  1. At a coaches forum I attended in June CS stated that the MFC is likely to have the lowest supporter base of all Victorian Clubs within the next 10 years. It is an ageing supporter base and has a low number of young people coming through supporting the Club. Some say this Club is irrelevant and stands for very little. Unless we start winning games on a consistent basis and win games against top clubs this Club will struggle to survive and have any relevance in the future.
  2. At the pre-game funtion in Darwin Jade Rawlings and Leigh Brown told us that to be a premiership contender we need another KP forward and mids.. Taggert spoke and said he would be ready to go for th start of pre-season training. Fitness staff were just being cautious.
  3. Jack Billings looked like he could be the best of all although he is under age and not eligible for this years draft. I was very impressed with the SA trio in Grundy, Colqhoun and McDonough. The last two could be available between picks 15 and 40.
  4. Rockliff was training with us prior to the PSD and rookie drafts. He has stated that MFC were going to rookie him. Picking Jurrah as there preferred choice in the PSD meant that Rockliff could only come to MFC via the rookie draft. It is my understanding that Aaaron Davey had a big say in the MFC selecting Jurrah.
  5. The contracts thread shows that he is out of contract this year. Therefore we are unlikely to get anything for him.
  6. If you had seen him yesterday at Casey you would do a double flush.
  7. Maybe let the Commission decide the draft order and any priority picks at the end of each season. They could take int account the performance of clubs over a number of years rather than just one year. For instance when Collingwood finished top one year they finished last the following year. The Commission may then decide not to give them the first draft pick in that year because of good performances in past years.
  8. Jeff played 118 games for MFC and 131 for Freo. They would be eligible for father/son at both clubs.
  9. Although VFL radio on the VFL Sporting Pulse website has not been updated it is likely that the game could be on Aussie digital (SEN2) if you have a digital radio or you can listen live on the web.
  10. Sellar: Can't kick for nuts. Strauss is supposed to be the best kick in the team but only hanballs into trouble. Trengove only handballs into trouble, he doesn't kick
  11. Sheahan reminds me of the Wakelin brothers. Reads the play well and attacking off half back. As B&F of Geelong Falcons the commentators could not believe he was not picked in the ND.
  12. Teams that don't make the finals have nearly 7 months to wait before the proper season starts. I love my footy, so as part of pre-season I would like some early practice matches against other teams instead of waiting to February. Even a mini round robin comp for 2-3 weeks before xmas (after the draft) would be great to wet the appetite and give supporters, clubs and players a more interesting pre-season.
  13. Agree. I haven't see anyting in Caddy that really excites me. He doesn't impose himself enough on a game. He's not overly quick, has few tricks and is not a high possession gatherer. Didn't do much last night against the blues. Did nothing aginst us. We need speed speed and footballers with smarts. i.e Harvery Bennell.
  14. He makes me nervous when the ball goes his way. Just like Warnock did. He is not a good contested mark and drops his fair share of uncontested marks. If he could mark like Harry Taylor he would have a long term career at MFC. Sadly, I can't see him being anymore than a bit player.
  15. A player told me recently that he thought we recruited poorly last year and cited Magner and Couch as examples. He said it's all very well to have contested footy but we need speedy outside mids because we already have Jones, Jordie, and Moloney. I asked two other recently drafted players whether the Club as a matter of practice asks them or other teammates whether they know of any players that the Club should keep an eye on(TAC, suburban leagues etc). I only asked them this because I would have thought that with 40+ players on the list with some recently playing TAC Cup they may well provide some knowledge or insight into possible future draftees. The answer was: No they haven't asked us. I'm not saying that the Club hasn't already got all bases covered when it comes to recruiting, but you just never know what a player knows or has heard.
  16. I'm sure that's why JMac was delisted because there were very few players out of contract. We had to free up the list to be active in the National Draft. Very poor list management during that period.
