Farewell Brodie Grundy
Honestly is he were smart he'd take his paycheck and stick around. He's a walk-up Reserve, no questions asked. Gawn ain't playing 22-26 games a year anymore. Doubt he'll accept that thoughh.

NON-MFC: Rd 23 2023
Weird flex by Collingwood to be throwing the game against Brisbane given we're they're biggest threat (provided we lock away 4th).

Max Gawn's 200th
He barely played in his first 6 seasons so the stat isn't surprising when you think about it.

POSTGAME: Rd 22 vs Carlton
Goodwin summed it up... games like that are decided by moments. The moment... Salem kicked a goal. or. The moment... Salem sprayed it and didn't even make the distance. The moment... JVR is awarded a free kick on the boundary. or. The moment the umpire conteoversually sees but doesn't call a blatant free kick in a high pressure game. The "moments" fell Carlton's way. Barely anyone is talking about Carlton three goals to start the quarter. All of the "moments" were Melbourne non-moments: Melbourne had control of the moment but it didn't work out. Literally a finger tip away from 2nd and likely a home QF. Salem makes the most of that "moment" in the 2021 Grand Final. Ditto, Petracca: his shot on goal was almost a mirror for the first goal in 2021 GF. Moments make a difference. They didn't go our way. Three weeks ago the "moment" was Melksham's. The moment on Saturday night was that it wasn't Melbourne's moment.

Has our form been overstated?
Reality we face is that the weekend is a must win to cement top 4. If we lose and Carlton win, then odds suddenly shift in Carlton's favour with them facing GWS at Marvel. Bet your house that Mitchell will get the Hawks up for this to severely dent our season. They will throw everything at us. They are primed to end the season well. An absolute must win against Hawthorn. We have to close it out.

The Run Home
Carlton has the best forward in the league and looked far more inept.

POSTGAME: Rd 22 vs Carlton
Carlton never looked like scoring in the 1st. They kicked it to contest after contest hoping Curnow would clunk one. We absorbed it brilliantly but couldn't get it out. We defended better than they did imo across the entire game. We gave them easy access and possession and entries but we set up behind the ball very well. That was finals calibre defense. They had 26% F50 efficiency. You just don't win finals with that.

POSTGAME: Rd 22 vs Carlton
Carlton maybe deserved to win that but we were undoubtedly robbed. Confident we beat them in finals. They would be filthy with that loss. Hopefully it motivates them. Brown is done but he's a better inclusion than Grundy because he doesn't infringe on Gawn. We'd have been better without Grundy tonight. Carlton were desperate to play finals. That was always a loss in the books. They needed to tick that box. Felt like tonight was similar to Melb v West Coast circa round 22 in 2018. If we meet them in finals we'll bury them. They won a 50/50 H&A game tonight. Not threatened by a team that loses 6 in a row during the year.
