  1. That was a very wasteful quarter from Casey which was kicking to what appeared to be the scoring end. After conceding the first goal, Casey was in control of the play for most of the quarter but had a lot of trouble converting with Danny Hughes the main offender. Hughes was lively and took several marks but his 1.3 for the quarter should have been at least 3.1 and Casey should be much further in front on general play. The other goalkicker is ruckman Tim Mohr.
  2. 1 Kyle Matthews © 2 Beau Vernon 5 Michael Stockdale 6 Peter Faulks 9 Matt Moore 11 James Wall (VC) 14 Evan Panozza 15 Tim Mohr 17 Ryan Mcgough 22 Ben Macreadie 31 Alex Silvagni (VC) 46 James Strauss 50 Simon Buckley 52 Mark Jamar 54 Neville Jetta 56 Daniel Bell 58 Danny Hughes 60 Jack Watts 66 Jordie Mckenzie 69 Rohan Bail 70 Michael Newton 78 Tom Mcnamara Meanwhile, in the reserves Box Hill gave Casey a flogging. Casey 12.6.78 to Box Hill 23.14.152 Healey and Spencer best of the Melbourne players. Zomer struggled early in defence but was good when moved to attack. Liam Jurrah was quiet but what he did, he did well.
  3. Been informed by the club that Strauss appealed and had the suspension overturned.
  4. Last I heard, Strauss was going to miss due to suspension.
  5. Watts is not available this week because it's been decided that he's playing for Brighton Grammar on Saturday. Strauss was rubbed out for one week by the VFL Tribunal: Won't play this weekend (bye) or the following week.
  6. The upshot of the three quarter time activity at Coburg is that the VFL has come down hard on Casey Scorpions and Coburg Tigers by handing both clubs an $800 fine for their involvement in what it called "Saturday afternoon's massive melee". The melee, which was described by Coburg's star inclusion Ben Cousins as "a good old-fashioned dust-up" during his Monday morning segment on Nova 100 FM has infuriated league bosses, due to the near-inclusion of crowd involvement and the fact the melee was broadcast on ABC TV. AFL Victoria Football Operations Manager John Hook said the behaviour from both clubs was completely unacceptable. See also Pay up for play-up
  7. Nothing in it as far as I was concerned but in these days when you get done in for accidental contact, you never know what the outcome might be. About 171 - 172 cm. The height factor probably had an influence on him not being drafted because he was a prolific ball getter at TAC Cup level. And finally, Peter German's report.
  8. Another good win away from home for the Scorpions 17.13.115 to Coburg's 11.7.73. A good effort against a team loaded with AFL players. Casey Scorpions 1.1.7 7.6.48 11.11.77 17.13.115 Coburg Tigers 2.2.14 7.4.46 7.6.48 11.7.73 The club has a bye next week but should be in the top eight at the end of this round and remember, they've only played one home game to date. Now I'm looking forward to that long, long drive back to Cranny. It's a good thing I've had a set of Hankook tyres installed on the wagon.
  9. Casey Scorps 11.11.77 to Coburg 7.6.48 - some good signs from Casey who are combining well but it ain't over till its over!
  10. Casey by 2 points at half time. Juice with 3, Watts 2. Player numbers: 48. CHENEY, Kyle 56. BELL, Daniel 57. VALENTI, Shane 58. HUGHES, Daniel ® 60. WATTS, Jack 64. GRIMES, Jack 66. 11. Coburg 2.2.14 to Casey 1.1.7 at quarter time. Casey 1.1.7 Reserves won by 2 points with James Strauss and Rhys Healey among the best. Strauss was reporterd for charging Coburg's D. 13. Grimes did end up playing a fair game in the conditions. Robbo was easily the best of the Demons. A certainty to play next week. Frankston 0.0 5.6 6.6 8.9 (57) Casey Scorpions 5.3 5.3 11.9 14.12 (96) GOALS: Frankston: Lourey 2 Dickson 2 Berry 2 Magner Pollard Casey Scorpions: Robertson 5 Silvagni 3 Hughes 2 McNamara Wall WONAEAMIRRI Vernon BEST: Frankston: Ablett Casboult Baguley Lombardozzi Dickson Ongarello Casey Scorpions: Matthews Wall Robertson Valenti Silvagni Stockdale REPORTED PLAYERS: Frankston: Nil Casey Scorpions: Nil
  14. Hughes goal and it's all over CS 14.12 to 8.9
  15. Robbo's been great giving the team the impetus with a goal against the wind early in the last qtr.
  16. Robbo just booted a magnificent goal after the Dolphons kicked the first score against the wind - a goal. Casey 11.9.75 to Frankston 6.6.42 at three quarter time. Goals Robertson 4 Silvagni 3 Hughes McNamara Wanaeamirri Wall It's anyone's game but that Frankston goal against the wind could be crucial.
  17. Half Time and Casey were scoreless that quarter while Frankston piled on 5 goals 6 behinds to lead by 3 points. It's well nigh on impossible to score against the wind which is blowing straight off Port Phillip Bay. The game's a shocker too! Off to the canteen to see if the hot dogs are better than the standard of football.
  18. Watts didn't kick a goal. He played away from goals and did well. Rohan Bail played for the ressies and he was named their best. Zomer also played in that game and did well kicking 2 goals. In the main game, it's quarter time and Casey kicking with the wind kicked 5.3.33 to 0.0.0 (Robbo 3, Hughes, Silvagni 1). We'll have a better indication by half time because it'sblowing a gale straight down the ground to the Young Street end where Casey was kicking in the first term.
  19. Addam Maric and Jake Spencer both are out. Players in for Casey include Bell, Cheney, Hughes and Wonaeamirri.
  20. First blood for the Casey/Melbourne alignment with Casey Reserves winning 8.12.60 to Frankston 4.7.31. Conditions are deplorable and I'll have to restrict my reports to save the iphone which is in danger of blowing up.
  21. Particularly nasty weather down at Frankston where the visitors lead the ressies game by six goals but the Dolphins are coming home with the tide and a strong westerly gale force wind.
  22. No appearance this week from Sam Blease. Hopefully, next week. Will try to find out what's happening with Liam Jurrah, perhaps Rude Boy can help? Also next week's game against Coburg at Coburg is the televised game on ABC.
  23. Port hold on to win by win by 4 points but it was a much improved effort on last week for the home side. Casey has played the two teams which most pundits believe will be the competition leaders this season. having gotten them out of the way, the Scorps have another tough assignment against Frankston next week but hopefully, a few more Demon listed players will be coming back from injury to strengthen the team further. Casey Scorpions 0.3 1.7 5.11 9.13 (67) Port Melbourne 2.4 4.5 7.9 10.11 (71) GOALS: Casey Scorpions: Robertson 3 Maric 2 Grimes Moore McGough Jurrah Port Melbourne: Bonaddio 3 Robbins 2 Mullins Dillon Raymond Burstin Smith BEST: Casey Scorpions: Valenti Wall Silvagni Spencer Panozza Robertson Port Melbourne: McGrath Pleming Smith Brewer Dalton Bonaddio REPORTED PLAYERS: Casey Scorpions: B.
