  1. I mentioned this in the game day thread yesterday. Jetta is an A grade defender now. He's been beating his opponent every week since the start of 2015. He holds our backline together and wins contests in the same way that Rance does. Given Rance is lauded as one of, if not, the best defender in the league, I'd say Jetta is not far behind. He is criminally underrated, at least in the media. This news appears to suggest internally opposition clubs rate him very highly. Well done, Nev. You're a star and I loved your high five down at Geelong last year. Oh and no fears Jets will leave. None whatsoever.
  2. I just don't see why any player would consider going to Richmond come the end of this year or even now. Players would seriously re-consider Collingwood as an option too. I reckon the league is starting to pick up on our young midfield and opposition players will be far more amenable to coming over from now on. Hurley would be good. I wonder what cap space we'd allot for him if we re-sign Hogan (which I think we will) as well. We've got to be very careful who we choose to pay and how much.
  3. I know he's only a young kid, but if he kicks those goals early yesterday, who knows. I feel he would have last year. Given the limited opportunities we had, we simply needed to dob the easy ones and he had a couple of them yesterday and missed. It's such a psychological blow. You feel like you're working so hard to create scoring chances and when you finally do, your gun CHF misses very gettable shots multiple times. Scoreboard pressure is a wonderful thing. It's also a big momentum driver. This is where I see the improvement coming in the next few years. In 12-18 months, Hogan would be grabbing that game by the scruff of the neck (ala Stringer) and influencing the game in a big, big way. That's what stars do. I'd hope your Oliver's, Viney's and Petracca's are also capable. Not sure a Nathan Jones is. At least, against really top opposition. You could tell pretty early on yesterday that we weren't on and so often when this is the case, we'll fall over, fumble, run into each other, take the wrong option and generally the luck doesn't go our way. It was just one of those days, but it clearly defined for me where we're at. There's simply too much inexperience and as Roos said, we need about 15 or 16 players playing well for us to win. We're not there yet and we won't be this year. But that's not to say we won't win 10-12 games though and finish on the cusp of the 8.
  4. For me, his attack at the contest or ball hasn't been as good the last month. He's still a very smart footballer. He knows where to lead, he knows how to clear space for his team mates and he's a beautiful kick, but he needs to go back to the Watts we saw against GWS. He was a lot tougher that day than he has been for most of the year. That's want I want to see from Jack for four quarters. He's played enough games now. No excuses.
  5. He just doesn't read the ball quick enough. The last or second last shot at goal Redpath had, you could see it coming a mile away and yet Garland was just totally caught out. Still as meek as anything in the contest too.
  6. Let's start with the positives. Positives: - comprehensively beaten to the ball all day, couldn't have played any worse and yet we only lost by 5 goals. - Dom Tyson's form is very good. - Viney continues to the very end. - Jetta is a star and wins his contest and wins others consistently. He's the small defender's equivalent of Rance. He's A grade now. Negatives: - poor ball use, fumbling, falling over, general in eptness. - a horrid lack of work rate from our midfielders. Very little two way running. I suspect the contest in close took it out of them, but that's no excuse for experienced bodies and leaders like Jonesy. - I'm at humble pie eating stage with Kent. We really missed him today. Kennedy gave up three goals at half forward by turning the ball over. He brought a little bit of pressure, but outside of his two goals didn't impact enough. - Gawn's game. To three quarter time he had 4 touches and 0 tackles. He finished with 6 touches and 1 tackle. Urgh. Horrible, horrible game. - our stoppage set ups today. It was so predictable how they'd neutralise Gawn. One ruckman jostles and blocks, while one of the midfielders would go third man up. Was it Akum that said this is exactly what would happen? Spot on. - I'd be dropping Garland for OMac too. Michie didn't do enough for mine either.
  7. Vince needs to hard tag Bont too. Heading for a big PB.
  8. Clarry hasn't been on very long, so not sure it's his fault. I'd have him in the middle more, but a couple of times he's got it and they've pounced on him.
  9. Oh and Gawn couldn't mark a beach ball today. There's still too much between his best and worst. He lifts and we're a chance.
  10. They've been so much cleaner in the midfield than us. We've been slipping over, fumbling, making poor decisions and generally have not worked hard enough. Do not look like it today. Cannot believe we're only four goals down. They've been deadly off half back, but a pattern has formed. They've let us get the easy kick out and then run off half back, and waited for us to turned it over around the wing and then they pounce on transition. Could get really ugly. The Dogs look like they're in 3rd or 4th gear. If they find second or first we're staring down the barrel of a 10-12 goal loss.
  11. Kennedy coughed up three goals from half forward now.
  12. We haven't come to play so far. Poor work rate from the mids. They're well and truly out working us. The ball use going forward has been poor and Gawn is being nullified around the ground. This is the test. Bulldogs are on, it's up to you Melbourne. Bring the work rate and we can win this. Keep playing the way we are and it's game over and a thumping is on the cards.
  13. Gee, Luke Darcy is an horrific commentator. Absolutely no idea.
  14. The difference between Neeld and Eade is the experience of the latter coach. But, the big problem for mine with Eade is, ultimately, he's never won the big prize. I think what he's done is probably the right move, but their injury list has killed them. It seems like the outer FD is the problem though.
  15. Yep, they're very likely to lose all three blokes. Their midfield will be absolutely decimated. Lynch up one end is a star, but they'll be years off unless they turn it around quick smart. It's not going to happen though. And now Ablett's gone down with injury too. Looks like an ankle.
  16. Oh, it'll be worse, I reckon. The AFL would be [censored] themselves.
  17. Provided we keep winning and go close to finals this year, we'd have to be a big chance of luring a couple of these Suns. A bloke like Sam Day we might even be able to get a bit cheaper, just because he might want to get out of there. Gold Coast's season is getting ugly. Almost Melbourne-like depths of despair from a couple of years ago.
  18. So why was Wayne Swan awarded the World's Best Treasurer by Euromoney then? http://www.theaustralian.com.au/national-affairs/wayne-swan-named-worlds-best-treasurer-by-euromoney-magazine/story-fn59niix-1226142190437 Well done. The fallacy that Labor can't manage money continues. Those calling themselves fiscally responsible adults have put us into even more debt. The inferior copper NBN lite is a perfect example and will cost the tax payer billions and billions of dollars. Love that ANB is smashing it. And it's fantastic that Trenners can get through a solid block of dominating at VFL level and gain confidence in his body at the lower level. Looking forward to his eventual return. And I note a goal from big Jake Spencer. Excellent.
  19. It'd be nice to get rid of the Gold Coast, but I think I'd prefer that they relocate North to Tassie and during Scott's tenure as coach.
  20. North have 42,000 members? Wow. I wouldn't have thought there'd be more than 35,000 North, even in years that they've been playing finals.
  21. Gee, Neale is impressive. Reminds me of Oliver's hands.
  22. Come on Freo, ya flogs. Keep eating into that Hawthorn percentage.
  23. I can certainly see that, but I reckon we'll be on tomorrow. Whether we can beat them is another matter. I've been telling my mates we'll beat them, so I hope so.
  24. Essendon haven't been down long enough. Their fans cheering a 14 point defeat, where their team didn't turn up for a half.
