C'mon now Dr, don't let the truth get in the way of a good story. Yes, he played very well at Casey - regularly in their best, and deserved his call up. His first AFL game he was great - 27 possessions. He played 3 more after that, with 12, 15 and 5 posessions respectively. We have a lot of luck with our rookie-listed players, probably more so than most Clubs I'd imagine (without knowing for fact). I just don't get too worked up over rookies when I am looking at my best 22 for future years. If someone pops up out of the blue, just like Junior, Jordie, LJ, etc, then fantastic.

Axis - in 14 days the Olympics will start. Add about 7 days for the athletics, and you will see a track full of hard runners - that doesn't mean they'd be any good at AFL. For me, Pickles hasn't shown a huge amount to warrant an upgrade to our primary list at the end of this season. Please correct me if I'm wrong, but I think it's make or break for him as a rookie his year isn't it?

Trade Talk, Supporter Fatigue and Neeld's Catch-22
The Chazz replied to Range Rover's topic in Melbourne Demons
At the time, I would like to have thought Morton and Blease would be considered part of our midfield. My point is, I'm over the the draft! I know you need to draft players in, but reality is, a majority of the time Clubs will only have 1 first round choice. We have 3 this year. Where we will take Viney in unknown, I'm of the view that it is definitely possible that we will use a 2nd round pick. Is it probable? No-one knows, so don't pretend you do. If we can get him and still have our 3 first round picks available, we must use at least one to attract an established player like Boak. If we get Viney with a 2nd-rounder, I see no issue whatsoever with offering up Pick 4 - we still have Pick 3 and 12-ish = a stronger postion than any other Club. In answer to the OP, we ask for the players to do the team thing, it's what Bailey did as a coach, and I expect/demand Neeld does the same. 3 x 1st round draftee's as well as Viney, in my opinion, isn't the team thing. That's my opinion, given the last 5 years and the state of the list/stage of development. -
Trade Talk, Supporter Fatigue and Neeld's Catch-22
The Chazz replied to Range Rover's topic in Melbourne Demons
What about Blease, Watts, Morton, Strauss? These are all first round selections that at some stage we all would've said "imagine when they start playing with <<insert senior players names>>". Now I'm hearing "add Viney, Toumpass, Wines, etc to our list and it's starting to look alright". When will it stop? Then people are still wanting to trade for the 17 year old draft. I'm not sure what I think. One minute I'm just wishing that our so-called best players, or in my opinion, the ones that should be (ie high draft picks), could have a preseason where they are all on the park, and can actually play some consistent footy with each other through a season. The players like Trengove, Watts, Blease, Morton, Tapscott, Gysberts, Jones, Strauss, Grimes, Frawley, Cook. These are basically the "top shelf" of what we picked up in the recent shite times, and it's semi-comforting to know that not once have they all played in the same team. The next minute I'm just questioning if they are any friggin good, and I'm just not sure. They're good, but are they good enough to win a flag? For half a decade we have put up with poor performances, admittingly there have been genuine "excuses", such as debt, training facilities. But I've had enough. It's not just the last 5 years for me - the last 5 years has topped it off. With no onfield sign of improvement, it is a total disgrace, and amazingly (I never, ever thought I'd say the words), is losing me as a supporter. -
WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - JACK VINEY

For your information, I don't rate Emma that highly. Just shows how low I rate a no-name on BF. The only opinion I rate is that of the MFC. So in response to your last sentence, you know nothing about what I think. Keep guessing BH, I will let you know when you are close to the mark. Keep making uninformed guesses about my thoughts as it does amuse me how right you think you are, when you are actually so, so wrong. -
Not one ounce of disagreement here Old Dee. The one I'm disappointed about is Tapscott, thought he was our version of Chapman, but that said, the geelong faithful were quite impatient with Chappy in his early years.

WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - JACK VINEY
The Chazz replied to einstein251's topic in Melbourne Demons
Ben, I'm not sure why that post was directed at me. I was replying to RP's ramping of JV prior to last Friday's game. As far as RP was concerned, he was going to get best on ground and show why he is worth every bit of a Pick 1-3. It was a tounge-in-cheek comment to RP. FWIW, I too believe that Viney would be a welcome addition to our side. Is he "exactly what we need"? If he is a quality player, my bloody oath he is what we need as we are lacking in that area at the moment. In regards to the guy on BF that you follow; I don't read BF. I read Emma Quayle's articles regarding drafting, and she has Jack between 5-10. Personally, I rate Emma's articles over some average Joe on a footy forum. She also said that this wasn't the Super Draft that it was being hyped as. The top end was very, very good, but there wasn't the great depth that a lot believe. Your comments about Martin Bryant and Julian Knight are inappropriate. Absolutely no need to use them in any comparison, especially on a football forum. -

How much did he tear it up on Friday RP? Was it to your expectation? -
If we were to introduce Viney and Boak, the players that would be under most pressure to retain their spots would be Bail and (as much as I wish it wasn't so) Tapscott. Oucher is close to the money regarding midfield rotations, but I think it's more like 12-14 players. I'm pretty sure Schwab mentioned this on Twitter a season or two ago.

