Opening quarters from round 15 when we were likely headed for finals.. Swans 9 shots to our 4 Carlton 7 shots to our 3 Adelaide 9 to our 4 Port 3 to our 8 North 8 to 2 (windy) GWS 14 to 3 (windy) St Kilda 2 to our 9 Brisbane 5 to our 6 Coll 11 to our 4 Garbage I would call it. Major flaw in our ability to turn up.

I call BS on this spurious assumption.

Lachie Whitfield, Jake Lever, and other trade rumours

Hah ha comedy gold. You're dreaming. Hibberd AA in his first year. Pick 29. Break even? Melksham our best fwd in the second half of the year by some margin. 2nd round pick? I'd like four more disasters like that this trade period.- 134 replies

Lachie Whitfield, Jake Lever, and other trade rumours
jnrmac replied to Xavierrodway's topic in Melbourne Demons
Don't be seduced by talent. Sylvia had talent. Players like Motlop are a cancer in a club. They will let you down when it matters because they don't put in 100% of the time. We have enough problems with players opting when to put effort in. Effort is 100% not negotiable. That's why players like Kent are doomed. Motlop is the last thing we need. -
Not me. I am livid and likely to remain so. Garry Lyon in his book says that 1990 season was the one they really rued. Even comp, no standout as evidenced by the fact a fairly ordinary Collingwood side won the flag. Grand Finals are hard to get to and there is no saying we would have made it but 2017 looks like a similar even year and will go down as a massive missed opportunity - and the players and coaching staff have no [censored] idea what level of pressure they needed to bring to games in the second half of the season. Like last years capitulation against Carlton and Geelong, the coaches and on field leaders have failed yet seem powerless to do anything about it. Until it is recgnised and acknowledged the same crap performances will repeat themselves. No way Clarkson or Sheedy would allow such garbage to happen.
-
Contradicted yourself. They had space because we didn't tackle or pressure them.
-
This is the real problem. Total cap mngmnt looks out of whack. Prestia is the one that really hurts them.
-
Surely it means number of possessions for an i50?
-
are you saying we're turning into Richmond???? Yikes !!!!

Ball movement is not about the speed of your players.

Our second half of the year was garbage. Our first quarters were garbage all year. We lost 11 for a net 126 deficit. We kicked 5 goals once. He may well turn out to be a good coach but he isn't yet. Some signiifcant flaws he has been unable to address.
-
Our capitulations would never happen under Clarkson or Sheedy for that matter. They wouldn't stand for it. As for turnover, Rawlings has been there since 2012. We also have Chaplin - a career defender who is coaching our forward line. Turnover of assistants can be healthy to inject fresh ideas.
-
The evidence would suggest otherwise. He may well turn into one but he isn't yet.

You are re-writing history. Lewis came to us and said I want to play at Melbourne. No player of that calibre has come to melbourne in 25 years. It was a coup that he wanted to come to us. He has added to some steel and composure to our side. We didn't 'recruit' him per se to become a match winner for us. You are over egging the pud there.
-
I heard David King tonight. Melbourne were last for conversions inside 50 over the last 6 weeks. Also were the most pressured team. I take that to mean the comp has worked Melbourne out. You put pressure on them and they overuse the ball and turn it over. The coaches have a lot to answer for IMO. Didn't get the players 'up'. Couldn't get their game plan happening when we had our best team for the year on the park. They haven't built a game plan that can withstand finals type pressure. That is a major flaw. Goodwin has escaped scrutiny because he is a first year coach but there are real danger signs fo us.
-
I'd back the footy dept to work that out. Their track record is pretty good. Tyson's value to us plummets if he keeps turing it over. It's like having James Magner. Couldn't run both ways, was not damaging and was 'uncoachable'. Or Shane Valenti. Number of possessions is not the be all and end all. Its what you do with them and how you defend. And how long you can do it for. We know exactly what Tyson's upside is and we won't improve as a side with him in it. On the weekend all 6 frst quarter collingwood goals came from turnovers. It wouldn't have mattered if tyson had 25 possessions in the first quarter. Tyson turned it over twice in the first 3 mins. Your strategy of bird in the hand is totally flawed.
-
Just saw the presser with Goodwin. My God its pathetic. His joking his way through it. No friggin concept of the fate that awaited. No anger, no emotion whatsoever. CLearly the players felt that there wasn't anything on the line, the way the started. What a mammoth failure of the coaching staff to get this group prepared for a season defining game.
-
You said Tyson was a work horse right? Then say he can't be expected to have a tank? We got Hibberd for pick 29. Mid second round. Second rounders can be worth a lot if used well
-
Because the back six are working so well............
-
Same as Brent Prismall. A lot here were pretty unhappy when he wouldn't come to the Dees
-
No tank, can't hit targets. You think he's a work horse? Not fit for purpose.
-
Apparently we handball too much
-
Also has no tank. His last quarters are terrible
