  1. Which is why I think we're floating the idea via the press.
  2. Yep, it feels very much like a Lewis or Mitchell thing. I just wonder if we're the ones who have floated this. Jack slowed down this year and I reckon he's got 1-2 more years of brutal good footy left in him. If he could get a longer deal at North it might make sense for his family. The idea of seeing him run around in another jumper, particularly a North jumper is gross though.
  3. Of course, I just meant creating pressure from the media end.
  4. How JUH escaped scrutiny? For what?
  5. Cornes is doing what we'd hope Lyon would do for us. Pump up Houston's value so Cornes' club gets a premium return.
  6. Dusty was in a very similar position and Richmond signed him to a long term deal. His off field challenges didn't seem to have a major impact on team culture between 2021-2023.
  7. Hang on, what's this mate?
  8. Agree with all this except the Kalani "might choose us". Crazy sort of wrist slashing mate.
  9. Ridiculous revisionism. When we re-signed Clarry he was the best midfielder in the game, and x3 (or was it x4 at that stage?) best and fairest, x2 AFLCA award winner, x3 AA and premiership player. Sometimes I wonder if people are serious on here...
  10. Inside knowledge or just a feeling?
  11. Reminds me of Gulden and Blakey, but with a tougher edge. Lalor looks great too. Still like Draper's burst from stoppage, but Langford has the burst from stoppage and ball use.
  12. He's a nice kick, maybe if we trade Fritta, but I'd prefer Wright. We don't want too many who struggle at ground level in.our forward half.
  13. WHICH MEANS MAYBE GOODY'S PRESSER TODAY LAYS THE GROUND WORK FOR A JEFFERSON DEBUT NEXT WEEK?
  14. I'm fine with loading up with picks this year in an even draft, knowing we have a good NGA prospect and a F/S next year.
  15. It's likely the AFL will bring in the trading of future 2026 picks this year. If that's the case, I'd be landing Houston and then using the other first rounders to be getting at least 1 2024 first rounder.
  16. Yeah, don't agree. And JVR is a really good second ruck, but I prefer him focusing on marking and kicking goals. He fatigues way earlier as a forward because of his ruck work. He gets to contests and he's so stuffed he can barely get his hands up to mark. Take it off his shoulders and he'll kick 35-40 goals as a KPF.
  17. Price dependent of course, but the more I think about recruiting Peter Wright, the more I like it. It solves our second ruck problem, it also gives JVR and Turner an older, bigger foil, and releases Petty back to defence or pushes Turner out. ANB Wright Trac Kozzy JVR Fritta With Turner, Spargo and Chandler (and McAdam?) to take the other one or two spots. That's got a good mix to it. Wright the only one not great at ground level, and Fritta needs to lift his game defensively, but otherwise you've got 4 guys that like to swarm at ground level. If we can bring in Houston and/or Cumming, *and* keep our 2024 first rounder, it would be a dream trade and draft period IMO.
  18. There was friction between the assistants up to the end of 2019. That was 5 years ago. Also, I guarantee you that 99% of AFL coaches are "autocratic with the assistant coaches and match committee". They have final say, because the buck stops with them. Is this really that much of a surprise?
  19. You really think an autocratic coach would last as long as he has and keep all the players onside? Have you ever dealt with anyone under the age of 30? Autocratic coaching styles do not work anymore. Why did he sign on then? Because we have so many poor coaches and poor players? That's you inference... Sure, but do you think 9 years into being amongst our core players (with 2 of those under Roos), wouldn't have given our players time to assess this, and that they'd be switched on enough to know it was all going to go south because he was a walk over? You don't win AFL flags unless you hold players to a high standard. To think any different (and I'm not saying you are) is naive in the extreme. It is a cutthroat industry with 17 other competitors. My family has connections with three players on the current list and I can categorically tell you Goody is not "soft", nor does he let the tail wag the dog, because again, that could be the inference here. But this doesn't mean he is a coach that shouts his head off either. Management is a balance. My understanding is Goody has the balance nicely set.
  20. If getting Peter Wright allows JVR to play KPF without having to second ruck, I expect him to explode next year. A forwardline of: ANB Wright Trac Koz JVR Fritta With Turner and maybe Spargo on the bench, with Chandler in reserve is pretty tasty IMO. Almost tempted to do a Werridee and smash up a best 22. Particularly, if Houston and a 2024 first rounder can all be landed.
  21. Maybe a Brayshaw or Serong pops out the other end of the salary cap...
  22. I don't think Salo was ever a good aggressive kick. He was a highly reliable short kick under pressure. Bowser's kicking has gone off a bit this season. I wouldn't mind him being one of our aggressive kickers. I think the FD may agree with you given who we're supposedly targeting in Cumming and Houston. As I note above, I think we can use faster, more aggressive players as +1s at contest with licence to attack. Rivers, Windsor, Bowey, McVee and AMW. That's the difference between this year and 2018. We haven't gone +1, we've finally evened up numbers at the contest. I want us to be more aggressive at stoppage. FWIW, if we get those half back flankers in Cumming and/or Houston, we'd probably be even more damaging with +1 at stoppage. I think we need at least one, if not two young mids to join a slowing Viney, a stuttering and defensive Sparrow, and hopefully a rejuvenated Clarry. Be interesting to see which way we go.
  23. Yep, somehow retain the shape of 2021-2023 and the ball use of 2018. I think actually it's doable. Crudely, it just means we change the way we are prepared to move the ball, which may lead to more scores against, but the better shape behind the ball should prevent huge leakages. I do wonder if this is ultimately what we've been trying this year, it just didn't work.
  24. It's basically the Selwyn role under Burgo.
  25. Where are we at now for Jefferson's goal tally this year? He must be above 30 now, that's with a few games early in season in defence.
