Time to go Goody?
Bad kicking is bad football. So yes, the goal kicking played a major part of the loss. But we weren’t ‘on’ from the get go. It looked bad early on. Why were we not prepared and ready to go? If the players were ready for the style of game how come they didn’t respond? If it’s on the players as some suggest, then why did the Board and Footy Dept state finals were a pass mark for this group? None of this makes sense to me.

POSTGAME: Rd 12 vs St. Kilda
Not to speak for someone else but I think the overall head to head is irrelevant. Lyon got Goody cold today. The players weren’t up for it and we didn’t do much/anything to respond to Lyon’s plan. To look at the result as anything other than a spanking across the board is doing the Saints and their coaches a disservice.

POSTGAME: Rd 12 vs St. Kilda
The lack of pressure was just so incredibly frustrating to watch on TV. I had people at the ground messaging me how poorly we responded to StKilda’s setup. They were transitioning at speed and with little pressure from us. Every time the Saints got the ball at half back we looked out positioned already. I’m on record for thinking Goody isn’t the guy for us so no point beating that drum, BUT when is the last time we’ve being challenged like we were today and the coaches have changed something to help us win the game? Lyon had a plan and the Saints delivered.

POSTGAME: Rd 12 vs St. Kilda
So did our players apparently. We were not prepared to get in a fight today. No intensity. The last quarter was appalling.

GAMEDAY: Rd 12 vs St. Kilda
Not sure why people are having a crack at Healy’s commentary. He clearly thinks we are the better side and should win. Like us, I think he’s found our uneven effort after working so hard over the last month confounding. I agree with him.

GAMEDAY: Rd 12 vs St. Kilda
If Johnson played for another team I’d hate him for his fake toughness.

GAMEDAY: Rd 12 vs St. Kilda
Not based off today’s commentary. We are awful. Effort should never be in question. But it is with us this season.

GAMEDAY: Rd 12 vs St. Kilda
This. Our defenders back themselves to close space but they can’t do anything with zero pressure in the forward line and midfield

It’s work rate and discipline. We are asleep at the wheel

The Jake Melksham appreciation thread
I opened this thread thinking that maybe he’d announced that this would be his last year. It won’t be if he stays healthy and continues to play the way he has.

PREGAME: Rd 12 vs St. Kilda
Spargo broken scapula. I broke my right scap in a bike stack. It’s super hard to brake as it’s covered in muscle. Must’ve been a big whack.

What are they saying at Moore Park?
I’ll admit, I can get lippy at the footy when provoked. And I am really good at it. As such I’ve had run ins with: Adelaide: we played them on the Goldy. The people in front of me said that I clapped too loudly. Called me Vic Pric. So I leaned forward and clapped louder and started talking about how good Formula One is and how Victoria is the home of footy. They left. Carlton: 2000 QF. Carlton Cheer squad gave it to a group of us all day. We constantly gave it back but were way outnumbered. All in good fun until we were physically threatened by a group of 10 blokes. They ended up getting removed by the police after their own fans dobbed them in. Collingwood: Hit over the head with an umbrella by an elderly toothless (seriously) Collingwood supporter when I was 12. I was literally just sitting on my seat when she did it. Plenty of other stories about those muppets. Essendon: Windy Hill….. every time. Fremantle: The Wonna game. Trailing by 51 points but still cheering. Was told to be quiet by a couple of Freo Execs. “Know when you’re beaten mate”…. They were so arrogant. That was a great day! West Coast: 2018 Prelim. Attended a club function at the ground so left pretty late. Was accosted by 4 WCE fans who were hammered outside the ground. Trying to pick a fight calling me all sorts of names. North Melbourne: We were getting belted by the Kangas but I didn’t give up cheering when we did something good. Was told I was “drunk and stupid”. I corrected them and told them I was “drunk and handsome”. Started chanting Gold Coast whenever they kicked a goal. They left. Geelong: they were pretty good actually but the Hawkins breakout game was pretty bad. Constantly abused and told to go home. Had food thrown at us. At the end of the game a small amount of their supporters said that they wished the club all the best for supporters like me/us. I was at 187 and got a few pats on the back which was nice. I’m not a fighter and never started any of the above. But I don’t like being backed into a corner or have opposition supporters act in a aggressive or demanding way towards our club and supporters. And I don’t swear.

