I haven't seen much Herzog, but 'Aguirre, the Wrath of God' has been on my list for a while. Criterion remastered it, didn't they? The only Herzog film I've seen is 'Grizzly Man'. But I completely agree. He is hilarious. I particularly like this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m9P_sxaaMJE. There's also Herzog discussing chickens. That's even better. That might even be extracted from Harmony Korine's film 'Julien Donkey Boy'. I can't quite remember. NOTE. You've inspired me. I'm getting 'Aguirre' as I type this.

I saw 'Captain Phillips' last night. Wasn't expecting much. Thought the premise was decidedly problematic. The black guys are the villains. Well done, America. It was also a two hour advertisement for the US Navy. However, Tom Hanks is terrific in it and the film itself is riveting from just about the moment it starts. It tries to humanise the pirates, but in the end there's not a whole lot to them. If you're looking for a taut action thriller, it's certainly worth a look.

Oh, I didn't realise it was a McCarthy novel. Interessant. I shall check it out.

Exactly, Robbie. These are the sorts of players Roos would have picked up for picks in the 40s back in Sydney. We simply need to offer these guys lucrative deals and the promise of consistent AFL footy. I guess the difference is a lot of these guys we're going after are contracted, so we have a bit of convincing to do to get their current clubs on board with the deal.

Sorry RM, Adelaide would not exactly be licking their lips over Tapscott. That is not a win. They get a list clogger. Yeah, that looks pretty good for the MFC and Freo. Adelaide are being shafted in that one. I can't see it happening myself. If it does, great!

I have the Breaking Bad pilot script. I've always loved the fact that Jesse's name was originally Dupree. I agree, guys. Really fitting ending to one of my favourite shows of all time. I can't split it or 'The Shield' for best ending.

Haven't seen 'The Snake Pit'. Sounds a little Hitchcockian or Cabinet of Calagariesque. Off to download that one. Have you seen 'Twisted Nerve', HT? Great little thriller. You probably know that Tarantino used Hermann's theme in Kill Bill. Oh and also, on Wages of Fear, I found it mind-numbling dull, having had it hyped to me. But Clouzot's 'Les Diabolique' is probably one of the greatest films ever made.

Seen Casino Royale? That has a black & white pre title sequence.

'Frances Ha' is a bizarre film. The first half is like a poorly acted, scripted and shot student film. The second half brings into focus the neurotic, self-important mutterings of its middle/upper class director. It reminded me of a poorer version of GIRLS, which I find has similar flaws. "Oh, it's so tough being a middle class white kid. How ever will I afford my $4,000 per week apartment? Don't live there then, [censored]." End rant.

I like it, but I actually think we did it better with 'Chopper'. It has more style than 'Chopper' though. Very much trying to channel something out of Kubrick's 'A Clockwork Orange'.

Got 'What's Up Tiger Lilly' the other day. Will probably watch it over the weekend. I concur in a sense RE: the uniqueness. Particularly true of his early films. Whereas, films like 'Manhattan' and 'Husbands & Wives' carry strong similarities (falling for a woman that are way too young for the male character) and he's pretty much always divorcing someone or being divorced. 'Shadows & Fog' is a great little homage, but I found it a little dull and I'm a big fan of German Expressionism. 'Sleeper' is amazing though.

I was the same until I saw 'Hannah & Her Sisters'. I didn't get 'Annie Hall' the first two times I watched it. Wasn't for me. Haven't re-watched it since, but Hannah is just a brilliant film. 'Husbands & Wives' is the other classic. 'Love & Death' is awesome. 'Interiors' is dramatic, but if you like Bergman (as I do), you'll love it.

I reckon she'll romp it home. Allen's leading ladies usually do alright come nomination time anyway.

And hopefully it's a better conclusion than bloody Dexter's plot device riddled, contrived ending.

I've watched a little bit of 'Talking Bad', hadn't caught the podcast. One episode left! Cannot wait.

My love for cinema began with James Bond as a young fella, so I certainly love a spectacle film. Obviously, Nolan's Batman trilogy fits that nicely too. Haven't seen any of the X-Men films. Heard he was great in that though. Never ended up seeing the second or third Matrix films. I didn't mind the tv-series. Prefer MacGyver though. The film was scored by James Bond composer David Arnold, so that gives it an edge too. I'll give the trilogy a go, I'm sure.

I'd put 'The Shield' before 'The Wire'.

That's what I do. My girlfriend can't binge watch like I can. I prefer having shows that I watch just with her and then the shows that I can steam through. You gotta do 'Breaking Bad'. It's certainly one of the greatest shows ever made. I watched the first season of 'The Walking Dead' when it first came out. I was kind of meh on it. Still am. Haven't bothered to jump back into it, although the girlfriend loves it. If you haven't seen the following, highly recommended: 'The Shield', 'Damages', 'Mad Men', 'Sons of Anarchy' (created by one of the co-writers of 'The Shield'), 'Oz', 'The Wire' & 'The Sopranos' (both are good, but overrated), 'Justified' and then the classic that started it all, 'Twin Peaks'.

My feeling RE: 'Dark City' and what I know about it is its influence. It beat 'The Matrix' to the punch and seems to have even more style than that film, which is hard to believe. I might watch it tomorrow night and back that up. I can't remember which cut of 'Blade Runner' I've seen. I have a feeling it was the Director's Cut, but the film hasn't stayed with me. Fassbender's awesome, but I quite enjoyed 'Prometheus'. I guess I enjoyed it in a similar way you enjoyed 'The Fifth Element', Choke. It was a bit of a spectacle, which I'm fine with once in a while.

Been meaning to watch all of 'Dark City'. Saw bits of it in school and then film school. Eraserhead is brilliant and the cinematography and music in Bladerunner is amazing. Not the biggest fan of 'The Fifth Element' though.

My god, Breaking Bad's third last episode. Crazy. Just crazy.
