WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - BILLY STRETCH
Dr. Gonzo replied to e25's topic in Melbourne Demons
Haha notsureifserious? He is 15 and you want to write him off already??? -
Yeah that's fair - I would still prefer Caddy he seems to have a bigger build and seems more of a goalkicker but if Boak is available for our mid first round comp pick after having ruled out Caddy then I wouldn't be unhappy to get him. Wouldn't really want to pay pick 4 though (unless we can get Viney in 2nd round) and would want to rule out Caddy first. No reason we can't make a play for both though and see what happens.
-
To put it into perspective though Moloney's never kicked 10 or more in a season for us and Boak is about on par with Jones for how many he has kicked. I can't think of any other midfielders on our list who can kick regular goals (Trengove last year but not this year).
-
Can we merge the Boak threads? No need for two separate ones discussing the same thing.
-
Love it how Rucci makes the jump from "leaving Port" to "heading to Geelong" with no thought of the in-between need for an actual trade. If he forced their hand and went to the draft I would take him with pick 13 which will be before Geelong's first pick assuming they don't trade for an earlier one - call his bluff this time doubt he will sit out for a year like Ball threatened to.
-
Posted that link on one of the other threads, despite what they say he is gone, only issue is where. We can offer money and reasonable trade so should be in the box seat (or at least get involved in a 3-way trade).
-
The thing you have to remember is Caddy is a kid as well. It's only his second season so it's not like he's over the hill. The benefit you would get over drafting an under 18 kid is that he has already had two seasons in the system, is more physically developed and is a known quantity at AFL level. That's the reason I'd love to get him for our mid first round comp pick & something else if possible. Not sure I'd want to part with pick 4 for him (or Boak for that matter) but if we got something else back I could deal with that.

Articles on AFL.com.au about Caddy http://www.afl.com.au/news/newsarticle/tabid/208/newsid/140850/default.aspx and Boak http://ww.afl.com.au/news/newsarticle/tabid/208/newsid/140878/default.aspx Sounds like at least Boak will be on the move and Caddy seems a more likely than not proposition at this stage but you never know.
-
Damn that's annoying - oh well would rather Caddy anyway if we can get him, either him or Boak. Not really too fussed with the other available midfielders, don't think we should be going after a Beams. I know I've said in the past that we shun the players with "bad boy" images like Darling for example but Beams seems like an A-grade scumbag off-field, not someone we need.
-
That's the only thing saving Moloney I reckon. Davey is contracted and Green looks past it but could get another year. Dunn can go and Sylvia has a role.
-
I meant he's been consistently poor - those stats show a drop off in output over his 5 games this year but it's not like he was getting 20 touches a week and dominating games before this year.
-
Yeah Prestia been injured I think which is why I haven't seen much of him this year. Edit: oh and goal kicking mids are exactly what we need and he showed today he knows where the sticks are.
-
Bennell hasn't gone backwards, to suggest so is a fallacy. He has maintained a consistent output since 2010.
-
Yeah if we can wrap both of them up in a trade somehow we should be aggressively going after this and be in their managers ears right now.
-
Watched most of the GC game today and Caddy ripped it up looked like he would easily slot into our midfield if we got him. Not sure on Prestia because I haven't seen enough but if we have a chance to get Caddy get it done.
-
I agree to an extent with this but that doesn't fall at Neeld's feet. Bailey had him for 3 years and didn't develop him but Neeld after 9 months is supposed to have made him into the next Andrew McLeod? Does not compute.
-
Would rather see Cook get a gig than Martin Dunn or Bate spudding it up again. You never know what the kids might show when you give them a crack McDonald seems to have done OK since coming in and you wouldn't really say he was blitzing the VFL for months before coming in.
-
Those who think Neeld is a failure or the reason for our current situation or think that they are able to judge him based on his coaching career so far are an absolute joke and so far out of touch with reality it is not funny. That's not to say Neeld will prove a success but the man has to be given a chance to prove himself and create the list he wants. Also lol at those indicating our players were playing well and on the up last season. I really loved watching them embarrass themselves with bruise free footy on Friday night football, capitulate in dramatic fashion against the Eagles in Perth and reach the dizzying heights of 186 in Geelong. Bring back those heady days I say! Way too many of our players are absolute rubbish and/or lazy and that has nothing to do with Neeld or the current FD.
-
I agree but the problem we have is the mature players haven't/aren't fully earning their crack at AFL level either.
-
I understand the sentiment but why should I pay $500+ a year and waste my weekends watching pre-season training. This club needs to start getting real and either play/win each game on its merits or do the right thing and blatantly tank for last so we get picks 1, 2, 12ish & Viney.
-
Green has had a very solid career but it's time to acknowledge its over and bow out. No need to stick the boots in he's not a spud, he's just over the hill (in football terms).
-
Im happy with Jordie for 3 but would have swapped Garland's 3 with McDonald's 2.
-
I do agree and I was venting to a certain extent but I am just sick of looking forward to November by May every single year. Two or three years you can cop but we are into our 6th season of this now and we don't seem to be progressing anywhere it is just depressing. Of course we still haven't seen much from Gysberts or Strauss and hopefully Gawn can get over his injuries - I also think Trengove cannot be as bad as he has been this year again and Tapscott & Blease (assuming we keep him) have shown good signs and will get better. That is the "glass half full" view and even that isn't that optimistic. But that is where I'm at with the Demons these days, wild swings from being angry & depressed to being optimistic & hopeful and not much in between like some sort of bipolar mental patient.
-
I'm just about ready for them to pack it in and out us all out of our misery. When you continually see players give half hearted chases/tackles/efforts and continually see players who are paid professionals butcher the ball under no pressure, handball to players under pressure and kick it on top of teammates heads instead of to their advantage you just think what's the bloody point? That's without even mentioning the clearances. I've had enough of this utter rubbish and I don't care that Clark and Jamar weren't playing either that is no excuse. I don't even hold out any hope that we can get some decent players in through the draft look at Trengove, Watts and Morton all high draft picks but it means absolutely nothing if you can't develop them into A-grade players. So you can stick your Stringer/Toumpas/Wines/Viney talk because I want to see players do it once they're wearing an MFC jumper not when their still playing juniors FFS.
-
Watts can take a contested mark put him in the bloody forward line like he was recruited for and send Rivers back.