Geelong to be fined over 3rd party payments
If they’re not guilty it should only cost them half a mill and 2-3 first round picks. That’s how it works right?!

POSTGAME: Rd 11 vs Sydney
Can’t remember which quarter it was but definitely in the first half, when Langford had a chance to apply some tackling pressure around the F50. He missed a tackle only to see Sparrow fly through and perform the correct procedure. I’ve really enjoyed watching Sparrow as a forward. He’s big, strong, desperate and can kick for goal. Also, Chin. I just love him. He’s a self made man in the team. Done it the hard way and is now in the 1st dozen selected. To top it off, he’s the nicest human. He’s just a bloody legend. The forward pressure by some of our less known players has really spiked this year, particularly recently.

CASEY: Rd 09 vs Northern Bullants
Agreed. This is a complete non event for the key stakeholders.

NON-MFC: Round 11
At least we don’t support the 2 clubs playing tonight.

NON-MFC: Round 11
The umps were bad as was the Dogs goal kicking BUT how interesting from a Demons perspective that neither team could stop the other from scoring. It actually gave me hope that we could beat the Dogs if we can continue to improve ball movement and maintain some defensive structure.

The Hypothetical
Listening to Hawthorn supporters scream out ‘the Wiz’ is infuriating. There is only one Wiz!

Time to go Goody?
I’ve had a few cracks at the predictor too and it seems like the difference between the top 8-9 clubs and the bottom 6-7 is pretty large. If that plays out to be true, we’ll need 13 wins to get in. Not sure we can get to that figure. If we make a run and just miss out, I’d expect Goody to see out his contract and coach in 26. I’m not convinced he’s the right person still, but I think Jaded mentioned that we could probably do a better job with surrounding him with more talented coaches and admin. That would allow him to play to his strengths in player management etc. That’s probably a good place to start.

The Kalani White Thread
I think he is considered a little bit position-less. Not quite a forward, not quite a back and only recently showing signs as a ruck. I see that as a blank canvas to work with. But one club that I know of thinks he will take a fair bit of time and has average hands. I’d be rapt to get him though. He can kick, elite athlete and apparently has a good head on his shoulders. His old man overcame what I would say, were not elite hands overhead, by jumping over blokes and taking chest marks. Kalani could do the same. We can also expose him to the work habits and expertise of the greatest ruckman of the last decade. There’s no downside here. Here, no downside.

Welcome to Demonland: Jacob Van Rooyen
Haha… I’ll preface this with the fact that I work in tech and yet am a complete luddite when it comes to searching for threads and posts on a forum. I remember having an interesting back and forth with the effectiveness of JVR with @binman I enjoyed his perspective from a data analytics view point. I was curious to know if there is something tangible we can point to that he is clearly doing differently? A larger forward who can kick a few goals would be a nice cherry on the top and JVR is our only option.

Luke Jackson back to Victoria?
I think as a group of fans we tend to overrate our own a little. Until they can show something at senior level or a specific elite trait at the VFL level, players like Woewodin, Laurie, Jefferson, Howes, Adams, Verall, Sestan, Mentha, Brown, Henderson, Johnson, Kentfield, AMW and Culley have no trade value. That’s not to say they won’t make it as AFL players, it’s just that they are unproven. Spargo,Billings, Hore & Sharp also would limited appeal. If we are looking to trade out players with market value, we’d need to be prepared to say goodbye to a Premiership player like Fritsch and or one of our more fancied youngster’s like JVR. It’s not ideal but could be done if required.

Luke Jackson back to Victoria?
Not specific to Jackson but I love a bit of misinformation coming from our club aimed at other clubs. It’s about bloody time!

VOTES: Rd 10 vs Brisbane
Bowey has got back to that (good) arrogant stage where he takes on kicks of all angles and nails them. He was good today. Again. Rivers was great. Only played 88 min of game time though. I assume there’s a reason for that?
