be looking first (probably already had looked), hence why there is nothing from the club.
  2. I am going to ask, and will most likely get shot down, but why do we deserve extra compensation? Especially considering we got equal to what Geelong got for Ablett.
  3. Thanks Dr, didn't realise he got dropped. Sugar Healy would be next in line. Still proves that not many captains get dropped because of poor form.
  4. I don't think the AFL will do anything extra for us Redleg. The whole thing is a vicious circle in my view. The AFL knew we would lost $cummy, but knew, through tanking, that we would still have Trengove. If GWS were to be investigated, it would probably show that we were doing some dodgy things too, therefore, would open a far greater can of worms. Bailey has already hinted that it happened, but Vlad happily swept it under the carpet.
  5. C'mon WJ, just tell us that good one. We, the public, need to hear it!
  6. Not once have I indicated I'm ready with a cricket bat Chook. It'd actually be those that are pumping him hard now that will come out swinging should a player, in their view, not be dropped. It will be interesting to see what he would do if a Brad green-type scenario should arise next season. Our captain (regardless of who it is), down in form, does he continue to play him? I think we were the last club to drop a captain (Sugar Healy in the late 80's/early 90's if I recall correctly). there have been some form slumps by other captains from all teams since then, and to the bes tof my knowledge, none have been dropped. I will just sit back and watch what happens. Unlike some, I'm not hanging on every word spoken, however, I have been enjoying the media coverage we have been getting. And so far, I've been impressed with the actions to date. But there is a long way to go, and I will judge him at the end of his tenure (which is hopefully in 10 years rather than 3).
  7. SS, your first point is spot on. However... Your second and third points are what some supporters are telling themseleves to assist with the healing process. His "frail" body - FFS he is 20. Do you think GWS, as amateur as they appear, would offer a bloke $6m if his knee was fcuked? And the chances of us getting a player as good (if not better) with either of our compo picks in my view are slim. This won't be proven until late 2010's, but my money is on Scully being a lot better than our compo picks put together. So there will not be any icing. $cummy was the cake, anything on top of him (including Trengove), that was the icing. Now we have to hope JT turns out to be the cake, which he might just be. I hope I'm wrong, and that the $6m was about $5.8m over his worth. For some reason I don't think I will be. BUt it's an arguement that can't be won for 6 years+.
  8. Time will tell B59. I'm just worried for those that are up to their balls with this bloke. Don't get me wrong, he sounds like he is on the right track and I sincerley do want to see him succeed. I'm just at a stage where words mean nothing - I want action. I know it's hard for him to show anything more given that we are mid-November of his first season, but just do it.
  9. I find it concerning that people are making concrete comments like this. At the end of the day, Neeld hasn't proved he can coach yet. While it's all good to talk about what he expects, etc, I am confident that there will be a number of threads next seasons about how supporters can't believe <<insert player>> is getting a game when he was clearly substandard the week before. There will always be certain players that get the opportunity to play poorly one week, and still be picked the next. I haven't seen a team yet where it doesn't happen. We are led to believe Neeld is a hard-arse, but to think that if a player will be straight off to Casey if he doesn't play well the week before is not going to happen. It will for some players, but it won't be a "one simple rule for all".
  10. Ned, I am happy to put my hand up and say that I believed in this [censored]. I hadn't been shown evidence not to beleive him. Sure, every journo in the land knew, and most supporters joined them on that ride, but at the end of the day, there is nothing to be proud of if people are beating chests saying "I'm right, you're wrong". In terms of apologising to who I may have insulted? Well, I can't remember if I did insult anyone, perhaps Schwarz. But, I will still not apologise as I felt he continually kicked the Club when it was down, and did a lot of finger pointing with no testicles of doing a "Lyon" and getting in there and helping out. And the moment that he lost me was on his little Sunday footy show, when d!ckhead Sheedy made the comment about who would want to coach Melbourne. Schwarz glared at him, and that's where it stopped. Glared - whoop-de-freakin-do. If he was still 100% Melbourne, he would've tore him a new one, not giving him a "look".