Beautifully written, and we all saw the importance of Ling in the Geelong dynasty. I was actually a bit disappointed he didn't run with Black for the entire game on Sunday, such is the confidence I have in Jordie.
-
If our forwards are playing in front (like a forward should), and providing the opposition don't have a loose man back, then it shouldn't matter too much what his kicking is like going forward *in particular when he hasn't got time to steady and can only go the long kick to a contest.

We got Clark for 12 because they didn't accept 14 from Freo. If Geelong took Pick 28 for Mumford, I don't think we should go offering them Pick 12 for West.
-
Who is to say that the eligible 17 year olds are going to be worth Pick 3? We may find that we are giving up Pick 3, for a player that may go Pick 10+ in the normal draft. O'Meara was an apparent lock for Top 3 in a normal draft, Crouch was considered 5-10 (from memory), but was the 2nd best player available in the mini draft. I haven't heard of any O'Meara-types in this year's mini dradt (ie. a player that is likely to go top 3 next year). I have faith in the Club that we will have Pick 3, 4 and 12 in this year's draft, and Viney comes to us in the 2nd round. That would be a win, and we won't have to do 2 things, make a secret deal with GC/GWS and we won't have to sit here for the next 18 months waiting for said 17 year old to start playing for us and having to put up with numerous threads about how they will be the next best thing. It also means we can start to get a bit of stability with our list so we can chase a premiership rather than high draft picks.
-
Clark would appear better value than West, we paid Pick 12 for Clark, so your call of Pick 12 plus a player for West seems overpaying for West.

I'm sure you would find a likely punter on here who would kindly direct you!

Mods - can we PLEASE get a thread pinned outling the rules of the F/S process?
-
Old, your thoughts on starting Jamar at FF, Cook CHF, Martin Ruck this week against a lacking Richmond backline and Ivan?
-
I always find these types of comments amusing. We've used a first round pick on an U18 AA CHF who has been on our list for a couple of years, is still growing, and has kick 9 goals in the last 3 weeks at Casey, however, we prefer to believe that a mature age rookie who had been playing in EFL could take on the role that we hoped a first rounder would take.
-
Absolutely it is sorted before the trade period. Some on here want to make "gentleman agreements" with GWS or GC prior to the F/S selections, so that they (GC/GWS) don't bid for Viney as there will be a "deal" coming their way from the MFC during trade week/month/how ever long it is these days. Of course, these deals can't be made public, as the AFL will consider it draft tampering.

I don't think Geelong would be chasing Cloke - pretty sure they'd be happy with the 2 tall forwards they have (who I wouldn't rate in the same class as Cloke).
-
Dr, maybe you can answer me this one. What 17 year old that is eligible for this years mini draft (keeping in mind not all 17 year olds are eligible) is worth giving up pick 3 or 4 for, just so we can get Viney with a 2nd round pick?
-
How? Not Jeremy.

That's right McQueen, Chunk does far too much surfing in his spare time to be a Captain. Said right from the start of the year that Neeld's first mistake was appointing the pair of Jack's as captains, especially the Trengove one, but it would be a greater mistake demoting them both next year. I wouldn't be surprised if Grimes stays on as Captain and Trengove Vice Captain.

It's not back to the drawing board at all BH. The fact is, and you have proven my point, the value that Sydney would see in Sylvia probably isn't shared amongst the other 7 clubs in the top 8. I strongly doubt Rivers would be welcomed at Collingwood - they showed how easily he can be exposed last year. But that's not the say Hawthorn wouldn't take him. Same as Howe - I couldn't see him getting a game at Geelong at the moment, they have too many similar players - he would be a fringe player at best. I think the 3 names I mentioned would be welcomed (ie in the starting 21/22) by most clubs in the top 8. If you did an individual analysis on each top 8 team, sure there would be other names, but the regular performers would be those 3. Edit - tidying my post up!

I keep heearing about Frawley's poor game, and I have to admit, I didn't fully concentrate on the game yesterday, but didn't he keep Brown to 1 goal?
