  1. Agreed, it would have been harder, but those other backs you previously mentioned didn't seem to crumble like he did, under the same strain.
  2. I reckon Tom took more risks this year and as his team mates ran to support more, and provide harder running options, a lot of his kicking paid off. My problem with Tom is he doesn't always know when to go. ie. His game sense isn't great IMO. He'll often make a game changing error or take a risk when it's just not appropriate and the self belief will drain from our youngsters as a result. I think in time he'll learn to actually take more risks and even if they don't pay off, our guys and Tom will keep running hard, even if a few kicks cost us a goal or two. I guess it's the same philosophy Geelong used under Thompson. Just keep attacking and attacking. Self belief will grow with that and this is where the leadership and experience of someone like Lewis will be so pivotal for our guys. Ensuring they continue to attack at all costs. Go hard or go home.
  3. I love most of his films prior to the mid 90s and since, he's been very hit and miss. But then he is making a film every year. He also had his tv series this year too, which probably didn't help Cafe Society. The series has been panned unfortunately, but I'll still watch it at some point. Miley Cyrus is a very intriguing muse. I probably prefer his multi-relationship films ultimately though (Husbands and Wives, Hannah and her Sisters), but that's a style of filmmaking I really gel with, ala the sprawling ensembles of Altman and his protégé PT Anderson.
  4. Watched him make a lot of errors this season and panic under pressure a bit. I just don't rate him. No comment on his smarts or setup. Each to their own though.
  5. Saw Cafe Society and it's okay. Kristen Stewart is amazing. She really is one of the best actresses of her generation, but the rest is pretty cliche Woody without the moments of inspiration.
  6. Oh and another one for the list I had forgotten about: 'Man Bites Dog'. Horrible. Just horrible and redundant.
  7. I really enjoyed it. The first half was a bit slow, but after the interval it was awesome.
  8. Jetta is better than Duryea IMO, but I agree with the rest. Duryea is a good kick, but not great and is nowhere near the defender Jetta is. Jetta could well improve his kicking and his attacking off half back, and he'll have to if we want to challenge for the top 4.
  9. I suspect PD's reasoning is the same as mine. He doesn't currently provide enough drive off half back and his kicking isn't attacking enough. He plays within his limitations a bit and is a gun IMO for it, but the way we're approaching our defensive set up, he may well be passed soon.
  10. Yep, I reckon you might be right, as much as I love Jets. I still reckon we're missing that small forward that'll get the job done in a finals campaign. Not sure that Garlett is the man.
  11. I don't have him in my best 22 either, but I reckon he showed real poise and most of the time hit targets nicely. It's that sort of cool head we need off half back. I'd say they see him as a long term replacement for Jetta.
  12. I think some would argue that they deliberately leave grey errors in some of the rules to cover themselves in case a narrative goes the wrong way. But I would also agree, mate, that often they're just flat out incompetent, such as in this instance.
  13. Because you don't get decent compensation (Brayshaw) for losing a player if he's played in the reserves all year. La-la-land again, Saty.
  14. HH/PA reminds me of one of my best mates. He's a floggy Carlton supporter, but he too spends his life back-pedalling on every opinion he ever has. It's hard to take him seriously a lot of the time.
  15. Let's hope AHG becomes synonymous with Melbourne over a long period of time and therefore synonymous with success.
  16. Yes. We make $500k playing in the top end per game, whereas if we were to play a game at the 'G against interstate teams such as Gold Coast and Adelaide, we'd make nothing near that. If it was a bad slot or weather tarnished the day, we'd be closer to losing money, let alone making $500k. It's a good move and if clubs like Hawthorn can still do it, we can too.
  17. I probably posted on it. All these threads run into one eventually in my mind. I take it a bunch of us were saying St Kilda were going to trouble some teams? Well, they're wrong. :D
  18. I'd prefer St Kilda getting airtime. They won't have anywhere to hide when they get exposed by decent sides. I'm glad they're not being overrated by anyone other than their own supporters.
  19. Round 15, Carlton v Adelaide, MCG, Saturday afternoon This contest would have had some extra spice had last week's trade gone through that saw Bryce Gibbs become a Crow. But as we know, the proposed deal hit a snag when Carlton refused to lower its price for the best and fairest winner and Adelaide believed the Blues would blink and let him return to South Australia. How the feck is this a game to watch? Urgh.
  20. True. If Goodwin is anything like Luke, I'll be very happy. He made tough calls with a host of Bulldogs, but the players still love him, because he's about relationships.
  21. Wasn't my choice, MD. Already made her wait ten years. Thought it was the right thing to do this time. We booked it for a Saturday night, so I thought I was pretty safe. She also said she didn't mind if I came straight from the game if it fell on a Saturday. She's a keeper.
  22. I know, I know. The ladyfriend wouldn't let me wait until October.
  23. When I saw that I thought of Nash. Didn't know you were based there too, Clint.
  24. I think the most important thing is that I'll be able to attend my wedding as our fixture doesn't clash with it.
