  1. Much, much, much better player than Trengove, but there is certainly a downward trajectory based off a terrible year, but you could say that about most of the list and that would be foolish.
  2. I like this idea. Would give us a bit of run off half back. Depends on the price though.
  3. My point was our strategy probably should have been to say he's not coming if that's the case. Even do a Hawthorn and say we never offered anything. But, I've gone back on knocking Mahoney here. It's all good. It's really small in the scheme of things and not worth even pointing out.
  4. Football is politics these days. Especially at this time of year, but you're probably right.
  5. Haha, I don't have the dreaded MFCSS. Mahoney has never laid his cards out before without knowing the answer to the question being asked. I did say in this thread over the weekend that there may be an ulterior motive for mentioning contract length. Look, it probably doesn't matter to be honest...
  6. Thanks for listening mate. I appreciate not having to listen to that tripe myself.
  7. Righto. Explain to me how we caved in getting Lever and May across the line. The two biggest traded names in the last two seasons. Remembering that Treloar was worth two first rounders for Collingwood. Shiel worth two first rounders for Essendon. Prestia worth one first rounder for RIchmond and so on.
  8. He clarified the contract length. No need to say anything.
  9. It could be Bell playing funny buggers again, but you're probably right, implying that it's unlikely.
  10. Cerra and Freo's future first rounder for Gus? Too high? Unreasonable? Gus has certainly shown a lot more than Cerra. This seems like a media beat up, but we need better ball users in our midfield mix. If we're not trading Viney, I'd look at Gus.
  11. Given Elliott is now looking elsehwere, I reckon this is the move we should make. Front-end the bejesus out of his contract and get a 10-12 year forward. You have my vote, mate. It then gives Weideman a time clock. He could simply take over from McDonald in 2-3 years as the other twin tower or we look for a trade if King bosses it for us in 2020.
  12. Interesting. Mahoney should have kept his mouth shut. We look a bit foolish now. I wonder if there's anything else brewing.
  13. Not sure if I'd want Faulty doing our business for us. "Melbourne is a really [censored] club, so don't bother." A bit like SWYL but without the history lesson.
  14. I'll reserve judgement on both Langdon and Tomlinson and I'll call it 'the Melksham rule'. It has a two year age limit. Let's see how they both go. Agreed.
  15. Having Langdon and Jones on both wings wouldn't have exactly improved our DE inside forward 50. Both butchers. Targeting Tomlinson, who is more versatile, to bring in alongside Langdon is a smarter strategy.
  16. Mahoney also said we weren't going to add any more assistants too, didn't he? I wouldn't believe everything I hear from Mahoney. He's playing a game. That's his job.
  17. I don't think our current recruiting team will draft a player simply due to their speed. BP clearly would have though.
  18. Can those better in the know than me, say whether it's likely Kemp could even slip out of the top 10?
  19. I think we'd only split it if we thought the pool was pretty even and that we'd be able to get at least one good player with one of the picks. The sense I get from our list strategy team is that we're realistic and logical. If we think the field is pretty even, may as well get two bites of the cherry in the draft lottery, as opposed to narrowing our options with one pick.
  20. I agree. This is how it all works now. Frosty might be miffed we don't rate him higher after his season, but we've still paid him for a couple of contracts now and he's really been a fringe player throughout all that time. In time, if he's a realistic man, he'll see that we developed him and simply cashed in when his value was its highest, because we wanted to play a different defensive system to the one he would best fit.
  21. I still believe we told him to explore his options and didn't offer him a contract. We probably told him he'd be on the fringe and be on minimum dollars, playing some time at Casey and despite not wanting to leave, Frosty had no alternative but to explore his options. Hawthorn have probably said, yep, we'll take you on. We like your dash and we need some defensive reinforcement, and we'll back ourselves in to use your attributes for good.
  22. Yep, you could well be right, mate, but he must have known he'd be asked about Langdon, Tomlinson and Elliott. The three guys we've clearly been linked to throughout this period. He'd have had mapped out responses to these questions and there's no reason for him to provide any information that we don't want out there. Say what you like about Mahoney (most of it completely uninformed), but he's a very well regarded figure in the industry. We had an unacceptable 2019, but he's earned my trust as a supporter by landing the two biggest traded recruits on the market, two years running. What's also notable is that in that time, the club hasn't leaked and has only come clean once Lever and May were clearly committed to us. Now perhaps there's further politicking at play in this situation (ie. an ulterior strategy for coming out and discussing the Elliott trade in any detail at all), but if not, I think there's a reason to be still optimistic about us landing Elliott.
