  1. I think we're backing our mids to win the day and our half forwards/forward press to prevent quick GCS rebound from half back. If we can do that, we can probably restrict them enough. I'm not super confident though.
  2. Hopefully we'll have one of those guys in our midfield next year to strengthen it even further, mate.
  3. That does happen in teams with greater depth in a certain area. But I wouldn't worry just yet. He'll get his turn this year.
  4. This is a good point. Better to keep him pushing hard at VFL level and getting games into the legs, than bring him in at AFL level and play him out of position. Happy to wait to see ANB.
  5. Wow. So because the question was asked I therefore hold that opinion? A narrow mind you have there. For the record, as I've mentioned a couple of times on this thread, when I started this thread my view wasn't one way or the other.
  6. Very good post and similar to PD's. I think the idea that we back ourselves in to iron out his flaws (despite the 88 games it's taken, with seeming little result), is the best way forward. I was on the fence with this discussion, I've jumped down onto Tom's side now. And no. It's not my logic. I'm posing questions. This is a discussion forum. If we're not free to question and examine our own opinions and thoughts, why the hell would we bother?
  7. Don't bother reading it then. It's a simple question for discussion. If you actually read the thread carefully, you'd also note that I say I haven't made my mind up yet. I like your posts, but please don't use DE to mount any argument. For starters, Viney and Vince are in the heat, the contested ball arena. The defenders mark or gather the ball and have time to upload in a much more a efficient, less pressured manner, hence the top 3. For example, Garland plays it so safe these days that I'm surprised he's not going at a higher DE. Doesn't make him good at what he does. It means he takes the safe option. Yeah, exactly like Jack Watts. What? Did deeluded get ahold of your password again, Bubs? :D
  8. Are you serious? Wow. The name of this thread is "Areas of weakness". As rjay says, the cupboard is bare.
  9. He has, but I still reckon that's what he's doing this year.
  10. But this is exactly what he's here for in his third season. To take the flack for Goodwin as we put in place and test Goodwin's attacking philosophy. Wouldn't be surprised if they've decided to back the system in every time (making minimal moves - note), they'll see which players work their way through things in this system and which players drown.
  11. Love that they've got past MFC indigenous players inscribed down the side too.
  12. Wow, I didn't realise Armitage was 27 and Steven 26. They really are in for some pain. They'd want to be coming into their window when Steven was 26-27. I'm not sure they've got much midfield depth once Montagna, Armitage and Steven exit. Certainly not A graders anyway.
  13. I reckon we run a bit of a risk trading someone just to get back into the first round of the draft.
  14. I was at all three games and have been thinking it for a couple of weeks. He directly handed Richmond the momentum three times from mindbogglingly stupid decisions or poor skills. Fortunately, we were able to hit back at them eventually, each time. I'll concede hearing (admittedly hearsay) information that he directly went against instruction and has developed an ego, further inspired this line of thinking though. We need role players. No player is bigger than a well run club and that includes Jesse.
  15. Completely agree. Good post, mate. Let's hope the younger guys avoid any poor habits from older players. It sounds like Viney is someone a lot of them look up to, so that can only be good for us in the long run.
  16. I'm really excited for our future, mate. Our midfield alone does that, even before we start talking about Hogan. I just hope we leave no stone unturned to ensure our defence is as good as it can be.
  17. I wouldn't call it negative. I'd go the old 'realist' route. Only trying to inspire debate.
  18. Is it really a kicking burden though? He always seems to just do what he likes. Surely they've told him to play to his strengths and not try for a low percentage option, yet that's what he consistently does. We have Salem and Vince taking the pressure off him, but everyone needs to be able to kick. If you can't, you can be a liability. He showed against GWS this year though, that it might be a confidence thing. He was very sure that day. For the record, I haven't made up my mind one way or the other on Tom, but I had hoped by now he would learn to play to his limitations.
  19. Agree with all of that. I'd say you can often find those skillful running players when your window opens too.
  20. Interesting responses. So let's say his decision making doesn't improve throughout the course of the season and we're at Round 23, and he's still making the same sorts of errors: does anyone reconsider? I totally get the argument that we've got one KPD with elite attributes and it's easier to stick with him given these, but at what point do these elite traits get overshadowed by turn overs?
  21. There are players like Dunn, Garland, Grimes, Terlich etc that are either simply not good enough or far too inconsistent for players that have been around as long as they have. I worry that continued exposure to these players will taint our younger players. Tom McDonald is a worry because he's either learned bad traits or cannot eradicate bad traits he always had. So the backline is a big problem. As for the forward half, we need more depth there. We need another Jeff Garlett. A speedy player with x-factor, who regularly puts on forward pressure. Then there's the lack of reinforcements for Gawn and Spencer. I suspect that this is because we've simply focused on getting as much talent as we can into the midfield first. We'll then turn to strengthening these areas in the coming two to three years.
  22. So his perpetually bad decision making doesn't worry you then?
