Well I was one who was pushing for Petty to go forward but I think it's time to put the experiment to rest. He hasn't really had a great impact, not hitting the scoreboard enough, not taking enough marks and it's weakened our backline. Was good to try out but I think Petty back to defense and Brown coming in needs to happen this week so Petty can regain some synergy with the backline before taking on Port. It's a good trick to have up our sleeve if required but he should be played primarily in defense.

Honestly I can't believe the absolute muppets on other boards (BigFooty) and social media claiming the Suns were robbed by the umps last night. Watching the game I thought we were getting a raw deal and got a couple back at the end. Suns were unlucky with a couple but seriously they wouldn't have been close if the umps didn't gift them a bunch of goals in the 3rd. I feel like I'm not one-eyed either, last week I thought we were looked after by the umps, North were pretty hard done by (not that it would have made a difference). I thought we were lucky not to get the whistle blown against us a couple of times in the final quarter last night but for the first 3 quarters we were pretty bloody stiff.

Far more important to show vision of Ben King's goals from 3 weeks ago than to show a replay of the free kick which led to his goals last night 🙄

Fritsch did similar a few minutes before that, could have centred the ball but took a shot from deep in the pocket instead. We really shot ourselves in the foot in the last quarter, should have put them away earlier.

Agree Spargo should come in. Disagree Chandler should go out. He's been great this year, had a bad one last night but still kicked a magnificent goal on quarter time.

Like the "interpretation" of not paying advantage out of a stoppage free kick. Was that an interpretation or a rule? And when did it change (if at all)? Because last night they seemed pretty happy to pay advantage after play had stopped to figure out where the free kick was going.

They changed that rule a couple of years back, it's not an automatic free kick anymore.

Sure. Bit without Fritsch's three shanks, Viney's shank etc we win comfortably. Even if Macpherson kicks the goal we still come away with a draw not a loss.

Ben King gifted two goals in the 3rd, Hunter paid HTB after cleanly habdballing it away, May getting knocked down after a mark and no 50, multiple occasions of paying a free out of a stoppage only for advantage to be paid after players have all stopped to see which way the free kick is going (the umpires are not meant to pay advantage out of a stoppage) etc etc Plenty more examples if I could be bothered to go back and check.

May was fine tonight, played pretty well overall.

It was actually a good game, very tough and contested, pretty scrappy due to the pressure and conditions. Maybe frustrating watching from an MFC perspective but was a good game for a neutral.

Finally, someone who doesn't watch the match like it's a video game.

Oh and Brad Johnson can get stuffed, trying to get JVR suspended for trying to spoil a mark and yet not a peep about Chol's far worse swinging forearm to Bowey's head in the 2nd. Dunstall and King trying to will the Sun's over the line and point out frees they should've got but no reviews of the dodgy ones they did get which handed them goals on a platter. Pathetic from the broadcasters but I expect nothing less.

Suns came to play and had a real dip. They are not a bad side when on and the conditions seemed pretty greasy. Was a tough contested game of footy and we took the 4 points, not sure what some here are whinging about. We got a couple of decisions go our way in the last but overall I thought the umpires were absolutely putrid again tonight. Some dodgy frees going their way right in front of goal that fox footy refused to show replays of so we have no idea what they were actually for or whether they were there. You have umps paying frees at stoppages and then blowing advantage once everyone has stopped to see whose free kick it is (I thought they weren't allowed to pay advantage out of a stoppage? Or was that another "interpretation" that only existed for a week or two until they decide to roll it out again?) You had May getting knocked down after taking a mark, no 50. Hunter called HTB after getting a clean handball away, get how many times did they just throw/drop it out of the tackle and nothing? There were numerous other umpiring calls that seemed to be solely about keeping the Suns in the game. I can understand home cooked umpiring in WA and SA but on the Gold Coast where we probably had as many supporters as they did? Give me a spell. Fritsch missed three set shots he usually wouldn't, Rivers coughed up that goal in the last and another where we fumbled and fell to ground. Kozzy and Chandler were pretty quiet, I thought Jordon should've been subbed off instead of Turner especially with their tall forwards troubling us. Overall this was a tough game of footy and a lot of players looked spent in the last 5-10 minutes. We had all the run until the stop in play to allow Ballard to go off and that seemed to turn the momentum a bit as Anderson kicked a goal shortly after, had we got the next one it was probably lights out. But the game followed the same pattern each quarter we got out to a few goals then they reeled us in. Rowell and Anderson were great around the contest and Swallow did a decent job on Clarry. The Suns aren't a bad side they've just been underperforming. They rolled the Cats only a few weeks ago let's not forget. But apparently some on here are writing us off based on not winning well enough 🤦‍♂️ I thought it was a gutsy win and class won out in the end. Yes we got let off the hook with that last shot at goal but so what. How many times has the shoe been on the other foot over the years, it's nice that we can finally scrap wins when not playing at our best. Bank the 4 points and move on to next week, and for those who are sooking it up take a look at the ladder, we are currently on top.

Yeah but they got about 3 goals from frees that weren't there in the 3rd so swing and roundabouts.

We usually are troubled by their small forwards too - Rankine (who is at the Crows now) and Sexton (who has been playing sub). Combined with Miller out we really should account for them but wouldn't be surprised if they push us to the last quarter. Anything above a 4 goal win will be a great result.

Will be interesting if that happens, will leave Longmuir with a very difficult decision. Do the Hawks even have a ruckman of note? If Mitch Lewis learns to kick straight he will be unstoppable. One of the best contested marks in the game at the moment.

Is he envious of the facilities players at other clubs have access to or is it a non-factor for him? What is the biggest difference between Selwyn Griffiths program and that of Darren Burgess? Please thank him for bringing a level of competitiveness and ruthlessness I had been waiting for for decades at the club. He is easily the best full back the club has had in the modern era.
