  9. Brendon Fevola kicked a bag of 10 goals in a best on ground for his local club, Narre Warren's yesterday. Fevola can go back to his local team whenever his VFL club has a bye.
  10. In a real boilover the Casey Scorpions Reserves win against Port Melbourne at Port. 11. Earlier this season Casey Ressies played Port at TEAC Oval and were comprehensively thrashed with a team containing a handful of MFC players and Brendon Fevola (it was his comeback game). Today, there are no AFL players in the team and Casey lead at half time. Casey Scorpions 5.4.34 Port Melbourne 4.8.32
  12. The Casey Reserves have the tough assignment of taking on the strong Borough side at TEAC Oval. 13. The Casey Scorpions Senior side has a bye this weekend but the Ressies will saddle up against Port Melbourne on Saturday. I hope to be able to bring you the team later this evening. There's a chance that Danny Nicholls who was the club's top recruit last year but hasn't played so far this year might return for his first game. We might see a Demon or two so please stand by.
  14. Thought I'd add this report from Casey coach Brad Gotch for some extra perspective. Casey Player Review • Sam Blease - yes there was that clanger but when you're getting the ball that many times, there's going to be the odd glitch. All in all, a very good game from Sam and he's been well rewarded with emergency status for the Demons this week. There's only one way to go from there and it's up. • Michael Evans - Gotch makes a good point. Pickles has had a few weeks at AFL level but I think he's been the Sub a couple of times in that stint and I'm sure that it will hold him in good stead. In the short term however, it's obviously interrupted his rhythm a little. • I wasn't aware about Dunn not making it to the ground so late. Another disruption and yes, he was pretty good at the end. • Again, with Tom McDonald, I didn't know he wasn't all that well before the game. Perhaps he shouldn't have played at all in those circumstances. Casey has its third bye for the season and has been a little off the pace recently. Losing to Coburg has put it right under the pump as far as top four is concerned but the week's rest will be a bit of a tonic for some of the players. Hopefully, with players returning from injury (both Melbourne and Casey players), the team will gather strength in the second half of the season.
  15. Yes. I and others have been critical of how he plays when he hasn't got the ball. I felt that he on Sunday he worked a lot harder and used his talents in an all round manner. This, combined with the fact that he was in a team that was under the pump for most of the last half and stood out, suggests that the penny may have dropped. Perhaps, it's his friendship with Tom Scully that is starting to pay dividends and he's realising how hard you have to work to get into the elite class. Perhaps not next week, but we'll see him in the colours soon.
  16. It's now up. Hopefully, there will be an infusion of talent in the next fortnight as a number of injured players make their way back into the game.
  17. I'm working on my report on the MFC players. It was a difficult day to assess them but here are the stats:- Matthew Bate (11 kicks, 17 handballs, 5 marks, 2 goals) Sam Blease (20 kicks, 7 handballs, 8 marks) Robert Campbell (6 kicks, 7 handballs, 2 marks) Lucas Cook (4 kicks, 4 handballs, 2 marks) Troy Davis (7 kicks, 14 handballs, 5 marks) Lynden Dunn (13 kicks, 5 handballs, 4 marks, 1 goal) Michael Evans (12 kicks, 10 handballs, 5 marks) Cameron Johnston (7 kicks, 8 handballs, 3 marks) Addam Maric (12 kicks, 7 handballs, 3 marks) Tom McDonald (4 kicks, 3 handballs, 1 marks) Tom McNamara (7 kicks, 5 handballs, 3 marks) Matthew Warnock (15 kicks, 16 handballs, 9 marks)
  18. Tim Mohr has been the big improver of all of the Casey players this year. He's tall, moves well and has worked hard on his fitness after an injury interrupted 2010. James Wall has been at two AFL clubs already. Perhaps lacks a little in pace to play AFL while Stockers might be a bit short. I think Kyle Matthews might have made it at the right club but that nasty injury last year probably put paid to that prospect. His assailant appears in court next month I understand.
  19. It was a poor game by Casey with the two redheads Bater and Blease playing well but not well enough to earn a promotion although Blease got a lot of the ball. Matty Warnock worked hard in defence and got the ball a lot especially when the team was kicking into the wind. Lucas Cook had a poor game this week. Perhaps he was upset about his manager Marty Pask being KO'd playing for his suburban team yesterday? It was a bad day for tall forwards. Davis worked hard but did nothing outstanding, Maric and Dunn were just so so and McDonald was quiet. The midfield was beaten. It was a disappointing day for the Scorps who drop out of the top four and will probably be further out next week with their bye. Ironically, the injury to Gysberts which saw Nicholson get another chance at Melbourne robbed Casey of some much needed midfield drive which would have been very handy today.
  20. And Kudos to WJ who warned on here that this was a danger game for the Scorpions.
  21. It's all over and a win to Coburg by 10 points - a very disappointing result for the Scorpions who kicked only two goals after the half way mark of the second quarter. Casey Scorpions 3.7.25 6.7.43 7.12.54 8.14.62 Coburg Tigers 0.1.1 4.11.35 6.14.50 9.18.72 Goals Casey Scorpions Bate Mohr 2 Dunn Fevola Lees McGough Coburg Tigers Wheeler 3 Murphy 2 Jordan Lynch Morton White Best Casey Scorpions Mohr Bate Blease Warnock Wall Stockdale Coburg Tigers Gourdis Wheeler White Tuck Power Graham
  22. Coburg in front for the first time. Lead by 2 points. Momentum with Coburg. They're pumped - 26 minute mark.
  23. Coburg goals to bring it to within 5 points at the 18 minute mark.
