  1. Why would you want opposition forwards to kick *more* goals on us? Shanners was consistently beaten against big forwards.
  2. Time for Jones and Lewis to rise up a notch and take leadership back. Oliver has been carrying this team, and should he not play, those two have to step up.
  3. The trick is to not factor in long periods because they are irrelevant to the current *team's* success. From that perspective, finals time is now because we have the talent and opportunity, and we are in year 5 of the Roos rebuild. For the club more broadly yes success needs to come soon but we can't burden the current crop with the ineptness of 50 years.
  4. The only lesson left to have now is finals pressure.
  5. comparing the experience of those players is pointless. Yes as it stands NOW we are less experienced, but Geelong won a flag 11 years ago. Their core atm including Ablett and Selwood didn't have 200+ games. Same goes for Collingwood, who were actually quite young when they won the flag. Right now we are actually firmly in the premiership window, and should be overrunning teams like Geelong. Instead we allowed the likes of Ablett, who couldn't outrun my grandma all night, to grab control of the match. It was embarrassing. We took the foot off the pedal and started playing like millionares. We lost that. It had nothing to do with Geelong's experience. Yes, with experience comes a steady hand and lessons. But how many do they need? Last year was our 2006. Missing finals would be a huge failure and a major indictment on the club's development intentions. Part of the development involves playing finals. Really getting sick of people making excuses for these blokes. They've been in a prime position for 3 straight years now. If they'd gotten the job done the first time maybe they'd know how to hold a lead against a bunch of old men.
  6. I am the same. Been thinking about it for 3 days now.
  7. 2017 was meant to be our 2006. We're well above where Geelong was at any point in 2006. They could barely crack the 8. If we miss finals it would be a massive choke and would prove not much has changed on last year. How much longer are we going to be "waiting on next year"?

    Cooked. Both of them.
  9. How long have you been a Melbourne supporter for? Spuds tearing us up when we least expect it is the Melbourne way!

    Mr Jones

Let's be honest. No team was demanding his services as teams were Frawley as a KPD. Jones would barely crack the top 22 of another top 8 side now, let alone one in 2012-2014. Jones is a clubman and lifetime Demon. We love him for that, but is there a spot for him should be land, say, a Gaff, and are at full strength?
  11. I imagine the match will be similar, I think we match up well with Geelong and Adelaide, the problem with both is their key forwards. If we don't capitalise we will again find ourselves in a tough situation in a hostile environment. Lose next week and the season is done.
  12. http://www.afl.com.au/video/2018-07-21/why-simon-goodwin-is-soft Watch the performance of the last minute. Garlett's shot on goal was the making of a loser with absolutely no sense of victory, or what it takes to actually protect the lead. It was lazy, selfish, and the complete opposite of "big game". A pointless shot on goal. Hogan and Mcdonald appear out of sync. McDonald goes up against two defenders, Hogan hangs back, completely oblivious to the inevitable rushed behind. Little if any attempt to keep the ball in play. In that instance there -- a high, deep ball -- you go up and contest to keep the ball in. Yet on direct and clear leads up down the guts throughout the game, he contests and clashes with Mcdonald? The very definition of dumb football. Watch Garlett's and Melksham's pressure and chase at 0:34-0:38. I know they were out of the contest, but the lack of urgency and desire to create the *perception* of pressure is extremely disheartening. Garlett is absolutely cooked. Imagine this guy in a final at the MCG in front of 90k? Peaheart flash-in-the-pan player. Leon Davis 2.0. Delist. Duncan manages to jog out of our forward line, receive the handball from Hawkins, who kicks it forward. DEFENSIVE ACCOUNTABILITY!? Let down by both forwards and midfielders. Hogan or Mcdonald should have followed him through. LAZY. Jones and Lewis at 0:45 look completely and utterly lost. These are two players leading our team towards a finals spot. FMD. I feel there is a huge disconnect between club and fan atm. We appear destined to be eternal run-withs, making up the numbers. That last minute imo epitomises Goodwin's coaching career thus far. Truly inept, and not at all indicative of a team looking to break an 11-year (!!!!!!!) finals drought. 5 years into the Roos rebuild and we are STILL looking for someone to stand up at key moments in games and the season.
  13. I'm angry but this is insane lol Our 2018 would beat the 2011 team by 200 points.
  14. JKH at least applies pressure!
  15. We need to beat 4 of Adelaide, Sydney, West Coast, GC and GWS to be a sure thing. We're just making up the numbers at this point anyway.
  16. 100%. On our forwards and mids. Lazy last quarter.
  17. This is a loser's mentality, based on the assumption that we are incapable of maintaining and extending a lead (which is not the case). Good teams put the foot to the throat, and/or hold on when challenged. I am no fan of Goodwin, but McDonald was our only effective 4-quarter forward last night. We lost it last night when our forwards and mids collectively stopped running both ways. We were found out in transition, and choked. Hard. As much on Goodwin as it is on Jones, Lewis, Vince, and other on field leaders.
  18. Tragedy ain't a competition. We can only go on our own experiences. We pay could money and watch footy as an escape. To be part of something bigger. It is exhausting and not easy to just dismiss when it has been part of your whole life. Nothing pains me more than having to switch off just to ensure I don't ruin my weekend. A bad meal can be made up with a nice drink and cigar, or a dessert. But Melbourne losing makes it a write off when you actually commit 3 hours of your time off to support them.
  19. Switching off for the rest of the year. After the Hawthorn loss said I wouldn't switch on until we've won 4 in a row. I came back and it has been a rollercoaster. Rushed home after a nice dinner out with the wife to watch that rubbish. Making an effort to do dinner and drinks, or see a movie or something for the remainder of the season. Working during out later afternoon games in Melbourne, which makes it easy. Normally I would rush there and arrive just before quarter time, but [censored] that.

As I have mentioned many times before: so long as he is in the team, we will be a nothing side. He is NOT the problem, rather a symptom of it. He is a perennial loser, and that stink stretches for miles. So long as he has a place in the top 22 and starting midfield, we will be making up the numbers. I am sorry to say to those that can't see it. But it is a harsh reality.
  21. It's same old. When we are on we score heavily and the opposition tends to have a high and accurate efficiency rate. When we are off we seem erratic and "hope for the best". Much like Bailey, Goodwin has the makings of a great attacking coach, but he lacks the ability to impose structural and defensive accountability. He is being made to look decent by a talented list. Reminds me of Mike D'Antoni in the NBA. Only ever coaches the teams stacked with talent, knows how to run a sound offense but his teams never go the distance. Everything Roos tries to instill is out the window.
  22. He is Bailey 2.0, but with a better overall list. Can you imagine if Roos was still coaching this group?
  23. Well yeah of course they are but appear unlikely at this point. We buckled tonight and lost to a mid-table Geelong after leading by 5 goals in the last quarter. We have kicked ourselves out of finals this year. They have learnt [censored] all and we stand to once again miss finals on the back of out last quarter of the season. Fancy this team with this squad missing finals. It's a god damn travesty.