  11. We are in the same league as them, that's where it stops. We're not competing agaisnt them yet, but we will. The big boys play in September, while the kids are on holidays.
  12. Jones - the gap between his strengths and weaknesses will be less and less Moloney - I expect him to go to the next level (could be in Top 3 of the Brownlow in 2012) M Clark - Untapped ability, and will be a top pick up Watts - Actually having a target to reach (through his work with Misson, and knowing what Riewoldt does). Jack is a determined young man, he will thrive.
  13. We're not playing with the big boys yet B59, but we're laying the right foundations now so that when we do, we'll be the bully rather than the bullied!
  14. Bit harsh on Jeff White I would've thought.
  15. It's all about respect. If the players can sit back and say that they have put in 100%, then if they have complaints, people will listen. If you go out and get flogged by 186 points, and it's as plain as day that you're not putting in 100%, why should the FD/Board take too much notice? It's like asking your boss for a payrise. They will ask what you have done to warrant it, if you say "well, I've been here for 6 years now", that won't cut it. You say I've regularly met these targets, achieved this and that, it gives you more fighting power.
  16. Jeff White v Bulldogs
  17. Well actually Old Dee, the posters ould keep to the topic.
  18. Jack Watts' misses in Freo last year were bad misses for both Club and player. In a pretty good year (compared to this one and seasons before it), a win in Perth would've been a big thing.
  19. I can't believe there are 8 posts about callouses, and even worse, people still having differing views. Please Round 1, 2012, HURRY THE F-UP!
  20. Another team in Brisbane will help grow the game, just like another AFL team did in Adelaide, and another one in Perth, and to some extent teh AFL's "expansion club" on the Gold Coast, and now another one in Sydney. The article didn't point out how the battling clubs like Penrith haven't yet gone to the NRL with their hands out. IF the NRL get the expected $1.4b through the TV rights, it will be a massive boost to the NRL and all levels under it. It won't change the AFL's landscape, just as GWS won't change the NRL's landscape.
  21. That's an interesting comment. I have had many arguements with a mate who is a Carlton supporter, but I do believe the Dee's would have won that year. Will never know. There are 2 flags in my lifetime that got away from us - 1987 (as mentioned above), and 1998 when Adelaide defeated North. We flogged the Crows in the final at the G - was by about 8 goals IIRC, then we had to play bloody North in a Friday night Prelim, after they had played some massive amount of Friday night games throughout the year. Sorry for getting off topic. Back on topic, and kick that Grimes does coming out of the backline. Most are important kicks, and he has a terrible habit of stuffing them up.
  22. RPFC, doesn't that article point out that 4 NRL clubs, which are all non-western suburb clubs, are asking for an advancement in their pay. It doesn't say anything about the western suburd clubs getting more money put in to them than other clubs/states. Sorry if I've missed something there. Your last comment about the AFL's spending habits is exactly what the NRL are doing. The NRL are putting money in to areas such as Toowoomba, Central Coast (NSW), the Sunshine Coast, and are hoping to have the Brisbane Bombers kicking off as early as 2013. The NRL has stated previously that they wanted another team playing out of Brisbane, and as they are different to the AFL in terms of new franchise approval, I'm quite sure teh NRL will assist with the funding of this team.
  23. Well done guys, find something in Radar's comments that isn't there, just to try and give your opinion more substance. Radar is not saying that they are unbeatable, he's saying their brand is strong there in their heartland, which it is. It's up to the NRL to ensure it stays that way, and with the AFL trying to establish its own team there, it will keep them on their toes. But to continually hear the tripe about the NRL being scared - AFLSS. They WILL have to be more proactive, no question about it. It will take the NRL to fcuk things up good and proper as opposed to the AFL being agressive. In previous eras, it would be on the cards. The current NRL is a different beast to what used to be.
  24. Interesting to see on Dan Nicholson's twitter; "You no you have a new fitness coach when, the balls of your feet are pretty much one big blister.! #thedeathofme" Seems Mr Misson is making them do a bit of work...
  25. Reminds me of that Family Guy episode when Quagmire first discovers internet pron. Absolute cracker.
