  1. Did they stifle his equilibrium, Dame ?
  2. Nah, Petracca was in DeeGoey's draft. https://www.footywire.com/afl/footy/ft_drafts?year=2014&t=N&s=P
  3. They should be the basis of building every club. But they are not always. and there is different levels of hardness... i would say Harmes should be seen as the average. Varying from TMc thru to Vandenberg. We've made some mistakes like... morton, bennell gysberts, watts, blease, cook, and many others I fdon't care to remember at this stage. I think its a great idea to Not recruit, any who do not have the courage to stand under a high ball. As a basis. Do not recruit NoN hard workers. And do not recruit those who are too selfish to share with their teammates. I would Not put a line thru kids, with some troubles. Who posses other attributes like team orientation, and selflessness. I would recruit Dustin Martin in a heartbeat. .
  4. If we beat Richmond I will ? ... answer this question.
  5. Lucifer. Build in layers, like a bricklayer. Start with solid foundations, hard reinforced concrete. ... start adding numerous blocks (skills), layer upon layer. running, vision, footy IQ, Courage, discipline, foot-skills, hand-skills, overhead skills, ground-ball skills, foot-speed, side-step, physical body on body skills, marking, tackling, flair, dour, I would think the hard foundations are.... courage, hardness, dour attitude, discipline, physical body on body skills, tackling, Add as many as you can get, with decent combo's of these skills... not shirking on the FF Foundations First. . We are not grand finalists to be, Yet. .
  6. ah, yeah... I'd forgotten that. a vague memory of it. Just following the 'Kennedy's commando's', of the early 60's. " Tactically, he was considered by some - most notably, Geelong coach Bob Davis - as crude. When he took over as coach of Hawthorn in 1960, his strategy was to radically increase the physical fitness of his players and then up the tempo of the game so that opposition teams were worn out. 7. Yep, I guess early sixties to late sixties things were starting to change, regarding skills. Including seeing that best-kick show, on WOSport. Barassi and other coaches demanded excellence... more and more, I guess money was starting to whisper into players ears. And with more money, footy started to rise as a payed occupation. In that WOS footy show, they highlighted Both sides of the body, Re skills. Supreme fitness and dual sided skills were becoming the weapons of choice.
  8. I reckon we were D3... Gaff. But IMO during the 2nd Half of the season changed our views on the priority of Gaff, and at the End, showed we needed much more than foot speed/running power ... Maybe our tall defenders hadn't come on as wanted or expected during 2019, and with Levers 2nd knee injury... the footy dept May have decided to get the best Tall back we could find. .... And then we went to the draft, selecting quick running players. But they are still 1st Yr players. ................................................................... I reckon Our 2019 gloss made us look far more 'complete', than we really were/are. We Are still building, still developing... maybe more like 75% finished ??? .
  9. totally Dr.
  10. I think your right 'hw', Re the 70's and 80's... possibly not much before that... and maybe not so since the mid noughties. Skilled on both sides seemed to take a backward step, maybe around the advent of the flood...? And also, going full time Pro, they are inside the club/gym for so much time, do they have less free time.?
  11. Whilst his partner is off powdering their nose.
  12. And so will Aristotle. Maybe Harold Holt will make a comeback in time to retake the Libs leadership from Scmo
  13. I'm not sure, 'DF'... https://www.footywire.com/afl/footy/ft_drafts?year=2000&t=N&s=P But 2000 was. https://www.footywire.com/afl/footy/ft_ladder?year=1997&pt=SE&st=SE&sb=p
  14. So you don't believe its necessary to eject some senior players, in order to crack and then change an non-winning culture. You must believe they can all be turned around... and follow the messiah.
  15. I believe you would find that IT, has been. Maybe, not by the players, so much... but the Whole footy-dept would have, all last Summer. Looks like, unfortunately too injuries, we may get an early pick this Mid-Sason.