  17. No point in keeping experienced players that are no good. Trade while they have some currency.
  18. Not quick. Ben Kennedy or Sam Mayes might be considered. From Bigfooty Mock Draft 13. Melbourne (compensation pick) - Oliver Wines (Midfielder) Height: 185cm Weight: 83kg Club: Bendigo Pioneers Range: 5-20 Description: Wines would challenge Viney for the title of best inside midfielder in this draft. He's a fair bit bigger than Viney and isn't afraid to crash in with his big frame. Has pretty good endurance so can run all day but isn't overly quick. He's a decent kick without being anything special and at Champs it would have been nice to see him convert a bit more of his oportunities in front of goal.He could be a viable option for GC if they really want a pure ball winner but I think they'll just go best available and pick inside mids later. 4. Melbourne (compensation pick) - Sam Mayes (Midfielder/Forward) Height: 187cm Weight: 78kg Club: North Adelaide Range: 4-12 Description: I may be alone here but IMO Mayes will become the best player in this draft. Absolutely love the way he goes about his footy. He has one of, if not the very best kick in this draft pool. Top notch kick. Has a lot of versatility with his development beginning as a lead-up forward where he dominated at champs last year. This year has turned into a more full-time midfielder. Has copped some heavy defensive attention this year so is very highly rated. Last year playing forward he had the ability to get great separation from his defender and whilst I haven't really seen him use this burst as a midfielder as much he always seems to have an eternity. I think he compares pretty favorably to Pendlebury in this regard. 7. Port Adelaide - Ben Kennedy (Midfielder/Forward) Height: 174cm Weight: 76kg Club: Glenelg Range: 6-25 Description: Kennedy is a lightning quick midfielder/small forward. Is very much capable of doing both to a very high level. Can rack up a huge number of possession through the midfield or kick bags of goals in the forward line. If he was bigger would be a certain top 10 IMO and is still a chance to go there. By all accounts was very close to being selected by Adelaide with the mini-draft pick last year so that gives an idea of where he is at. One thing I really like about him for a guy who has the assets he does is he has a touch of arrogance. (Maybe more than a touch) Just has that I’m going to be able to burn you off look in his eyes when he sizes his opponent up.
  19. Both Moloney and Davey are on the way down not on the way up. Time to move on instead of sooking because they don't like Neelds methods. Davey was pathetic during pre-season training. Moloney has had his time. Have some balls MFC, move them both on and they can takes Morton, Bennell, Bate, Pettard, Sellar, Jetta and Sylvia with them. Move on
  20. [quote name='olisik' timestamp='1344911785' h Toumpas, Grundy, Kennedy, (Plowman, Colquhoun (SA) or Vlastiun) and Viney. Then Mathew McDonough (SA).
  21. Pretty much agree, he doesn't get enough of the ball for me. Has averaged 12 possessions a game each year with 3 tackles. His career high was in his first year with 24 disposals against Carlton. Doesn't take a leadership role and plays like a bit player with the occassional cameo. Too date he is just another Melbourne player that leaves too much to too few.
  22. At a pre-match function in Darwin before the Port game I asked Jade Rawlings and Leigh Brown (who were addressing the Melbourne faithful) what the Club needed to be a premiership contender. Answer: Another key forward and midfielders. That's it folks. No backs, no rucks just another forward and mids.
  23. Another factor that could emerge is the possibiity of winning 2 more games i.e. GWS and either Adelaide or Freo. The Western Bulldogs could easily lose all of their remaining games against the tigers, swans, cats and Lions. That would leave us on equal points and possibly a higher percentage. They could then nominate JV. I will be barracking for the Bulldogs this week. If the Dogs lose this week I just wonder if the Club would be too upset about losing to GWS the following week.
  24. I really hope Cook makes it but I don't think he has the grunt, that steely resolve, the aggression, the speed and a big enough tank needed for AFL at this stage. I noticed that he really struggled at pre-season particularly in the running drills. Not to say he can't improve in these areas. Although not really relevant, he is the only player selected in the top 20 of the 2010 draft not to have played a game. He and Jed Lamb from Sydney are the only players not to have played a game in the first 30 players selected.
