  1. Very much the normal wind affected game with Sandy scoring the first goal of the half and Matthew Bate responding for Casey. The Scorps are defending well into the strong breeze and if they keep this up they should take the game out.
  2. Half Time Casey Scorpions 1.4.10 4.6.30 Sandringham 4.1.25 4.4.28 Goalkickers Bate Blease McDonald Petterd Half time disposal stats leaders for Casey are James Wall (19), Sam Blease (18) and Matthew Warnock (14).
  3. Only four points in it after a goal to Ricky Petterd.
  4. Quarter Time Casey Scorpions 1.4.10 Sandringham 4.1.25
  5. Goal to Tom McDonald after a 50 metre penalty.
  6. Twenty-five minutes in - Sandy 3.1.19 to Casey 0.4.4.
  7. A strong north wind affected the reserves game and will have an influence on the main game. Sandy has plenty of Saints including early draft picks in their lineup. Scorps got up to win the Ressies by 26 points after being down at half time. A slashing third quarter saw them into the lead at the last break. A six goal last quarter saw them coast home. 18. Good to see Tom Scully warming up for his first game for the season even if it's for Casey and not Melbourne. If he's up to it he'll get more than the obligatory half a game that many get when returning from long term injury. In the ressies, the Seagulls ran away with it in the end. 19. Some changes to the Williamstown line up made necessay by the withdrawal from the Bulldogs of Ryan Hargrave and Brodie Moles due to injury. This means that Brian Lake and Lindsay Gilbee come out of today's Seagulls' team. In the reserves Williamstown leads 10.9.69 to Casey Scorpions 8.1.49 at half time.

  21. And Peter German wouldn't be [censored] himself. He's a cool customer.
  22. I must add that the VFL reserves fixture is an absolute nightmare to work out. The Casey Scorpions have already had one bye earlier in the season and have a bye this week and again next week. That's three byes in their first eight rounds. They played their first and only home game for the season a fortnight ago when they beat Frankston by over 100 points. Their next two games after the byes are away from home so they don't play their second home game for the year until the mid-point of the season in round 11. The reserves have played five games this year, two of them against the Northern Bullants and, of course, both of them have been away games. Even in tomorrow's practice game against Cranbourne at Casey Fields there's no home ground advantage because the two clubs share the venue although there has been some controversy locally about that because the powers that be want the Cranbourne team to play on ovals other than the main ground. I don't want to buy into that particular issue but it's good to see the two clubs co-operating in holding this game and I wish that there was more of it in the area. The two byes in a row would have severely hampered the return of players coming back from injury like Jordie McKenzie, Robert Campbell and youngsters Troy Davis and Cameron Johnston so it's good to have a local club like Cranbourne coming in to lend support. Over the years of VFL alignments with both Sandringham and Casey, many players began their rehabilitation from injuries in the reserves sides and rather than dump alignments, we will be better off strengthening the local areas and teams in order to improve the standards of our lists and our support base.