  16. Here is an AFL Midseason-draft article. https://www.afl.com.au/news/2019-02-07/midseason-draft-when-is-it-and-how-will-it-work And here is the current AFL Injury List. https://www.afl.com.au/news/injury-list
  17. Clarko... is that you ? Welcome back over to Red'n'Blue, Ol' matey. .
  18. Well, lets see, we talking about McCartney and defence are we? Didn't Rawlings go to Casey Demons to coach them, from the 2018 season onward.? That was last year, I think. https://www.melbournefc.com.au/news/2017-09-28/rawlings-appointed-casey-demons-coach So, when did Chaplin take over our Defence ? And, when did McCartney go down to work from the Bench ? I think that was last year. ? McCartney went down to the bench to operate, sometime mid season, last year. And we seemed to go fairly well, in the 2nd half of last season. I noticed that McCartney is listed as Defensive coach ( team defence? )... rather the Defence Coach which is Troy Chaplin. .................................................................. From the website > https://www.melbournefc.com.au/Team/players/coaches Chaplin has been a part of the Melbourne coaching setup since September 2016, originally serving as the club’s offensive coordinator. The former key defender, who retired at the end of the 2016 season, played 215 AFL matches from 2004-16. Chaplin represented Port Adelaide in 140 games from 2004-12 and made 75 appearances for Richmond from 2013-16. During his playing days, he kept an eye towards a coaching career, honing his craft at Sturt, Oakleigh Chargers in the TAC Cup and assisting with Richmond in his last few months at Punt Rd. He made his AFL debut in round four, 2004 against the red and blue at the Mcg – the same day Melbourne general manager of football operations Josh Mahoney played his first game for the Power............ . I don't think McCartney is a problem for us Demons. .
  19. Ray (slug) Jordan wouldn't last a week, in today's 'namby-pamby' styles. But he trained Winners. He sorted the chaff out of the wheat. And players grew or they failed. No If's but's maybe's. This is Elite sport happening here.... its not 'Berry Street'. We are the Demons. Not, the Fuscia's. .
  20. If you look at post #125 by AtboG Macca is listed as Defensive. ??‍♂️ I don't know about the other posts. 'DZ'. I took this current information direct from the Melbournefc website.
  21. I imagine Maca doesn't mince his words. with other coaches or with players. I sense, a real strait shooter is Maca. Some people do not like hearing the truth, of what others think of them, and about how they go about things.
  22. https://www.melbournefc.com.au/club/people/staff-members Coaching Simon Goodwin Senior Coach Brendan McCartney Player/Coach Performance Manager Matthew Egan Head of Player Development Ben Mathews Stoppage and Contest Coach Troy Chaplin Backline Coach Max Rooke Forward Line Coach Craig Jennings Game Analyst and Education Coordinator Justin Plapp Midfield Coach Greg Stafford Ruck Coach
  23. Maca is still on the bench, this year. IF there were serious issues between Maca and Goody, or with players last year, why was it we went so well in the 2nd half of 2018 ? Maca went well as a developing coach with the Dogs... prior to being head coach there... and they won a flag with Beveridge... Meaning Maca developed those kids fairly well, me thinks. Maca was also the development coach at the Catters for years, and they certainly did very well around, and after his tenure, at the Cats. Nutshell, I don't think Maca is a bad issue. Possibly he (maca) is putting the blame at the feet of the Players. Is how I might speculate it.?
  24. Its still early days D11. The point isn't whether it was Higgins, the point is I thought we should be taking a couple of small forward/rovers with some foot speed and skills. Over the course of a couple of seasons. And at the same time, look for the same attributes of run, speed + skill in the midfielder type/size... to add to our centreline player stocks. Over the past 4 seasons or so, was IMO the time to go this way . This is why I am so up in arms with paying 2 First Rnd picks for Lever. We should have stayed with an offer for Lever, of a future 1st Rnd pick + our 2nd Rnd pick from that draft year.
